VARSITY INSIDER - April 14th Edition

Maryland Varsity is bringing readers an in-depth recruiting look with the
Varsity Insider. Find out what colleges are after Brandon Battle, Amaru
Major, Dwayne Haskins Jr., Juwuan Briscoe, and Ronje Wright now!

......................................................................................................

Bullis School quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr.

SMU offer: “My quarterback coach, Coach Norville, sent my highlight tape to
SMU and they were the first one to offer me. He had me call Coach Jones and he
told me they offered me.”

First thoughts: “It was a great feeling and a
relied. When I got it, it made me feel grateful but also wanted me to continue
working to get more.”

Arizona State offer: “My friend, Jalen Strong,
plays receiver there. My quarterback coach sent tape to them and they were
intrigued. Jalen went and talked to Coach Norvell about me. Coach Norville told
me to call Coach Norbell and he told me there was an offer over the phone.”

Surprised by the offers: “I was a little surprised and shocked to get the
two offers in that amount of time. It was also good because it shows how much
hard work I’ve been doing.”

His college spot: “They offered me as a
quarterback.”

Others: “Boston College, West Virginia, Georgia, Clemson,
LSU, and Maryland.”

Close to offering: “Boston College is really close
once the year is over with. West Virginia is also close but I’m not sure about
anyone else.”

Visits: “I’m going to the West Virginia spring game on
Saturday and then the Maryland spring game.”

A final decision: “I’d like
to make it going into my senior year in the spring time.”

A favorite:
“There are no favorites right now. I’m interested in everyone that is interested
in me.”

......................................................................................................

Thomas Stone athlete Juwuan Briscoe

His newest offer:
“Toledo sent me a message but I didn’t get the
information until my coach told me. The coach added me on twitter and told me he
watched my film. They offered on the spot.”

Hearing a coach offer on the
spot:
“It feels great in knowing that I am good enough to get offered on the
spot.”

What he knows about Toledo:
“Nothing as far as it being in
Ohio. I’m starting to look into it more.”

Other new schools in the
picture:
“Rutgers came in the picture. I am supposed to go to a junior day
this Saturday.”

What he wants to get out of the trip:
“I just want to
gain a lot more knowledge of the coaching staff and the campus. I really want to
talk to their players and get more information about how things are from their
end.”

Close to offering:
“I think Towson is close to offering. I think
they want me to compete at their camp. Coach John called me and said he watched
my film and they love it. He has been talking to me ever since.”

A final
decision:
“I think it will be after my upcoming senior season.”

College visits:
“I was supposed to head to NC State. I was going to go there
when I have a chance.”

......................................................................................................

North Point quarterback Brandon Battle

Camps:“Right now I am definitely doing to the University of Maryland camp,
the University of Toledo, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I
am also looking at making a trip to Cornell this summer.”

Recruiting:
“Currently the schools I am hearing from the most are the University of North
Carolina, Toledo, Cornell, and Maryland.”

Offers: “At this point, most of
the schools want me to throw in person. They will make a final decision. That is
when the summer camps come into play,”

College visits: “A couple of weeks
ago I went to North Carolina for their junior day. The week after that I went to
Maryland for their junior day. This pasts Saturday I went to Princeton for their
junior day. I’ve been making a lot of visits to different schools.”

The
visits: “Overall I really liked North Carolina. The coaching staff and the
campus felt good to me. That was the best one I’ve been to but I enjoyed myself
at all three of them.”

A favorite college growing up: “I didn’t really
pick a favorite. I just watched different schools and players so I didn’t have a
favorite.”

......................................................................................................

Surrattsville running back Amaru Major

Camps: “I am still undecided about that. I want to go to Florida State and
Maryland but other than that I have no idea.”

Recruiting: “Auburn sent me
a couple of letters, Nebraska, ODU, Maryland, Syracuse Northwestern, Towson, and
Morgan State. Those are the ones that have been reaching out to me.”

College visits: “This Saturday I had a visit to Morgan State. Towson wants me to
visit and I’ll be attending one of their camps. Maryland wants me to come to one
of their camps too.”

The Morgan State visit: “It went good. They showed
me the school and how the coaching staff works. They showed me how they have it
with their running backs. It went good and I liked it.”

......................................................................................................

Towson running back Ronje Wright

Camps: “I will most likely go to Boston College and Maryland for camps. I
want to try and do my best to get myself a scholarship offer.”

Recruiting: “James Madison, North Carolina State, and Toledo are the biggest
three right now.”

Visits: “Not yet but I think this Saturday I’m going to
go to JMU for their spring football game.”

Scholarship talk: “JMU has.
They said they are thinking about offering me and Toledo has said that too.”

A favorite: “No, not really.”

| 2016
Offers from Old Dominion, Virginia, and Virginia Tech showcase the
potential of Burrell. He has learned from one of the top programs in the
state.

Defensive Back | 2015
Richardson still only holds a scholarship offer from
the coaches at Georgia Tech but has been training specifically for events like
this. That focus may help him have a day to remember.

Rivals Camp Series Preview - The In-State Offensive Linemen

The Offensive Linemen! The Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour is
headed to St. John's on Sunday. Maryland Varsity breaks down the in-state
offensive linemen and who to keep an eye out for now!

Note: This may
not be a complete list of the in-state athletes in-attendance.

The Names
Barnabas Baning | St. Mary's Ryken | Offensive Lineman | 2015

Cam Spence | Gilman | Offensive Lineman | 2017
David Robbins | Glenelg |
Offensive Lineman | 2015
Isaiah Prince | Roosevelt | Offensive Lineman | 2015

Jack Shugars | Archbishop Spalding | Offensive Lineman | 2015
Matthew Hunt |
St. Mary's Ryken | Offensive Line | 2016
Patrick Allen | Franklin | Offensive
Line | 2015
Stephen Spanellis | Gilman | Offensive Line | 2016

Overview:
The numbers may not be huge overall but having top tier blockers
will make for a great camp. They will be challenged in the 1-on-1s against
what may be the deepest in-state position at the camp along the defensive line.

The Offers
Barnabas Baning | St. Mary's Ryken | Offensive Lineman |
2015
David Robbins | Glenelg | Offensive Lineman | 2015
Isaiah Prince |
Roosevelt | Offensive Lineman | 2015
Patrick Allen | Franklin | Offensive
Line | 2015
All four of these linemen have played their way into scholarship
offers. Three of these athletes have seen national powerhouses throw
scholarship offers into the ring as well.

The Future
Matthew
Hunt | St. Mary's Ryken | Offensive Line | 2016
St. Mary's Ryken continues to
see their athletes add scholarship offers by the day seemingly and Hunt hopes to
be the next within the Class of 2016.

Give the man some credit
David
Robbins | Glenelg | Offensive Lineman | 2015
Robbins recently got recruiting
out of the way by committing to Florida State. He doesn't have to come to
this camp as there is nothing to prove outside of national rankings and showing
Seminole fans what they will be getting in the future.

Watch out
for
Isaiah Prince | Roosevelt | Offensive Lineman | 2015
Patrick Allen |
Franklin | Offensive Line | 2015
These two uncommitted are among the most
sought after linemen in the country. They will be in the race for MVP
honors.

Rivals Camp Series Preview - The In-State Defensive Linemen

The Defensive Linemen! The Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour
is headed to St. John's on Sunday. Maryland Varsity breaks down the
in-state defensive linemen and who to keep an eye out for now!

Note:
This may not be a complete list of the in-state athletes in-attendance.

The Names
Adam McLean | Quince Orchard | Defensive End | 2015
Darius
Fullwood | Good Counsel | Defensive End | 2015
DeAndre Kelly | DeMatha |
Defensive End | 2015
Ellison Jordan | Gilman | Defensive Lineman | 2016

Eric Kareem Jr. | North Point | Defensive Tackle | 2015
Izon Pulley | Good
Counsel | Defensive End | 2016
Jason Rogers | DeMatha | Defensive End | 2015

Jonathan Holland | Bullis School Defensive End | 2015
Keiron Howard | Potomac
| Defensive Line | 2015
Mufu Taiwo | McDonogh | Defensive End | 2015

Ron'Dell Carter | Long Reach | Defensive Lineman | 2015
Shane Simmons |
DeMatha | Defensive End | 2016

Overview:
Stacked would be an
understatement here. There are seven in-state defensive linemen who are
expected to attend the camp that hold Division I scholarship. These offers
are not from smaller schools either. They are from some of the best
programs in the county.

The Offers
Adam McLean | Quince Orchard
| Defensive End | 2015
Darius Fullwood | Good Counsel | Defensive End | 2015

Ellison Jordan | Gilman | Defensive Lineman | 2016
Jonathan Holland | Bullis
School Defensive End | 2015
Keiron Howard | Potomac | Defensive Line | 2015

Ron'Dell Carter | Long Reach | Defensive Lineman | 2015
Shane Simmons |
DeMatha | Defensive End | 2016
Fullwood and McLean headline this group within
the juniors but Simmons and Jordan could really come on strong. They may
be younger but they certainly play at an elite level.

The Future

Shane Simmons | DeMatha | Defensive End | 2016
Simmons is not the biggest
linemen around but this sophomore can flat out play. Added weight and
strength will only increase his dominance going forward.

Give
these men some credit
Adam McLean | Quince Orchard | Defensive End | 2015

Darius Fullwood | Good Counsel | Defensive End | 2015
With offers from
powerhouse schools like Alabama and others, these two are not playing for much
more than pride. They are working to prove their worth both locally and
nationally within the rankings.

Watch out for
Ron'Dell Carter |
Long Reach | Defensive Lineman | 2015
Carter is the most underrated of the
offer group. He will use that to his advantage to really showcase his
skills against offensive linemen trying to slow him down.

Steven Smothers | Franklin | Wide Receiver | 2016
Tino Ellis | DeMatha | Wide
Receiver | 2016
Trevon Diggs | Wootton | Wide Receiver | 2016

Overview:
With some of the top in-state wide outs both in 2015 and 2016, the
defensive backs will have their hands full with this elite group. Whoever
takes home the MVP honor at wide receiver is going to earn it.

The Offers
Jelani Roberts | Gilman | Wide Receiver | 2015
Jordan
Adams | Franklin | Wide Receiver | 2015
Lawrence Cager | Calvert Hall | Wide
Receiver | 2015
Myles Robinson | Good Counsel | Wide Receiver | 2015

Steven Smothers | Franklin | Wide Receiver | 2016
Tino Ellis | DeMatha | Wide
Receiver | 2016
Trevon Diggs | Wootton | Wide Receiver | 2016
Seven
athletes hold scholarship offers from Division I schools and many of these
players have more than one.

The Future
Steven Smothers |
Franklin | Wide Receiver | 2016
Tino Ellis | DeMatha | Wide Receiver | 2016

Trevon Diggs | Wootton | Wide Receiver | 2016
This trio of sophomores put up
some sizable numbers last fall on the gridiron. Their speed, size, and
maturity helped that stand out among their peers.

The Future
without an offer
Camari Murray | Bishop McNamara | Wide Receiver 2016

Murray dominated last fall for his team and could really continue to prove why
he is a scholarship worthy player with a huge performance on Sunday.

Watch out for
Myles Robinson | Good Counsel | Wide Receiver | 2015

Robinson's big showing in the winter at combines and camps helped him land
offers from Michigan State and Virginia. Showcasing those same skills here
could really improve his recruiting stock.

Rivals Camp Series Preview - The In-State Linebackers

The Linebackers! The Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour is
headed to St. John's on Sunday. Maryland Varsity breaks down the in-state
linebackers and who to keep an eye out for now!

Note: This may not be
a complete list of the in-state athletes in-attendance.

The Names
Drew Yarborough | Thomas Jefferson | Linebacker | 2015
Isiah
Ryans | Friendly | Linebacker | 2015
Keith Simms | Landon | Linebacker | 2016

Marcus Leggett | Surrattsville | Linebacker | 2015

Overview:
Just due
to sheer numbers, the linebacker position will not come in with the hype as a
number of other positions. These players are talented but the chip that
they come in with could help them excel.

The Offers
None
All
four players are battling for a scholarship but none have it at this point.

The Future
Keith Simms | Landon | Linebacker | 2016
Great size and
the ability to play multiple spots is why Simms could potentially be a very
sought after college recruit.

The Hybrid
Isiah Ryans | Friendly
| Linebacker | 2015
Ryans spent time at multiple spots as a junior and that
versatility could help him in drills on Sunday.

Both Class of 2015
rushers have reported multiple Division I offers. They will be at the head
of the class for this group.

The Future
Jonathan Lee | Good Counsel |
Running Back | 2016
Jordan Edwards | DeMatha | Running Back | 2016
Will
these two be the future of WCAC elite running backs? Both are putting in
the time to dominate and hope that the hard work pays off in a big way.

The Darkhorse
Amaru Major | Surrattsville | Running Back | 2015

Major may not have the rep as other top juniors around the state but he
dominated last fall for Surrattsville. He really could make a name for
himself here.

Rivals Camp Series Preview - The In-State Quarterbacks

The Quarterbacks! The Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour is
headed to St. John's High School on Sunday. Maryland Varsity breaks down
the in-state quarterbacks and who to keep an eye out for now!

Note: This may not be a complete list of the in-state athletes
in-attendance.

The Names
Beau English | DeMatha |
Quarterback | 2017
Brandon Battle | North Point | Quarterback | 2015

DeJuan Ellis | Bishop O'Connell | Quarterback | 2018
Dwayne Haskins | Bullis
School | Quarterback | 2016
Kasim Hill | Gilman | Quarterback | 2017

Ramar Williams | Bishop McNamara | Quarterback | 2016
Robert Harris, III |
Surrattsville | Quarterback | 2015

The Offers
Dwayne Haskins of Bullis
School has recently added offers from the coaches at SMU and Arizona State. A
big showing here would really help his stock nationally.

The Future

DeJuan Ellis | Bishop O'Connell | Quarterback | 2018
Yes, he may not be a
future Maryland prep player but this eighth grader has received national
headlines. A strong showing here will prove why.
Beau English | DeMatha |
Quarterback | 2017
Could he be a three year starter for DeMatha? Time will
tell here.

The Darkhorse
Brandon Battle | North Point | Quarterback |
2015
Battle has been consistently named by foes as the top returning player
in their conference for the 2014 season. At 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, he has a big
frame and can make plays.

Don't forget about
Ramar Williams | Bishop
McNamara | Quarterback | 2016
2,000 plus passing yards as a sophomore is why
Williams is one to keep a close eye on within the Class of 2016.

Maddox, Barnabas Baning, Dwayne Haskins Jr., Isiah Ryans, and Cortrelle Simpson now!

......................................................................................................

St. Mary Ryken offensive lineman Barnabas Baning

Camps: “I know I’m going to the Rivals camp in DC hopefully. I might go to a
couple of college camps with my quarterback at places like Clemson and Maryland.
I’m going to decide on that later.”

Recruiting: “I have received full
offers from Georgia State, Old Dominion, James Madison, and Toledo. I’m planning
on taking college visits soon. I’ve been talking to Boston College, NC State,
Penn State, and also Marshall.”

The offers: “It is really good and lets
me know that the hard work is paying off. I still have to keep working and
hopefully get more. The hard work is starting to pay off.”

Schools close
to offering: “I feel confident that Marshall might offer soon and Boston College
might. If I have a good camp at Penn State, I might leave with an offer.”

A favorite: “Honestly, no. I feel my recruiting is just starting and I am
open to all of the schools honestly.”

......................................................................................................

Lacking athlete Cortrelle Simpson

Recruiting: “I know there has been some stuff from Toledo, Ann Arbor, Old
Dominion, and Temple.”

College visits: “Not yet.”

visits: “I think my coach said we are going to make some. I think we are going
to visit Toledo.”

A favorite college growing up: “Maryland.”

......................................................................................................

Gilman running back Dorian Maddox

Camps: “I’m pretty sure I’ll do some. I just don’t know which specific ones
I’ll be at.”

Recruiting: “I got some interest from Maryland. I have
received questionnaires from Nebraska, NC State, Northwestern, Penn State,
Richmond, Rutgers, Texas A&M, Navy, and I received my first offer from the
University of Charlotte.”

The first thoughts of the offer: “I was very
excited. It just made me want to work harder to get even more.”

Charlotte: “They seem like a pretty good school. I haven't done much research on
them yet but they seem good. They are Division I and they have interest in me.”

Visits: “I was at the Maryland junior day. So far that has been the only one
I’ve been able to do.”

Upcoming trips: “Not that I know of.”

The
Maryland visit: “I really liked what I saw. Everything down there is really
cool.”

A favorite college growing up: “Not really.”

......................................................................................................

Bullis School quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr.

college camps, I’ll be going to Georgia, Clemson, West Virginia, Boston College,
LSU, and North Carolina. That is it so far.”

talking to Georgia, Boston College, West Virginia, Clemson, and LSU. All of
those coaches have said that if I perform well at their camps they’ll offer me

junior day at Kent State last week.”

The Kent State trip: “It went well.
They broke it down for us on how many people they are offering from my class.
For me, they don’t know what position they want me to play. It is between wide
receiver and linebacker.”

A position preference: “I feel more comfortable
playing wide receiver. I am very confident that no one will stop me when I’m
running routes.”

Recruiting: “Kent State is showing me the most
attention. William and Mary invited me to a junior day. They told me that if I
can get a 480 verbal and maintain my GPA, I will get an offer. Ohio University
is another one. That is all I can think of.”

......................................................................................................

St. Mary Ryken athlete Kyle Goddard

Camps: “I have two set in stone with the Nike Camp in DC and the Nike
football training camp. I will also be going to some one day college camps like
Maryland, Towson, and a few schools in North Carolina like Wake Forest, NC
State, and UNC.”

of days ago from the University of Nevada. I’ve also been talking to William and
Mary, Towson, and a couple of others.”

my coach. It was the end of the day so I had no idea it was coming. I talked to
their defensive coordinator and he switched me to the head coach. That is when
they offered.”

is paying off. I still have to keep doing what I’m doing and hopefully it’ll

“I got a couple of dream schools that I would probably commit to right away if
they offered. If they don’t offer, I’ll go to some camps and then try my best
throughout the season.”

Distance factoring in: “Not at all.”

Georgetown Prep lineman David Forney

Recruiting: “I’ve attended junior days at Maryland and UNC. I got a couple
more coming up to Princeton and Bucknell that I am looking forward to getting
to.”

The Maryland visit: “It was nice. The last time I had visited was
the spring game so this was a much smaller group. There were a lot less guys.”

The UNC visit: “UNC was great. The campus was great. I’ve been around
Maryland and Navy a couple of times so it was nice to see something different.”

A favorite growing up: “When I was younger, it was probably Notre Dame. That
was back when Brady Quinn was the quarterback.”

Offer talk: “They are
waiting to see me at their one day camps. They want to see how I move and how I
do in one-on-ones.”

......................................................................................................

Franklin lineman Evan Ostrow

Recruiting: “I’ve talked to Delaware, Fordham in New York, and Virginia Tech
a little bit.”

talked to their coaches. I thought it was great. I liked all the facilities and

school growing up: “My theory is that if a college is interested in me, I like
them. Whatever school likes me, I like them back.”

have a full schedule and it hurt a lot of guys not being able to only send out
three games for film. Now we have a full schedule this past year and it is
really hard. Our coach decided for some guys to reclassify and others to not. It

last year. We have a few guys coming in. Hopefully all of us will be able to

graduated about eight seniors so the nearly the whole team is coming back. We
have a lot of experience so it should be good.”
Calvert Hall athlete Bryan Marine

to be a leader and make sure I am all ready. Once I do that, I’ll help others
and make sure they know what they are doing.”
Gilman safety Robert Branch

“I think we’ll do well. I think we are
all working out and getting into the weight room. The comradery is going well.
We’ll have a really good season this year.”

strong team coming into the season.”

“We lost our seniors but I am excited to see what the younger guys can do.
We have a lot of talent and those younger guys are really hungry. I think we’ll
be pretty solid.”
Archbishop Spalding offensive lineman Jack Shugars

“We lose a lot of guys up front but we got guys ready to come back and replace
them. We don’t want to just focus on repeating. We want to focus on our first
game against Benedictine. After that game, we are looking for a good season like
last year. We don’t want to be a one and done type team.”
McDonogh defensive
back Kareem Montgomery

“We are just becoming stronger as a family and
coming together. We want to win more games. We want to become more of a team and
win. My goal is to become a better leader.”
“I’m not really sure honestly.”

“I think we’ll be pretty
good. We have a lot of young players that started last year. A lot of them are
leaders. If we keep working hard, it’ll be a very good season.”
Loyola
Blakefield linebacker Darren Seward

“I think we have a very good shot
this year. We have an extremely strong offensive line and good skill players
returning. We are losing a lot but I think we have a quarterback who will step
up. We are working hard and I expect it to be a really good year.”
Archbishop
Spalding lineman Alex Plotkin

“I think we have to keep improving. It
should be a pretty good season.”
Calvert Hall running back Damien Farmer

The toughest team they will face in the conference
“There are a lot of good teams. Every team is good so you really

“It will probably be Gilman again. We have
the same defense we did last year but we lost a couple of linemen on offense.”

the conference, of course it’d be McDonogh or Gilman. I think McDonogh is more
of a complete team at all positions while Gilman has a lot of great players.”

is going to be the same team, McDonogh. I think that is about it. They left a
bad taste in our mouths with the championship so I think we’ll be ready.”
Gilman safety Robert Branch

probably be our toughest game in the conference.”
Gilman defensive back Alonzo Mayo

“I think it’ll be McDonogh again. They were our toughest last year and they

year. They want to prove they are not a one championship team.”
Archbishop
Spalding offensive lineman Jack Shugars

“The conference was young last
and will be getting a lot better. Gilman is always one of the top teams. Mount
St. Joseph will be really good and so will St. Frances. Everyone is neck and

Mount St. Joseph running back Nevone McCrimmon

“Gilman and McDonogh are
always the best.”

always think of Gilman and McDonough but St. Frances will be really good. I
heard Mt. St. Joes has a strong team. Everyone will be good competition.”

good. Like every year, we have to be ready in every game.”
Calvert Hall

“Our defense is pretty much good so it is the offense. We have to
run the ball more and efficiently throw it more.”
McDonogh defensive back Eric Burrell

The toughest player they will face in the conference
“I would
say McDonogh’s linebacker, Wyatt Cook. He gave us the most problems last year
and he will be a senior this year.”
Gilman running back Dorian Maddox

“I’d have to say #42 from Gilman (Ellison Jordan). He was younger but he was a
beast.”
Archbishop Spalding offensive lineman Jack Shugars

would say Lawrence Cager and Jelani Roberts. With me being a quarterback, those
two guys are definitely good wide receivers.”
McDonogh defensive back Kareem
Montgomery

Mount St. Joseph running
back Nevone McCrimmon

“There are a lot of good players out there so
I can’t name one.”

MIAA B Quotes

On their team
“I just hope we can regroup from
last year. We are having a bunch of kids step up or come in as transfer. We have
a strong recruiting class and a new head coach this year.”
John Carroll linebacker Julian Meares

“I think we are looking good if we have the same attitude we have had the
past two years. We should have a good shot.”
St. Paul's offensive lineman
Garrett Mullin

“We have won it two years in a row and I am excited. I’d
like to go out my senior year with a championship. I think we have the team to
compete for that.”
St. Pauls quarterback Anthony Pino

“I think this
year will be really good. We worked out all the problems from last year and know
what we have to do.”
St. Mary's athlete Paul Zacharski

“I can
definitely see improvements from last year. Our team didn’t have everyone
committed. Everyone is committed and showing up. We have been working to get
ready.”
St. Mary's lineman Aris Lewis-Carroll

The toughest team they will face in the
conference

“It is definitely going to be Curley. They are always good and
they have a strong recruiting class.”
John Carroll linebacker Julian Meares

“I think our conference is pretty strong. I know Curley is solid. They are
the only team that has beaten us over the last two years. St. Mary’s and Severn
have played us tough. John Carroll got our defensive coordinator and they’ll be
more competitive. The conference is wide open but I think Curley would pose the
biggest threat.”
St. Pauls quarterback Anthony Pino

“Probably St.
Pauls.”
St. Mary's athlete Paul Zacharski

“St. Pauls probably because
we beat them last year and they’ll come for us. Also Archbishop Curley.”
St.
Mary's lineman Aris Lewis-Carroll

The toughest player they will face in the conference

“We struggled with Marty Costes of Curley last year. He was one of their running
backs and he is fast. Their other running back, Deonte Harris, is a fast kid. I
know those kids are good but I don’t know many other kids from other teams.”

St. Pauls quarterback Anthony Pino

“I’m not sure.”
St. Mary's athlete
Paul Zacharski

“I don’t pay attention to the other players.”
St.
Mary's lineman Aris Lewis-Carroll

“I have no clue. Curley has a really
good linebacker.”
John Carroll defensive end Julian Meares

Monocacy Valley - Piedmont Quotes

On their team
“I think we’ll be a really solid team that is better than last year. We have
a new coach coming in and change is good. I know all of the top prospects they
are looking at for the new coaches and they all would do great. We will run a
fast paced offense where we can set some records this year.”
Urbana running
back Ray Gray

“I was surprised when I came back. The tea looks
really good. I didn’t think they’d be as strong and as fast as they were. I saw
a couple of games and they looked good but I have a lot of hope for this
season.”
Oakdale offensive lineman Julian Lynn

“We lost a lot of
starters and half the line. We have some other seniors and juniors who will have
to step up. We should be good but I don’t know if we’ll be as good as last
year.”
Middletown offensive lineman Will McClain

“We are working hard.
It is a program on the rise right now.”
Oakdale linebacker Drew Yarborough

“I’m really excited. We got one of the greatest coaches in Maryland and
he has an amazing offense.”
Urbana running back Ray Gray

“I just
recently transferred to Oakdale. It is a pretty new school so I think they
haven't been out of the second round of the playoffs. I am basically trying to
work hard and help them have a winning season.”
Oakdale athlete Alex Mason

“Our high school should be very successful this year. All the hard work in
the off-season should show. I’ve been watching them while I’m in lacrosse and
they are going balls to the wall. They want it just as bad as I do.”
Urbana
quarterback Donovan Pannell

The toughest team they will face in the conference
“Either
Linganore, Middletown, or Urbana. Out of those three, the top team is
Linganore.”
Oakdale offensive lineman Julian Lynn

“It is really early
but based off of last year, I am thinking Linganore.”
Middletown offensive
lineman Will McClain

“Probably Urbana with Ray Gray or Linganore with
Dante Butler. Middletown is always good competition and we are in the 2A bracket
with them.”
Oakdale linebacker Drew Yarborough

“It is probably
Linganore. They are always a tough game. I don’t see Middletown giving us any
trouble like the last few years. They lost a lot of good people.
Urbana
running back Ray Gray

“I’d say Linganore and Middletown are the two from
last year.”
Oakdale athlete Alex Mason

“I would say it would have to
be Middletown or Linganore but also Oakdale is up there because of the newer
players that they have gotten.”
Urbana quarterback Donovan Pannell

The toughest player they will face in the conference

“Raekwon Gray, the offensive lineman at Middletown, or the offensive tackle at
Linganore.”
Oakdale offensive lineman Julian Lynn

“I don’t really
know.”
Middletown offensive lineman Will McClain

“It’ll be Ray Gray
from Urbana. He was the offensive player of the year last year.”
Oakdale
linebacker Drew Yarborough

“This year it’ll probably be Dante Butler from
Linganore. He is my cousin and I actually work out with him. We talk a lot of
trash but he’ll be hard to stop.”
Urbana running back Ray Gray

“Ray
Gray from Urbana.”
Oakdale athlete Alex Mason

“It is hard to point
out a single player for a certain team but Linganore has E.J. Donahue. He will
be a great offensive lineman. I know Middletown was senior heavy last year and
Oakdale has some really good players there now. In the end, I think it is more
of a team game and it will take efforts by the team to win the game.”
Urbana
quarterback Donovan Pannell

Georgia Tech, the Nike Combine, and the Rivals camp.”

Recruiting
“I’ve
been getting a lot of stuff from NC State, Penn State, and Princeton.”

Visits
“No, not yet.”

Places to visit
“I definitely want to visit
Notre Dame, Penn State, and NC Sate. Notre Dame is one of my favorite schools.”

A favorite college growing up
“It would be Penn State and Notre Dame. I
have liked them since I was younger.”

......................................................................................................

Aberdeen quarterback LaVell McCullers

A college decision
“I committed to Marist. I liked the school. It has good
academics and a good football program.”

Others schools considered
“I
was looking at Delaware State, Maryland, NC State, Towson, and New Hampshire.”

Why Marist over the other schools?
“I liked the coaches. They were all
really friendly and they know what they are doing. I liked the players that I
met on my visit.”

What his role will be
“They said I would definitely
be in consideration as a starter. Their quarterback left this year and they have
no quarterbacks with game experience returning.”

What he plans to get
ready for college
“I’ll be working out a lot this summer. I got a speed
training coach and then I’ll be on the field throwing with receivers.”

The Marist coaches
“They are great coaches. They know what they are talking
about. They know how to reach a lot of players. The players love their coaches.”

......................................................................................................

Suitland athlete Nick Nelson

What would change
his decision
“I’m not really sure. I don’t know. I doubt anything will change
it.”

What other schools are in the mix?
“The school that is looking at
me and showing me interest is Rutgers. They are interested and called me last
week. They might offer before signing day.”

What is the situation at
Rutgers?
“I don’t know the situation but I doubt if I decommit.”

Have
you been to Rutgres before?
“I’ve been there before for a camp.”

What
happens if they offer?
“If they were to offer, I don’t know. I don’t have
enough time to take a visit. I’ll probably stick with Hawaii.”

Why did
you pick Hawaii
“It is just the players, the atmosphere, and the coaches.”

What was the hardest part of recruiting?
“The hardest thing was just
making a decision and sticking with it.”

......................................................................................................

Bishop McNamara athlete Robert Jackson Jr

Recruiting
“Last week, the coach from Virginia Tech came and talked to me.
The coach from the University of Delaware came out and talked to me. Boston
College invited me to their junior day coming up. The coach from Old Dominion
emailed me and said that I should come up to their camp this summer.”

The
school recruiting the hardest?
“Probably Old Dominion.”

Schools that
are close to offering?
“I feel that an offer will come after going to their
camp.”

Summer camps
“I’m looking to get to the camps of the schools
that are recruiting me.”

......................................................................................................

Middletown lineman Will McClain

How did you get your first offer?
“West Virginia offered me by calling up
my coach. Coach Lynott called me down to his office and he told me that at 12 o
clock today West Virginia had offered me a scholarship. I said that was great
and didn’t really know how to respond.”

What were your thoughts on the
first offer?
“I was really happy and I was glad that I got an offer. I felt a
big old weight lifted off of my shoulders.”

How do you feel about West
Virginia?
“I like West Virginia. I’ve been following them for a little bit
and have been learning about what they are doing up there.”

What visits
are you going to take?
“I went up there for camp during the summer for one
day. That was pretty much it.”

Were you surprised about the offer?
“I
was really surprised. I didn’t hear anything from them expect that here is an
offer.”

Have you heard from them since they offered?
“No, they haven't
contacted me or anything yet.”

What visits are you planning to make?

“I’m going to try and go to a West Virginia junior day. Right after, Coach let
me know about to their junior day in February.”

Are any other schools
close to offering?
“No, not really. I don’t really know about that yet.”
