The Viking Nation

Wake up Lowndes County. It's Game day!
Lowndes Football begins its campaign for the new football season tonight at the spring football scrimmage day. First year Head Coach, Adam Carter, leads our Vikings into a new era of exciting football.
Today's scrimmage activities begin at 4pm. Here's what the schedule looks like.
1. Our three middle schools will scrimmage at 4:00 pm
2. 9th grade (upcoming) will scrimmage at 5:00 pm
3. Varsity (upcoming) will scrimmage at 6:00 pm. The state champion baseball team will be recognized before the beginning of the varsity scrimmage.
Admission to today's scrimmage activities will be $5 per person for all contests. Only the home side will be open and all fans will need to come to the north end home gates to purchase tickets and enter the stadium. Gates will open at 3:00 pm and tickets will go on sale then. The north end home concession stand will be open for all scrimmages. All seating is general admission on the home side.

Head Coach makes $145.000 a year. All he does is coach. Has 19 assistants.

Clear Spring Baseball

A few months ago there was a tragic car accident three Clear Spring Students passed away. Two baseball players and a soccer player their jersey numbers were 3,2 and 11. Yesterday Clear Spring won the 1A state championship baseball game by the score of 3-2 in 11 innings, Number 7 hit the winning home run in the 11th inning. I’m not sure what the significance of #7 is, but the article I read pointed it out lol.

Q&A with Wise athlete Freddie Glass

How did the high school football season go overall?
“Overall this high school football season was pretty fun for me being around the guys learning and adapting to a new culture, but we left a lot on the table. We didn't accomplish our main goal and that was to win the championship.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plans right now are to get better. I’m trying to figure out certain things I need to improve on and get better at. My thing is trying to be in the best shape of my life all round, this is probably the most work I’ve ever put in when it comes to the off-season because not only do I work out 4 days a week with my team but I’ve put the work outside of my team workouts and that’s something I don’t usually do.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I think my team will do pretty well this upcoming football season, we’re more locked in than we’ve ever been. We understand that the guys who’ve won something aren’t in the locker room any more so we’re hungry and determined to bring a championship and we understand we have to step it up and carry on the legacy.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Honestly I like our schedule, I think it will be a very tough matchup for us and always will be Flowers. They tasted what it was like to be at the top and they will try to prove that they’re here to stay and we have to reprove that we run PH county.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“There are many tough players we will have to face this year, but one group I’ll have to say is the Flowers defense. I think they’re pretty well rounded, led by that d-line.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes, I have dreams and aspirations to play college football at the highest level. It'll be a dream come true to know that everything you went through and worked for it’ll all be worth it.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“Not many schools have been heavily recruiting me at the moment. I have been getting interest from a pretty decent amount of schools.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“The school that’s probably been recruiting me the hardest is probably between Air Force and the University of Penn, they’ve shown the most interest in me.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“So far I’ve been down Georgetown University and during the season was down Robert Morris University but as I get my schedule fully planned out I will be down more universities.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“I don’t have any plans right now, but am looking forward to going down certain schools.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Growing up my favorite college was the University of Michigan and Florida State University.”

Maddie Penta named SEC pitcher of the year

Continuing what she started at Bo Manor

FH Track - 100M Dash

Congratulations to Tristan Ross for breaking a 10 year old school record at tonight’s track meet for Fort Hill. Tristan ran 11.05 in the 100M dash breaking the Sophomore Record. The previous record was set in 2013 by Ty Johnson with a time of 11.2. Congratulations Tristan! <copy & paste>

It was easy to spot Tristan's speed last year on the gridiron from his halfback position. Speed options are necessary where a 10 yard gain easily becomes a 70 yard TD.

Melbourne Central Catholic

Not sure how many remember their left handed QB Joaquin Collazo when the Hustlers came to Greenway to play Fort Hill in 2017. He could sling it. So I looked him up. He played for Bethel University in Tennessee as a junior last year and led the NAIA in passing yards.
LINK: https://fifthquarter.net/naia/2022/11/20/naia-passing-leaders/

Their other great player was Zamari Walton who signed with Georgia Tech that year. He was the guy who returned an interception 106 yards for a pick six against Fort Hill. Walton just transferred to Ole Miss where he will play his senior season after spending the last five seasons with the Yellow Jackets where he recorded 123 total tackles, 17 pass breakups, three interceptions, and one sack.

Where does BW basketball go?

LINK: Dan Prete to leave Bishop Walsh; Spartans return to local basketball schedule

It will be interesting to see who the Spartans do play and what the roster looks like. This obviously means BW is out of the NIBC. Lots of questions remain I'm sure.

I knew when they hired Coach Prete he would not be in Cumberland for the long haul. He has bounced around quite a few places, which is usually the norm for any coach.
