Posted. FH takes over Boonsboro for 1st place.

Week 8 Point Totals

FH, Boonsboro and Alco are locked into a playoff spot.

The battle for 4th place will be between Northern and Smithsburg. Both still have to play Boonsboro. One thing seems pretty certain...Smithsburg will have to beat Williamsport this week to have a chance.

Barring a complete meltdown, it looks like Clear Spring and Hancock are out. They just have not played anyone all year that gets them enough bonus points.

If the playoffs started today it would be:
Northern at Fort Hill
Allegany at Boonsboro

Correct, no one has clinched. I chose to use the word "locked" which probably wasn't a much better choice of words. But a few things are being assumed here by both myself and the person on the Sun Board...obviously.

First off, Smithsburg already has 3 losses, not 2. Not sure how that person came up with an 8-2 finish for Smithsburg. Could have been a typo.

Second, the most points Smithsburg can wind up with is 7.30 points. That assumes things like winless Brunswick beating both Allegany and Catoctin to close the season. It also assumes other extremely unlikely sceanrios like Clear Spring beating a very good East Hardy. North Hagerstown beating South Hagerstown, a current 2-win North Carroll winning out.

The lowest point total FH could possibly have is actually 6.48. But that also assumes every team FH beat loses every game from here on out.

I'm going to go out on a major limb and guarantee that Alco beats Brunswick (sorry Coach Preaskorn for the added pressure).

I also have a scenario where both Clear Spring and Hancock gets in.

So mathematically, no one has 100% clinched a playoff spot as the Sun post does point out. Lots of assumptions have to be made, some of them seemingly impossible.

Todd is 100 percent correct in that there are certain things you generally can take to the bank. Based on those things, Fort Hill, Allegany and Boonsboro are locks and the final 4th spot comes down to Smithsburg and Northern, Thanks for pointing out the mathematical side of things, but, the reality is, any discussion beyond Fort Hill, Allegany, Boonsboro and either Northern or Smithsburg is a complete waste of time.

Yep its just not possible for Mt. Ridge to defeat FH or Brunswick to get their first win of the season against Alco..

in week 10 - IF Boonsboro beats Smithsbug, and Northern beats Southern.
do u think would Northern hang on to the 4th spot in the region?

Awwweeee yeeeeaaaahhhh the Huskies have to come to Greenway!!!! Your prize for making the playoffs is a 1st round butt whopping by the team you dodge in the regular season. Irony is so ironic

The fourth playoff spot in 1A West is simple:

If Smithsburg beats Boonsboro, Smithsburg is in and Northern is out.
If Smithsburg loses to Boonsboro, Northern is in and Smithsburg is out.
This all assumes Northern beats Southern.

So Smithsburg starts their playoffs next week. The Leopards control their own destiny.

Don't assume that Boonsboro wins this game easily. This game is always close and hard faught. Records mean nothing.
