Catoctin Fairmont

The Seats are about 40 yard line to 40 yard line, very small with 2 very small sets of extra bleachers that are used locally for baseball fields.

Would you guess 800 seats here? I'm thinking 800-1000.

They will just have to let people sir chairs or stand on the track or inside the track. I remember going to TJ in the rain storm and people had to stand down near the field because of limited seating.

I thought he was joking when he said it held Dunbar just fine lol. I thought most know Dunbar doesn’t have many fans at the game.......
BlueandWhite10....... were you being sarcastic in a jokingly way or were you serious? Lol

When Dunbar came to Thurmont they traveled pretty well. There is a big difference between traveling to Cumberland and traveling to Thurmont from Baltimore. Obviously there were more Catoctin fans but Dunbar had a good showing.

All I've read on this board the past 2 weeks is how sad it is that there haven't been good turnouts for games now all the sudden the whole town is going to drive 2 hours down the road for a game? And frankly it seems a majority of you think it won't be much of the game anyway so why drive 2 hours for a running clock?

FH has a benchapalooza. So, basis tradition - or what so remains - they travel so the no-players don't get the idea that their parents don't care because they don't play. It's a Cumberland thing... or specifically, a FH thing since they 1A'd it.

I bleed red and white but I think last years team at fort hill would beat this team by 4 touchdowns and I’m sure Catoctin is much better this year than they were last year so it should be a great game

I seem to remember a lot of people sitting on the hill at the Brunswick game a few years ago. And I remember sitting on a cross-tie wall at a Forestville game in the 90s. Plenty of other games where you just had to deal with it. So that's my advice people... Deal with it. Or don't go and have your pick of radio stations to listen to.

The FH definition of a good turnout is usually very different from most programs. FH fans have historically traveled by the thousands to away games--going back decades from my own memories. The townies that regularly comment in this forum are small town hs football fanatics which often leads to less than stellar commentary about opponents, their facilities, etc. Regardless of the truly meaningless banter, this has the makings of a great hs football game. Anyone that thinks otherwise, well, you probably shouldn't put much stock in what they're saying. I expect this game to come down to the wire and may involve OT. I think homefield advantage is a real advantage at this level, during a big game, on a grass field, in the cold. FH is accustomed to playing on a brand new artificial surface--this is a detail that matters. I believe FH will travel well, and certainly better than most teams, but they will not have the crowd they've historically had. A number of folks will likely be out hitting the outlets for Black Friday, so that may encourage Cumberland'ers to make a day of it and take in the game before heading home. Outlets in Gettysburg Cumberland'ers--skip Hagerstown outlets for tax free clothing purchases in PA, js.

Dunbar was lucky to have 100 people at the State Championship Games when they are held at Ravens Stadium 5 minutes away from the School.

You mean not everyone is using Amazon Prime? Geez. I even order my $5 grill cleaner for next day. Are all those lines and scratched bumpers worth skipping the tax. Buy brand name clothing in your size. Oh well, to each his/her own.

Are you saying Catoctin won't bring fans? My analogy of a huge crowd is based on both FH and Catoctin bringing fans.

When I see a High School football game with less than 3,000 people that's a horrible turnout to me.
a good showing? any pee wee game in Cumberland could fill the stands at Catoctin, It really does confuse me why so many schools even big 4A schools don't have many fans at the games. most WV Games and PA Games have very nice crowds but not here in MD

If you have to shop for a number of young people, unfortunately savings from in-store shopping can be worth the brutality. For some, it's still an annual event just like Thanksgiving dinner. But you have to be strategic to make it tolerable. My strategy is to let the women handle it while I make last minute preparations for opening day of rifle season.

Saw the post on your FB page. Dude, you created a monster!

Catoctin fans getting a bit defensive.:D:D

My warning about seating issues has nothing to do with creating a monster. We have all pointed to the Catoctin game since week 1, that's why seating will be a problem.

I hear yah. Never missed hunting Big Run.... got my buck almost every year. Shit... too old now. Fell in some very cold water during fall trout fishing the other year.... ugh, gave that up. Quite frankly, down here we have many more folks driving that should not be driving... (some shouldn't even be in the country).

Some things are just tradition... even the hassles generate fond memories we don't give up until we have to.

If anything, it rattles the folks down there and psyches up their team. If the place is rowdy and crowded it will not effect FH one twit. Catoctin drops their comfort zone and home field advantage.

I have to say fh crowds these days are unpredictable. There were more fans at Hollidaysburg and Morgantown than there were at the last three home playoff games. Talking to a few folks about this the consensus seems to be FH blows out all these teams at home so there's no real need to sit out in the cold or rain. When it comes to a road game it seems like people feel they almost need to go and support because the team needs it more.
