Cadets score the first touchdown of this game.

Nice scramble by Cadet QB. Found a streaking WR in the corner of the end zone. Extra point is good. 7-0 Frederick, 6:03 1st Quarter.

Frederick cashed in a Miners turnover for the score.

Frederick had a long run for touchdown called back for multiple penalties. Still 7-0 FHS with under a minute to go in the first quarter.

Frederick leads 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Miners should be receiving punt to start second quarter.

Mountain Ridge uses a short field following a botched snap on punt to cash in a touchdown. Very short touchdown run, extra point is good. Game tied at 7 with 10:50 to go in the first half.

Mountain Ridge takes advantage of another Cadet turnover.

Couldn’t get a touchdown however. 27-yard field goal give MR their first lead of this game. 10-7 MR with 2:25 left in the first half.

Frederick only needs a couple plays to get the lead right back.

14-10 Frederick with 1:28 to go in first half.

I know it's only the first half, but so far tonight, the backup sophomore quarterback is looking like a backup sophomore quarterback. Hopefully he can right the ship in the second half.

Frederick becomes the first team (other than Fort Hill) to defeat Mountain Ridge in nearly 5 years.

Cadets hold on for the 28-23 win over the Miners. Too many mistakes, and the inability to stop the run dooms Ridge.

Quite an effort by MR. Too bad they didn't win against a 4A school that refuses to play all 1A schools and will probably not want to play the miners again either.

And by no means am I putting this solely on the QB, he has played well up until this game and had some decent throws this game. The big uglies up front have struggled on both sides of the ball. Like Beall said, they struggle to stop the run, and on offense the RB is getting hit in the backfield way to often. Nonetheless, it's only one loss. On to next week.

I can’t remember a time that Mountain Ridge has been dominated on the line of scrimmage as they have been in 2024. Minus their games against Fort Hill.

They will more than likely be 3-3 heading into the final three games of the year against Northern, Williamsport and Keyser.

4-5 or 5-4 is where I see this finishing at the end of the regular season. I hope that I am wrong.

I am very impressed by the resiliency of this group of Miners. They definitely didn’t have the talent that Frederick had on the field last night.

Frankfort has been so dominant this year, their starters have played less than a half in every game, except 1. It isn’t going help when they go against a competitive team

I wholeheartedly agree Beall. I love the resiliency of this Miner team. As bad as we think they have played, they are still 3-1, and were in the game until the very end against a much bigger Frederick team. The next two weeks at home are going to be tough. I see them losing both, (probably by running clock to Big Red). Northern always plays tough for a school their size, but I have Ridge pulling that game out, along with the last two games to finish 6-3. Still love the Ridge no matter what, we have been kind of spoiled the last couple of years. 🤣🤣🤣

The only issue that I see with a 6-3 finish is the game against Northern. The Huskies have always played Beall/Mountain Ridge very tough. They are a very physical team and Mountain Ridge has struggled with teams like that so far this year.

I can't tell you how happy it is to be a Mountain Ridge Miner football fan right now. Coach Patterson (and I am sure a few others) did such an amazing job bringing this program out of the toilet. I have nothing but respect for Coach DeVore and what he did at Beall and Mountain Ridge. Sometimes you just need a change. I have the utmost respect for him in knowing that it was time.

We are now entering the fourth full season of football for most programs since Covid had the abrupt halt to most high school athletics. Games in Maryland are much more competitive in 2024 than they have been the past three years. Let's face it, Mountain Ridge wasn't going to be in the State Championship every year forever. I do believe that the program that Coach P built has the ability to be sustainable, maybe not to the level of the past three years, but to a pretty high level, nonetheless.

Patterson left for whatever reason he wants to say. But know that the QB pipeline ran dry and he left. Coincidence??? Plus the line ??? Easy to speculate but no wants to say it

Coach Patterson has been involved in the Beall/Mountain Ridge program for over 20 years. He waited in line behind DeVore because the MR program was his to run when Roy left.

I can certainly understand the viewpoint of losing some talent and it coinciding with his decision to leave the program.

Let’s not put the cart before the horse here. Mountain Ridge will likely finish 5-4 or 6-3 this year. They have been decimated by injuries to key players this year, including their starting quarterback. You can’t go undefeated or have 1 loss every season. The MR program isn’t all the sudden in the dumps. Coach Patterson left for a very valid reason. Being a newly minted parent of my first child recently myself, I can certainly understand his decision. I applaud him for putting his family first. He also put his football family first for many years, and continued to do so in making this decision.

I think 2 things can be true at the same time with Paterson “retiring” and shipe taking over. I agree 100% with Paterson stepping away to become a new father again. Good for him and I wish him the best for his family but I do think ridge will take big step back over the next few years and I do think Paterson knew that was going to happen. The mountain ridge JV team hasn’t been very good the last few years and I believe they didn’t win a game last year and the games against area JV teams weren’t really close. It may be a rough few couple years for ridge but I’d say Paterson will be back under the headset within 5 years.

The JV's went 7 - 3 last year. Two of the losses came late in the season after some of the players were moved up to the Varsity roster, including the quarterback, who is the starting quarterback this year. The JV team this season currently sits at 3-1.

Used to be a time not so long ago that having 5 or more JV players on varsity was unheard of. Now it's a normal necessity to have 8-9 JV moved up for all local teams.

You can’t go by JV anymore. BTW Bible Freshman for Alco played a good game Thursday night. The youth league seem fairly competitive
