Alco Soccer

Success breeds success.
You can also see it in their softball and baseball programs.
I'm not sure that is the case. Allegany doesn't have a JV softball program and maybe had 15-17 kids. 41 kids for soccer is great for Alco, I heard they even had to have cuts.

I also see Allegany feeder baseball and softball programs dominating. Success can breed numbers and dedication for the feeder programs. The opposite can be true when years of struggling occurs. Not saying this is always the case as quality coaching also matters a great deal.

I have tried to help Southern in small ways rebuild numbers to keep a football program. There is so much that goes into that formula, with maybe the biggest being not getting beat every week by 50 points. I think they made a great decision to cancel varsity football last year but keep the 9th and 10th graders together at the JV level. It did them no good from a participation numbers stand point to use 9th and 10th graders on varsity to get beat by 50.

Yes, the soccer cut around 14, I believe to get the number in the high twenties. First time they had cuts in soccer that I know of. It has a lot to do with successful programs, travel teams, playing year round indoor and outdoor from youth up.
