FH appeal question.

Forget the athletic consequences of the situation for a moment. Where does this young man, going forward, attend school?. Is the BOE going to allow him to finish the semester? Is he going to have to immediately return to his home state and school district? Are the parents going to pay the out-of-state tuition to allow him to continue his education and athletic career in Allegany County? (Btw, I have no idea what the out-of-state tuition fee is. I do know that the per-student per-year expenditure in Allegany County is over 15K). I feel for this young man on so many levels.
All good questions, what about the responsibility of the BOE to gather and check records of incoming students.

Playoffs are set - FH at Alco Friday at 7:00

I think the bear has been poked!

Right - Wrong - or don't care.
The BOE has taught a valuable lesson to the student body of Fort Hill!

The players actions of defending their teammate is so much like a band of brothers (we can fight each other but don't let an outsider poke one of us)!

I only hope they wear the red Family pants throughout the playoffs.

Doesn’t matter at this point, but an interesting thing I noticed about the point standings: If Hancock’s administration didn’t make the team opt out of the playoffs, we would’ve had Fort Hill at Clear Spring and Hancock at Allegany in the first round
I understood the last few years of Hancock opting out with how good the FH and mountain ridges teams were but everyone seems to be more down compared to those previous teams so why not take a chance

Absolute Truth!!

Fort Hill forfeit status - The Appeal

Just to keep fans up to date...

Fort Hill has not had their appeal heard with the MPSSAA yet at this time. There was not enough time today (Monday) to make any decision before the playoff match ups are to be announced by 4:30. So Fort Hill will accept their 2-7 forfeit record in regards to playoff status and seeding.

Fort Hill has 30 days to appeal the regular season wins they forfeited. If they would win that case, their wins would be restored for the state record books. But it has no bearing on the current playoff seedings. FH will likely wait until their season is over before setting up the appeal. If by chance FH would win the state championship --- the rings will bear 12-2. Whatever.

Whoever filed the initial "anonymous" tip wasn't cunning enough to wait until this week. Had this all went down right now, the FH season would be over. No postseason for the Sentinels.

FH appeal question.

Well I'll say one last thing and then it is what it is. Does anybody think that if you don't publicly bring this to everyone's attention and honor this kid that it means you aren't his friend? Aren't you his friend by continuing to do what you do without anything changing. By publicly doing this it almost comes off like nothing wrong has happened. This was a clear violation and it's sad that every other player and coach will go down as the team that had more losses than any FH team since the Chaney days and people will always always say FH cheats every time there is an argument of any kind. For the other aspect of Alco students being unfair do you think maybe they were egged on a little by the FH players showing such strong support?
Wasn't this kid supposed to be a boost for the bb team? Guess what, we play alco twice, in a gym, not out in a big open area. Those students are not going to forget this and the more it's given air the more relentless they will be. What about Frankfort, do you think they might have anything say at the bb games? Will MR, Southern, Northern all decide to join in like a clan and vilify this young man?
It would have been smart to let this appeal play out, a decision made, and let the blame be placed where it belongs. Maybe this us against the world or unity/family thing will bring home another title...but what appears to be celebrating somebody while you just forfeited most of your season is not a good look.
I hate what happened and what you're saying, but your rationale sure makes sense.

Patriots sweep Braddock in CAYFL Super Bowls

FYI, it happens at Alco.

You are trying to cling to old values. I am guilty of the same much too often. Yea, I was one of those red & white dudes not happy about Dunbar pulling kids from all over Baltimore in the name of magnet education tactics as early back as the 1990s. Can't think that way anymore. The world evolved. I can't look Reggie Bush in the eye and tell him he doesn't deserve his Heisman back for taking money decades ago. Felt the same about Pete Rose. There are gambling ads on World Series broadcasts now. I had to grow/adapt mentally. Doesn't mean I like it though.

Now you can throw in paying players to go to other high schools. NIL for teenagers exists in most every state. Just call it what it is -- pay for play. Every dollar spent has attachments for teenagers. Even worse for private schools. There were kids that played for BW basketball that attended 3 different schools in 3 years, coming from places far far away, yet most of Cumberland embraced the concept. I know public schools are different, but are they really? Yea, not as extreme but the transfer portal is alive and well everywhere. So it depends on the lessons society wishes to teach young men and women. Monkey see, monkey do. Kids don't distinguish whether "ME" is public or private.

Even more so for parents who think their kids will get a scholarship if they play here or there to drive their own bus. I don't name names, but there are two dads I know right now that round the clock shop their kid to multiple schools every week to see where the grass might be greener for their boy getting more carries or passes. And if they don't get those carries or passes the threat to go elsewhere is on the table openly.

This is not the world we grew up in. Not even 10 years ago. The less fortunate in this system are going to complain while easily doing the same when possible. Half the FH team could transfer to Alco next season. Does anyone believe Alco coaches would not take them? Everyone is in the same fish bowl now. I know personally local coaches in this county who call kids to see if they are interested in transferring in many sports. It might be worse for girls sports now. Heck, I watch Dapper Dan daddy coaches load up with ringers over the phone.

On the lines of where kids play football in elementary/middle schools... How many kids play for WV teams whose parents all went to Alco or FH but bought a home in WV for tax purposes? Not sure why it's so surprising they end up back in Cumberland schools for high school where their families have lifetime loyalties. I watched all the Robinette brothers play pee wee ball in WV only to move to Virginia Ave in South Cumberland while driving their sons to Alco daily so they could play pigskin. I applaud them for it, they are diehard Allegany parents. How many kids live in Bel Air and play girls/boys sports at Alco and Mtn Ridge? There is no more district restriction. I could go through an entire list of names the past 20 years of kids who lived on the other side of town but played sports out of district. It's not really new, just more widespread.

My advice to any coach: you can either embrace the transfer portal and win games or fight it and lose games. I said the same thing about social media 15 years ago. I embraced the power of social media. It's why I post here and many places. I also made sure my income sources had no control over what I embrace on social media that contradicts their own greedy benefits.

Literally, there are people in high places that have condemned me for being on social media only to have them ask me from time to time to put something on social media to get their side of the story out. It's powerful. Denial isn't just a river in Westernport, LOL.

There is a reason you skim through business ads at every digital media location you dwell. In case some folks were not paying attention, people of all ages stare at cell phones all day. I spent an entire day (as in 10 straight hours) of texting and talking on my cell when this FH eligibility forfeit situation broke. Now who am I to tell teenagers they are starring at their phone too much? It's like reading quotes from Coach Hansel joking that players transfer to FH because the girls are more pretty. I like Coach Hansel, but that does not stop me from saying his reason for poking at the subject is because FH gets them more than he does. Not because they do it and he doesn't. Like me texting my grand kids to tell them they use their cell phones too much.
Totally agree 💯 percent. The world is constantly changing. I am old school as well. High schooler of the mid seventies. Spent many years down state and saw the evolution of high school athletics. Was I a big fan of the magnet school program's? No. Yet I learned the purpose of it. Cumberland is why behind the times. People here often are hypocritical. No one really cares where a kid goes to school, what they care about is where they play football, or basketball. Even back in the 70s, and I'm sure all the way through today, there have been Arrowettes that lived in South End, and Fort Hill band members from North End. Nobody seems to care. Never heard the community outcry about this. Little double standard I would think. No longer should a kid obligated to a school because of what street their great grandparents decide to lay down their roots a century ago. A high school student should have a choice as to what fits their needs regardless of sport or other extra curricular activity.

Hancock Head Coach resigns

I didn’t watch the interview but opting out of the playoffs is not the mindset you need from a leader.

We all know anything can happen in a one game playoff situation. I’m sure everyone on this board can name more than one game where the opponent got beat pretty bad the first time and came back and won the second match..

Yes anything can happen. Our friends at Wadsworth lost their last regular season game to North Royalton 44-37. Beat that same team last week in their first playoff game 38-7.

Just last year, Havre de Grace upset two teams before losing to Fort Hill.

Hancock Head Coach resigns

I did not hear this, and hopefully for the returning players, his comments were taken out of context. He may be a wonderful person, but I for one would not want my child playing in that environment. Yet many people in this area believe a kid should have to play under that circumstance, because of what side of of a street their parents decided to live on way before they were even born. Antiquated thinking.
Agreed. I doubt the Alco kids would've wanted to quit either way. Not how our youth is raised.

Hancock Head Coach resigns

Did anyone happen to listen to Hansel’s post homecoming post game interview speaking of opting out of the playoffs? One of the WCBC guys asked him about the rematch with FH and he said that he wanted to ask his team if they wanted to opt out or play the game? He said it would be up to them if they wanted the challenge again. I can’t believe he would even mention opting out. Maybe alco admin needs to reach out to coach hare about possibly taking over the team for the playoffs
