Maryland Varsity is bringing readers an in-depth recruiting look with the
Varsity Insider. Find out what colleges are after Darryl Turner, Coleman
Blackston, DaSharnte Thompson, LaVell McCullers, and Nick Nelson now!
......................................................................................................
Dunbar running back Coleman Blackston
Recruiting: “Right now, the only school that is talking to me is Towson.
There are not any other schools.”
Towson situation: “They haven't offered
but I’ve been talking to their running back coach. He has been calling me.”
A favorite college growing up: “Growing up my favorite college was Penn
State. I still want to go there so hopefully they’ll come.”
......................................................................................................
Good Counsel linebacker DaSharnte Thompson
Recruiting: “Right now, I’ve been talking a lot to Old Dominion and Fordham
University but I am still open to everyone.”
Offers: “No.”
Others
sending mail: “Towson and New Hampshire.”
Visits: “I’ll take my trips
after my season is over.”
Schools he wants to visit: “I definitely want
to get up to Rutgers, down to North Carolina, and a few schools like Old
Dominion.”
Schools close to offering: “They could be, they could not be.
I am just worrying about the season.”
A favorite college growing
up:“Rutgers for the most part.”
......................................................................................................
DeMatha athlete Darryl Turner
His injury: “I broke my tibia and tore my patella tendon jumping for a pass.
I came off the ground and my knee twisted. It just broke.”
How
reclassifying works for him to now be in the Class of 2016: “At DeMatha, if an
injury is bad enough, they can get you a waiver because I couldn’t go to school.
They got me a waiver and I’ll be a fifth year senior.”
What are you able
to do now: “Right now, I’m still not at school. I am just rehabbing and trying
to get back.”
The hardest part of the injury: “It is tough. The pain is
kind of tough but the worst part is not being able to play and practice with my
tem every day.”
If recruiting has slowed down: “Actually after I got
hurt, a lot more letters came in asking me how I was doing and encouraging me.
Once they found out I was in 2016, they started picking up more.”
A
favorite college growing up: “My favorite college growing up was probably Miami
or Maryland.”
Visits:“I went to a Boston College game a couple of weeks
ago and I am trying to fly out to Cal and probably Notre Dame too.”
......................................................................................................
Aberdeen quarterback LaVell McCullers
Recruiting: “Right now, it has been NIU, Towson, Coastal Carolina, Missouri,
UMASS, and Temple.”
Offers: “JMU, Towson, and NIU are waiting until the
end of my senior year to see how it went.”
College visits: “I’ve been to
Towson, JMU, Delaware, Temple, NC State, and UNC.”
A favorite: “No, I
don’t have any favorites right now. I am still keeping my options open.”
A favorite college growing up: “My favorite school was Oregon and the U, Miami
University.”
......................................................................................................
Suitland athlete Nick Nelson
Recruiting: “I talked to Temple, the University of South Carolina, Towson,
North Carolina A&T, and North Carolina Central.”
Who has offered: Right
now I just have them from North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central.”
What schools are close to offering: “South Carolina.”
A final
decision: “Probably after I sent out my highlight tapes and see what coaches
think.”
A favorite: “South Carolina.”
Visits: “I haven't made any
recent visits but I made a visit to South Carolina back in July.”
