Maryland Varsity is bringing readers an in-depth recruiting look with the
Varsity Insider. Find out what colleges are after Patrick Johnson II,
Jacob Atkinson, Jonathan Lee, Damon Hazelton, and Brandon Battle now!

......................................................................................................

Eastern Christian linebacker Jacob Atkinson

Camps: “I went to West Virginia, Stonehill, the Alabama 7-on-7, and the camp
in Michigan that had a bunch of different coaches there.”

Camp
Performances: “It was definitely good and I got a lot of interest. They said
that they would be watching film. No one really pulled the trigger or anything
but I am pretty sure a lot of schools are interested.”

Camp Feedback: “It
was good. My flexibility and coverage was a lot better but I could only do so
much at the camps. They said that they would watch me this season.”

Recruiting: “It is definitely the University of Penn. They are recruiting me the
hardest at this point. There has also been San Diego State, West Virginia, and a
couple of Division I-AA and II schools.”

Visits: “I haven't put anything
together yet. I will probably see some schools but I don’t have anything setup.”

Good Counsel running back Jonathan Lee

Camps: “I went to Kentucky, Akron, Buffalo, ECU, Old Dominion, and West
Virginia. The coaches at Akron and Buffalo offered me after the camps. It was a
great experience going to the camps and showing what I can do. I am hoping for
more offers and the schools want to see my junior tape this season.”

Feedback: “They loved my athleticism, my build, my size, and my agility. They
want to see a little bit more on tape.”

Others recruiting: “I would say
Kentucky and West Virginia.”

Visits: “I don’t have any plans for college
visits yet. Hopefully I can get down to a game on a bye week but I’m not sure
where I want to go.”

Close to offering: “I feel the closest schools are
Kentucky, West Virginia, and also ECU.”

......................................................................................................

Loyola Blakefield athlete Damon Hazelton

Camps: “I went to Clemson, UNC, ECU, North Carolina State, Morgan State,
William and Mary, the University of Miami, and I think there were two more.”

Recruiting: “William and Mary, the University of Army, Morgan State,
Bucknell, Fordham, and Eastern Michigan are some of them. Those are the ones
I’ve talked to a lot.”

Offer talk: “Miami wants to see my first couple of
games this season. I have to take my SAT to get a score that could get me in at
William and Mary. Morgan State really wants to offer but they want to make sure
I commit. They want me to commit on the spot.”

......................................................................................................

Bullis School athlete Patrick Johnson II

Camps: “I did Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Delaware. They all seemed pretty.
I got more interest and had great experience at all the camps I went to.”

Recruiting: “The schools that have offered me are Illinois and Boston
College. The other schools that are interested are Kentucky, Towson, Delaware,
Virginia Tech, Michigan, and Rutgers.”

A favorite: “Right now it has to
be Boston College and Illinois because how they have offered me scholarships.”

A final decision: “It will pretty much be before my first game of my senior
year. I will commit before the season.”

North Point quarterback Brandon Battle

What camps did you go to this summer? “Overall I went to Maryland,
Tennessee, William and Mary, Towson, Richmond, and Hampton. I believe that was
it.”

How do you feel you performed? “I think overall I did really
well at the camps. At William and Mary, they offered me after the camp and I
committed on the spot.”

Why did you pick William and Mary? “From
the looks of the campus, I liked everything I saw as from the campus
aesthetically. The coaching staff was really welcoming and we had a lot of great
conversations. The quarterback coach can help me get to the highest level and
what is ultimately what I want to achieve.”

What other schools were
considered? “Before it was Richmond at the top. They said I was most
likely going to be the first guy that they extended an offer to but that didn’t
shake out. I went to William and Mary and I fell in love.”

Why did you
decide to end the process early? “I really wanted to get it out of the way
so I can really play my game this season. I don’t have to worry about offers so
it was really a lot of stress off of me.”
