I was there for a short while. Saw FH play the huge Black & Red team. Their passing game picked apart the FH secondary. FH has lots of work to do there. Running game looks to be well on the way. The second team they faced wasn't as good as the first. FH's D was stopping them with more success than the first team. I had to leave at that point...

This is going to be a year of grit and tradition for Big Red.

It was a typical Fort Hill scrimmage. Fort Hill's D Backs came out pressing every play. They never went into a zone once. I know that Todd likes to see how his kids react and let's face it, you have to be able to play both zone and man to be effective. It's like Todd knows that his kids can play zone, but he also wants them to know how to play man as well. The backs that Todd used did ok at times but got burnt at other times. When Todd finds three or four kids who can consistently cover, the Defense will be fine.

On offense, Fort Hill moved the ball pretty well but did put the ball on the ground three times in the first two series. As far as the line play went, the tackles were the strong point. Fort Hill showed three tackles who were pretty good. (I liked both the #1s and the #2 left tackle.) The #2 is a big kid, and works great on the LOS but down field his feet are a little slow. Nonetheless, I wouldn't be shocked to see him moved to the starting LT spot and the current LT moved to C and the current C moved to G. The current Center could play that Guard spot, the other two could not.

It was hard to judge how well some of the twos did as sometimes I wasn't sure if NP or Tus. had their ones or twos in when we did. There are some things that Fort Hill does well, but their are things that they really need to work on. The big question is if they are a better team today than they were on Saturday at 3:00. On Thursday, we'll see how much they have improved but I still know that Todd will be checking on what he feels are FH's weak spots. I just know that we are going to get another dose of pressing the Wide Receivers.

BTW, North Point was very impressive. They have some gifted athletes who are ball players. It will be fun to watch what they do this year.
Tusc. will also do well, but they are in a killer region.
Northwood needs a lot of work, I do hope that they do well.

I'm assuming you're talking about North Point. That's a serious 4A school with a passing attack. Any 1A school is going to get picked apart. The same thing happened when you scrimmaged DuVal two years ago. FH won't see that level of size or talent the rest of the season.

I don't think any of the T's you mentioned or the C can play G at FH. They don't move well enough in my opinion.

Boyz, When Fort Hill scrimmaged DuVal, I know that after FH scored on the first drive, they worked on their passing game, no more runs. DuVal won the scrimmage however I felt that Fort Hill would have beaten them had they met during the season. North Point is an entirely different animal. I'd really like to see them around week 6 or 7 of the season. I'm not saying that Fort Hill can beat them but it should be one heck of a game. They are a class act and would only bring out the best in our kids. And you're right, unless this team from FLA. is for real, and not hyped, North Point will be the best team that Fort Hill will line up against this year.

TOW. Watch the center move, he's pretty good. Will he get down field 40 yds ahead of the play ???? No he won't but he will give the back enough to pick up 3 yards when needed. Linemen running 40 yards downfield looks nice but if they can't play in the trenches, they're not worth much.

North Point lit up the FH secondary. On the second series with North Point FH had defensive backs in the game I have no idea who they were. All different kids from the 1st defensive series. And they got torched. At the same time FH lit up the North Point defense with Banks and Carter gashing the middle for big gainers and touchdowns. My biggest cincern other than this young secondary is the fumbles. I think I counted 7 to 9 times the ball hit the carpet at the Quad. Mostly handoff difficulties. Hopefully that gets straightened out.

I though FH was heads above Tuscarora and Northwood is in for a long season. Would love to see FH and North Point in a real game mid season. I don't think FH could stop their passing attack and I don't think North could stop that wing T rushing attack. 2 total different styles.

Fort Hill's entire secondary is new I believe so it was good to see them tested to the max like that. Gives Todd and John McKenney a lot to teach this week. Wouldn't be a bit surprised to see Troy Banks get 1,500 yds this season. Kicking game looks solid again. One of the QB's will have to step up and show something of a passing game though.

North Point coach Petre had this to say on his twitter....

"Thank you @fh_Football for another great quad, 1st class facilities, 1st class people, tradition at its finest."
