Breaking news out of Paw Paw. The Pirates have been forced to move their home game against the Battie Mixon Catfish Club not only out of Paw Paw, but completely out of state to the Catfish Hunters home field adjacent to the Oldtown School. Paw Paw fans are fuming, and are railing against the stupid agreement signed this year to allow the Avalon Nudist Colony to pay their competitive Nude Lawn Dart games on Paw Paw's home football field. They were already mad and fearful that the divots created by the Lawn Darts could result in hometown legend Josh Delawder blowing out a knee (think Andre Pope) or at the very least turning an ankle. Then comes news that the Avalon Nudist Colony's Lawn Dart team is given preference over Paw Paw for the coveted Friday night slot as their opponent, the Haystack Mountain Sportsmans Club Ladies Auxilliary are only available on that Friday night, not on Saturday. In addition, Paw Paw attempted to get the Battie Mixon Catfish Club to move the game to Saturday but the Catfish Hunters are unavailable as they are having their annual South Branch Fishing Contest that night. Left with no other choice, and since, games for Paw Paw are getting harder and harder to find, the Pirates agreed to play the game in Oldtown, but they demanded a 50 percent cut of the gate from the Oldtown Toll Bridge for spectators from Green Spring, Springfield, Romney and Fort Ashby that will be coming to the game. What a mess. When initially faced with the debacle, they looked north to Cumberland and Allegany County to see how the problem would have been handled there, but upon closer examination of the drama there, quickly said no thanks.
