I like CalPreps because it's a computer system with no human bias (except maybe skewed towards Cali teams in their national rankings). It doesn't care how big a school is, just who they beat and how good they are. That's the major flaw in the MPSSAA system. Beating McDonogh gives you 1A points because the school is small, even though McDonogh beats almost every 4A school with a running clock.
With that being said here's some notable SOS numbers this year:
McDonogh: 52.8 (Highest in MD)
Fort Hill: 2.5
Seneca Valley (7-1 3A): 2.3
Kent Island (8-0 2A): 2.2
Annapolis (8-0 4A): 1.7
Century (7-1 2A): 0.9
Albert Einstein (6-2 4A): 0
Allegany: -0.1
Elkton (7-1 2A): -1
Large (6-2 2A): -1.4
Douglass (Baltimore City) (6-2 3A): -2.1
Queen Anne's County (7-1 2A): -3.4
Boonsboro (7-1 1A): -4.2
Cambridge-South Dorchester (6-2 1A): -4.2
Middletown (7-1 2A): -5
Havre de Grace (6-1 1A): -5.1
Northern Garrett (7-1 1A): -10.5
Randallstown (7-1 2A): -14.2
Hereford (8-0 2A): -15.9
Overlea (6-2 2A): -18.8
Northwestern (Baltimore City) (6-1 2A): -22.3
Reginald Lewis (8-0 1A): -23.4
Hancock: -35.4 (Lowest in MD)
Also, direct from CalPreps "Rest assured, the process is many times more accurate than the over-simplified points systems that many sections/states are trying as an alternative to the subjectivity of the human process. Systems where, for example, 3 points are given for a win against a large school, 2 points for a win against a medium-sized school, etc. simply can't compare with what we're doing here."
