Talked to the Melbourne CC rep today for an hour. As most know Hurricane Irma just unleashed its devastation on the state of Florida. Melbourne and Brevard County got hit really hard as did most of the state. They just got power back on Wednesday and the kids go back to school Friday. This is their first time back in a week. Many schools in the state won't be back for another week or two or three with no power and water.

The Melbourne CC football game last Friday vs. Archbishop McCarthy was cancelled as is their game set for tomorrow with Kingdom Prep out of Auburndale, which is a Central Florida school west of Tampa near the Lakeland Community. Their entire football field is still underwater. The biggest problems are obviously power is still out, water supplies have been cut, gasoline is extremely limited with highways still jammed. More than half the state evacuated their homes. The Melbourne CC rep I've been dealing with since last spring said the fight for survival has gotten out of hand. Supplies like water, gas and power are being fought over.

Anyway, the football game with Fort Hill is 100% still on. In fact, Melbourne CC cannot afford to miss another game they tell me for many reasons including playoff scenarios. So coming here to play is crucial. Airfare has already been paid. The FHSAA is likely going to adapt new rules due to Hurricane Irma where schools will play 2 games a week when possible to make up for lost games. Melbourne CC is hoping to make up one of their lost games.

Football is irrelevant right now for that state. At the same time the kids involved want some type of season to remember. It's important they get a normal life out of all this to some degree. But being alive was most important obviously. The Melbourne Community is good with that aspect thank god.

My favorite weather guy suggests that another hurricane will likely hit Florida in two weeks. This is shaping up to possibly be like 1881, where 8 hurricanes struck between Texas and Florida during the season.

Glad we didn't have man-made climate change back then or there would have been 30 or more.
