Southern leads Catoctin 10-0 and Northern leads Clear Spring 36-0. I was impressed with Southern when I saw them in the scrimmage at MR. These two teams may battle Alco for the #2 seed in the West Region.

Early on it looks to be a 6 team race for 4 spots. Fort Hill will be #1 seed. Battle will be for #2 seed, at least 1 playoff home game, and the opportunity to avoid Fort Hill in 1st round of playoffs.

Northern, Southern and Francis Scott Key are all 3-0. FSK has a brutal 2nd half schedule. I can see multiple losses for them. That would probably knock them out. Catoctin has a rough stretch Week 6 thru Week 8, see multiple losses for them there, that would put Northern and Southern in the driver's seat. Northern has easier schedule then Southern. But both have to face Alco. If one of them can pull off a victory against the Campers it would almost assuredly give them the 2 seed. Especially if that were to be Northern who does so.

As of right now, I can see Northern being 7-1 going in to week 10. I see Southern possibly being 8-1, the only other team other than Alco they may lose to is East Hardy but I think Southern should win. I doubt Notre Dame or Pendleton will be much of a challenge for SHS. Would be great to see Northern and/or Southern defeat Alco, but given past history it doesn't seem too likely. One thing is certain, that week 10 game should be a good one, and hopefully a good crowd & at least decent weather. Wasn't that long ago Northern & Southern was a battle of 1-8 teams, glad both schools are much improved over those days.

I like the direction of both teams. Shows what coaching and determination by young athletes can do.

Thank god Northern and Southern play Alco. This regional system is so f***ing dumb. MPSSAA leaders should be embarrassed then fired.

I don't advocate that tiny schools be forced to play teams but this week's point standings are a prime example of the problem. Alco has been penalized for playing good comp. I know the Campers will rebound and likely get in but this just ain't right. It only enforces that it's best to avoid good teams when scheduling.

Absolutely true. Alco is mired in the pack. But if ever there were a Camper team that needed the challenge, it is this one.

I can't sum it up any better than that statement. When I continue to complain about this situation it's not meant to knock teams in the region that won't play each other. It's a continued complaint directed at the MPSSAA. No leadership whatsoever from that do-nothing circus.

YOU CANNOT FORCE A REGIONAL SYSTEM IF NO ONE IN THE REGION PLAYS EACH OTHER! Either expand the playoffs or drop the regional format.

This would have been the perfect year for everybody to play everybody. It would have helped both attendance and community.

I believe, but TD will have to confirm, Southern contacted Fort Hill to get the series back up and running but a date could not be worked out. I have always been an advocate for local teams playing each other. Again 5 1A schools ( MR,SHS,NHS,AHS, FHHS) within an hour of each other and I believe Alco is the only team that has all of them on their schedule. I have been told the SHS will have the other 4 schools on their schedule and I hope they do.

I heard the same thing with Southern trying to schedule FH. I applaud Southern for their efforts. I also applaud Mtn. Ridge for playing FH. As for Northern not playing FH, oh boy, where do you start?

it starts and ends with them never getting by fh in the playoffs - if your goal is to get in and then lose to fh every year, congrats!

You are right this would have been the year for it. A better alco and good Garrett county schools too

It's hard to pick the year. Alco pulled the brass ring with Dunbar this year. But, can any school be blamed for not playing Dunbar or FH on a consistent basis.... I don't think so. The system we have forces schools to make the choices they do.

Lag what's up with the change of heart. You ripped FH for having 9 games this summer and for not manning up and playing a nationally ranked team out of Virginia Beach on top of the schedule they already have. And then dogged FH for not paying mega bucks to get them here.

I was thinking the same thing. An awful lot of Fort Hill bashing early this year and now it seems to be subsiding.

I had to read your post and mine a couple times to make sure I understood your frame of reference. I am not really changing my perspective but I do see why you may think that.

As I see it, the system forces schools to make choices depending on what the goal of the school is. If it is just the playoffs, then I think it is not a good choice. My perspective there has not changed.

I could see why schools wouldn't schedule FH on a regular basis regardless of how it would effect the playoffs. If a school could schedule a team more equal to its own. Do it. Why continue to play a team that you know will beat you by 50 points.

Well Lag I don't agree with you often but I do respect that you hang here and defend yourself in an overwhelming FH forum.
