What a gutsy team performance from FH last night. In a game that could have gotten way out of hand early, these kids found a way hang in and right the ship. Going the first 6 minutes without a point, these guys were relentless on defense, on the boards, and fighting for loose balls. Lets face it only Allen and Brown were effective on offense, Seifarth and Burns were non factors offensively, but damn if they didn't keep their heads in the game with great defense, and overall under control floor game. Spencer, Willis, and Palmisano were tenacious defensively, and allowed Burner steal some minutes off the bench when Brown, then Seifarth got in foul trouble. These seven kids balled their asses off last night and wouldn't be denied. Games like this builds team character, and allows you to survive and advance. Good luck to FH moving forward to your ultimate goal. Kudos to the Allegany kids who played their hearts out, never hang your head when you leave it all on the floor. There just might be something a little different about this Sentinel team. TEAM FIRST!!!!

FH has been weird this year. As an example they shot the lights out the previous game against Mtn Ridge. Then the 1st half vs Alco they couldn't hIt squat. There has been a ton of hot or cold shooting with this team. Even from period to period. It's all about runs for most teams. Moreso with FH.

For FH to have any remote shot at winning all the marbles they cannot continue the streaky shooting. To have 0 for 12 shooting stretches like they did to start Alco game won't get them there.

But when they get hot they sizzle. Just inconsistent with it. For some reason shooting consistency is contagious with FH.

Teams at all levels are a little streaky offensively. FH Wins with defense. In their 2 losses, their defense failed them. The first game they just weren't ready to play bball yet, and allowed the kid from Berlin to drop 37 on them. The Alco game I think Thad waited to long to correct some of the match-ups defensively. 73 points were the most FH gave up all year. Fields scored 31. Thad corrected those match-ups the next two meetings. You are correct though, you can't win consistently if you shoot as poorly as they did in the first half last night. That's where defense keeps you in games. It is defense that creates runs, not allowing them to score, and creating offense off of your defense. As poorly as they played offensively in the first half last night, playing tenacious defense, hitting the glass, fighting for loose balls kept them calm, and focused. If you remember, they got a lot of good looks early, shots just didn't fall. FH has a chance if they keep buying in defensively. Even when they don't shoot that well, they usually score enough to win, because their defense gives them so many more opportunities to score. Shooters and scorers aren't created equal. Meaning that sometimes great shooters have off nights, but scorers find a way to get buckets. For instance Mikey is not just a shooter, he is a dynamic scorer as well. FH has a group of athletic dogs who refuse to quit on defense, and that's what wins championships. The late comeback against MR, we remember the shots made, we don't remember what created them. DEFENSE. TEAM DEFENSE is this squads calling card. Just like you said about the football team. The gaudy offensive numbers look good, but it was their defense that carried them through certain stretches. Won't be easy but they have a chance. It's been fun nonetheless. Survive and advance. I was always a fan of Nolan Richardsons 40 minutes of hell Arkansas teams, they were so much fun to watch.

Agree. But the likes of Lake Clifton and Edmondson isn't the same analysis when shooting goes cold.

Absolute truth, but they also aren't accustomed to playing against such aggressive defense. City kids still like the flash and dash of offensive basketball. Hasn't changed since I grew up there in the 60s. Again though you are right, defense or not, you still need to score the basketball to win. Let's get this one today. Worry about the city kids next week. LOL. Hoping for no letdown. Right now FH is the hunted, and Smithsburg is playing on house money.
