The Quote Board is a feature from Maryland Varsity where we quote some of the
top athletes throughout the state on their opponent this week on the football
field. Quotes included are from Calvert Hall vs. Good Counsel, Howard vs.
Reservoir, La Plata vs. Calvert, Suitland vs. Roosevelt, and Lackey vs.
Westlake.
Calvert Hall running back Damien Farmer
Opponent -
Good Counsel
On Good Counsel: “They are pretty good and they are
always pretty good. I think if we play our best football we can compete with
anyone.”
The Good Counsel players: “I played rec football with some of
their guys and I think their quarterback started last season. They got some good
players. It’ll be a good game.”
Keys to a victory: “We have to get the
running game going because we have a good quarterback. We really have to get the
offense going. If we do that, the defense will feed off of the momentum.”
The football season: “We are 2-0 so it is really good and the team is
playing really good. We still got things to improve and we can still get
better.”

Howard athlete Isaiah Stokes
Opponent - Reservoir
On Reservoir: “I believe it is going to be a very good game for us. It’ll be
tough because they have two quarterbacks that’ll give us a hard time. One is
more athletic than the other but they’ll throw a lot. That’ll be a test for our
defensive backs.”
Keys to a win: “The key to that game I’d say is our
defensive line getting to the quarterback. We have to make them fire passes so
our defensive backs can break on the ball and make a few plays.”
The
football season: “So far we have been doing pretty good. Our offense is finally
getting rolling. We played a tough game and came out scoring. The whole team
fought all the way through.”
Areas of improvement: “The whole team can
improve and I’d say we have to continue getting better. Defensively, we have to
make tackles and play our keys.”
...........................................................................................................
La Plata wide receiver Jack Pilkerton
Opponent -
Calvert
On Calvert: “I watched their film from Friday and I think
we can do some serious damage to them. Their defense has a lot of holes that we
can pick at. I think overall we’ll have a really good game on both sides of the
ball.”
Week One: “I think it went pretty great. We played Lackey and they
are one of if not the best team in the conference and we held our own against
them. I feel really good about the outcome even though we didn’t pull off the
W.”
What the team can improve on: “On offense, we need to work on
blocking and make sure we are executing our plays. Defensively we did a really
good job containing their backfield. Our defense was very impressive. Our
offense needs to execute on plays and we’ll be good from there.”
...........................................................................................................
Suitland athlete Tevin Singleton
Opponent -
Roosevelt
On Roosevelt: “They are pretty good. They are a tough
team.”
The Roosevelt players: “No sir. I just know that they are a good
team.”
Keys to a win: “It is to stay disciplined and execute on every
play. We have to do our jobs.”
The football season: “It is going good. We
haven't been at our best but we are working hard.”
Areas of improvement:
“It is to get better in practice. We have to improve at every position.”
Goals for the season: “It is just to get better every day. We are trying to get
into the playoffs.”
...........................................................................................................
Westlake defensive end Malachi Washington
Opponent -
Lackey
On Lackey: “I feel they are good team. I feel if we come out
like we did last week we’ll lose again. We have to come out and punch them in
the mouth as soon as the game starts.”
The Lackey players: “I know they
got a few players that are really good. I feel like that doesn’t mean nothing if
we don’t play as a team. We can’t let down.”
Keys to a victory: “If our
offense comes out and plays good, our defense will play even better. If our
offense plays well, we win. It it doesn’t, we’ll probably lose.”
Week
one: “It didn’t go really well. We lost and I feel we beat ourselves. We got to
work harder in practice. I think some of the players on our team feel like we
needed the loss and it will help make us a better team.”
Areas of
improvement: “I would say the offensive line is what I think. I think our
offense line needs to get better and if they do we can go very far.”
