The Perryville playoff game was the perfect storm. If you recall, Todds mom passed that week and his staff pretty much controlled things. Fort Hill scored on its first possession and was up by 14 getting the ball inside the 10, ready to get that third score. Perryville did have decent DE's and a mountain of a man inside. Once they moved him into the middle, FH's running game came to a stop. Back to the first and goal inside the 10, they wound up with a 4th and goal on about the 6. FH passed on an easy field goal (would have made it a three-score game.) but got stopped short of the endzone. The rest is history as Perryville stormed back in the second half to tie the score and then win it in overtime. I think that I could write a book on this game, but I won't do that here. I will say that I look at that game as a turning point of FH's program. I feel that this game made Todd realize that he needed to start coaching up his assistants as well as his kids, and it didn't take him long before he built his teams to be real powers. BTW, Todd never blamed his staff for that loss, he accepted full responsibility with no excuses. And he took that loss very personally.
