Listen, I know that there has been a lot of controversy surrounding his tenure at Beall/Mtn Ridge, but I for one would like to take the time to publicly thank him for all that he has done for the school. Being the only coach that I have known in my lifetime at my alma mater, it is definitely going to be strange to see someone else (even if it is a current assistant coach) on the sidelines as the head coach next year.

Thank you Roy, and I wish you all the best in your post retirement from coaching stage in your life.

Roy DeVore was my coach at Fort Hill in 1982-83. He was an assistant to head coach Jim Chaney at that time. That's how old I am and how long he has been coaching. I will always remember him as the big man who stood on top of the two-man and seven-man sleds while you tried to drive block it through the FH lower practice field baseball diamond dirt. If you have never had that dirt in your mouth or up your nose, you never played football at Fort Hill. LOL.Which by the way, those sleds the football team use today are the exact same ones we had 35 years ago. The pads are different but the welded metal parts are still the same.

Coach DeVore always had a gentle side to him for being a football coach. At least that is how I felt. He's a good person with a big heart who enjoys helping kids...what more do you need to know? Nothing but good thoughts for Coach DeVore.

I would imagine that it will be Ryan Patterson. Haven't confirmed that yet. But it has long been figured that when Roy left Ryan would take over.

I think that either would do a great job at MR. I thought that as long as Ryan wanted it that it would be his. But I could be wrong on that.

On one hand, Patterson has paid his dues, being a Beall alum and long time assistant. Do MR people think they're just getting more of the same with someone from within though?

I wonder if MR's best move isn't to look for new blood from the outside? What is the MR perspective on this?

I have to admit that this is a bit of a tough one for me. I say that like I am the one that is going to be making the decision.

I think that it all depends on how much reign Ryan had over the past few years. I can tell you that the kids love to play for him.

MR has had issues with numbers in the last several years. How much of that was Roy?

I am almost to the point now where I think new blood would be good. I can't see how they would pass him over though. I think they at least have to give him a shot.

Just curious, what are the rules regarding the head coach? I thought I remember reading something in the past where they had to meet some sort of requirements in order to hold the job?
