BW Hoops 2019-20

In addition to the above schedule BW will also field a Burgundy team that will play several local teams as well as a few other privates from the region.

Overall the main schedule is very challenging, includes games against several nationally ranked teams, they will play 12 games in the area out of the 31 games on their schedule. Not being in a league makes it hard to schedule BCL or WCAC teams as they are locked in to conference play once the Christmas tourneys are done

Did the MPSSAA make a ruling on whether the Burgandy team can play Maryland schools?

Coach Pretes interview on WCBC is online and is a great interview. He speaks about people getting caught up in Wins and Losses. He says their real job is to prepare the kids all around for college not just in basketball but in every aspect and he talks about a few different things, time management, etc. They also mention the players that played at BW last year and are making an impact as freshman in college for example Oliva at Tennessee. Coach Prete says it takes a couple years to build a program, after the first couple years the teams will keep getting better.

From what I can tell the only mpssaa schools the varsity Burgundy team will compete against is Hancock and the Clear Spring XMas tourney, everyone else is out of state or private, I haven't seen or heard anything where a ruling was made but I can't imagine those mpssaa schools would risk having any issues although worst case scenario is probably those games don't count in official records for playoff standings but that really shouldn't matter as everyone makes the playoffs

I heard Alco and FH decided not to play the Burgundy team this season, but I didn't know if that was because of some administrative reason

I don't think any public school is MD is playing BW White, Burgundy or JV other than Hancock.

The Burgundy team opened up with a 85-27 win in the first game of the Broadfording tournament against Highland view Academy. The Burgundy team is made up of underclassmen, but they have good size. Two sophomores 6’6 and a couple others around 6’4, 6’5. They play 2-0 Broadfording in the Championship tonight

Game Time is 8pm tonight. No live stream but will be on the radio. Should be a good first game. Coolidge is a team to beat in DC this year and #2 preseason ranking in the DCIAA.

BW opens up with a 58-44 win, led by 25 at halftime but some turnovers, offensive fouls, and good D from Coolidge made the second half more competitive. Domingus Stevens led the Spartans with 22, next game is Thursday at home against Takoma Academy

BW is a talented squad, they are going to win a lot of games this year. They ran into a little bit of trouble when Jalen had to sit with foul trouble. Stevens is a phenomenal player. He has to control himself on the court. The refs tonight were lenient but sometime this season he's going to deal with refs that aren't so accomodating.

Home Opener is tonight @ 7:30 vs Takoma Academy. Hopefully, there are not any area conflicts and folks can come see the team for the first time in live action.

BW loses to Word of God Academy from North Carolina (the school that John Wall went to), but they played well. Stevens was impressive again. WOG has a really good team and two high D1 players, one of them is going to Michigan next year. They were better athletically than BW, which is notable because BW has some amazing athletes too. Gym was crazy last night. The building was at least 200 over capacity and they still had a long line of people trying to get in. Lucky the fire marshal didn't shut the whole thing down. People were sitting on all the steps, the security eventually gave up trying to keep them clear. College coaches Juwan Howard and Coach K were in attendance

Word of God is a very good team, not a bad loss at all for BW, they will get better but they are showing they can play at a very high level.

this is probably off topic from this thread, how is Mikey Allan doing at Walsh, hope I spelled his name correct.

He's not going to get many minutes this year as a freshman but he's going to learn a lot playing every day against Jalen in practice. He's obviously a player they are looking to build around in the future.

BW played and led WOG for most of the game. I still think the some of the european players at BW are getting still getting used to the physical nature of the US game. Take away some mental mistakes that led to turnovers and you are looking at a nail biter or a win for BW. WOG played PVI close until the end on Sunday so you know they are a good team. I am pretty sure that every coach on the eastern seaboard was in attendance.

One heck of a athelete , not stirring turds, would of been fun to watch him on the Football field this year.
But everyone I talk to, Basketball is his game. Wish him all the luck

Beat a very good Chaminade team that was undefeated going in to the game last night 69-68. BW led by 11 going into the 4th but Chaminade made it interesting. Stevens led the Spartans again but it was more balanced than the first game. BW plays the host De LaSalle Spartans in the title game at 6pm est today

BW fell to De LaSalle in the title game, couldn't stop the 3 or shot really. Good tournament for the Spartans though

BW started out with a 61-31 win over James Island in the Rotary Roundball Classic in Charleston SC they play the winner of Don Bosco Prep and West Ashley tomorrow.

Correction: they play Bartow FL at 4pm Saturday. Bartow is currently ranked number 4 in FL. Will be a good challenge

Current MaxPreps human rankings have BKIT participants Wasatch Academy at #4 and La Lumiere at #10. Also four WCAC teams in the top 20 and St. Frances at #22.

BW gets #3 Oak Hill Friday night in Lexington, VA.

BW has been dealing with some injuries off and on and have been a little inconsistent but they gave a good run at a top 20 Mater Dei in Wheeling last weekend. Would love to see them put it together and get a win against one of these top 25 teams still on the schedule, they will have opportunities in the BKIT and ACIT and of course as said above Oak Hill this week

BW fell to #3 Oak Hill 64-57 tonight. They are right there with everyone they have played just can't quite get over the hump against the top teams yet.

Down by 4 going into the fourth, yes they are playing the best teams in the country tough. Oak Hill has mostly all seniors. BW has a good mix of seniors, juniors, and a few sophomore and freshman. Coach Prete is doing well for only his second year, he said it would take a few more than that to build a program and start making large strides.

Interesting change at the ACIT 2020 tournament in March. They will have non-catholic schools for the first time ever. So far St. Stephens/St. Agnes, the #5 team from DC, is coming. Currently four WCAC schools: DeMatha, St. John's, PVI and Gonzaga are ranked #1 through #4, and St. Stephens is #5. There's also a persistent rumor that IMG Academy is coming too. But even without IMG, assuming they add the top B-More schools this will easily be the most talented ACIT in history

BW has a sophomore Travis Roberts a 6’5 shooting guard who is coming in and is going be a big time player. He had 12 points and 5 rebounds against Oak hill

IMG is already committed to play in the Saint James Invitational in Hagerstown next month. However, some info in Mike Burke's column:

“Ideally, we’d like to have three D.C., three at-large, Baltimore and Bishop Walsh. But if four teams from D.C. are in the top 25, that’s as good as you can do. Which ain’t too shabby. But we’ll see.”

In the most recent ESPN top 25, DeMatha is ranked No. 5, St. John’s College No. 8, Paul VI No. 13, and Gonzaga No. 22. From Baltimore, St. Frances of the Baltimore Catholic League is No. 10 and Baltimore Poly of the MPSSAA is No. 24.

Regionally, St. Frances is the No. 1-ranked team in Baltimore, while in Washington the rankings run DeMatha (11-2), St. John’s (14-2), Paul VI (9-3), Gonzaga (11-4) and St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes, one through five respectively.

Currently, the ACIT has been following a team from New York and one from South Carolina, according to Carter.

Either way, the change definitely makes the 60th one of the most talented ever and there is a possibility of 5 top 25 teams...no other tournament in the country has a 3-game line up where teams have to beat a top #25 team back-to-back-to-back to win a championship...at least not that I have seen.

St. Stephen's/St. Agnes is probably the best non-WCAC team in the DC area at the moment and they are fun to watch.

Westtown School from PA would be a nice addition if they're willing to take a majority-boarding school.

Great tournament in Cumberland this weekend, 2 top 25 teams. Both BW teams the burgundy and white are both participating which is cool. BW Stevens put on a show tonight with 20 points/ 6 three pointers in the first half.

Games are all on monumental sports if you can't make it to ACM this weekend

BW will be playing Dematha Game 1 of the ACIT.. They could have gave them a better draw and set the brackets in favor of BW lol

The draw sets up BW to have a good chance of winning two game this year but year going up against another top 25 team in DeMatha in the first game isn't the most favorable matchup.
