What will change in a year?

I'm not a believer that Class 1A and Class 1A/2A are super poor. 1A ball has always been 1A ball competition. It's more a matter of FH and Dunbar being an anomaly to the system. Enrollments are the indicator but don't seem to apply to either of these schools the past 15 years in regards to winning consistency. Both are just miles ahead of their classmates.

There is a super good chance both FH and Dunbar win their 4th straight state titles this season, a feat that's only been done twice before. From what I see on the field, FH is going to be a favorite to win a state title the next 3-4 years in a row. Not because FH is invincible, but they are really a strong 3A program playing against 1A competition.

If anyone in 1A is going to take a title away from FH it probably would be best to do so this season based on how extremely young the Sentinels are on the depth chart. It's not unfathomable for FH to lose 3 or so regular season games this year but still be the favorites in the post season. Not sure how good Cambridge-SD is this year. They seem like the team to push the title envelope at this early phase. Only time will tell.

Dunbar and FH should play Week 2 every year. Despite Dunbar holding a big edge in the series, with the exception of maybe 2 match ups the games have been as close as they could be coming down to one or two plays. This rivalry can be as good as it gets.
So true. Anytime you have a 1 score game it’s an extremely competitive game. This coaching staff does a great job at getting the most from its players. Without the pick six this was a 1 score game too. I don’t think any reasonable Fort Hill fan expected that this year. I really hope we can continue the series also.

Alco/Ridge

Alco will use clock, there offensive line isn’t horrible, defense is alright. I don’t know much about Ridge. Right now I would blindly put Ridge better than average 1A team. Alco below the bottom half in 1A. Resh and the freshman Bible will both get a lot of carries. I will say Ridge by more than 30 … 27-0. After this week Alco will win 5 straight and go into homecoming with momentum with 2 fairly fresh running backs.

No, I was referring to Oakdale, not Alco. I think that once Alco gets healthy, they'll be all right. They will not be the Alco of old, but they're coming along. On the other hand, Oakdale has the talent to be a much better team. In watching them, they reminded me of the old Jefferson teams. Plenty of talent, but couldn't put it together on the field. IMO the actual game was closer than what the score indicated. In the future, I'll have to watch how I phrase things.
Apologies, I was joking. I knew exactly what you meant. Just kind of having a laugh about the fact it's mentioned that Oakdale wasn't a very good team but they won 29-6....imagine how bad the other team must be. Anybody can be better after injuries or with more experience but I'm sure the Oakdale side would say they are going to be better too.

I can't imagine trying to explain emojis and their application in written correspondence to my grandfather. Well pap, remember when your daughters wasted money on stickers growing up? It's amazing actually. Some grown men choose to communicate in the same fashion your daughters did when they were children. Do you remember those pages of stickers they begged you to buy from Town and Country? They'd put clouds, rainbows, unicorns, stars on notebooks and everything else wouldn't they?? So, in the year 2024, grown men do basically the same thing....and often Yes sir, I know it sounds strange, but yes, they paste stickers with faces so others understand their feelings/emotions on a subject. Correct pap, times have really changed. I understand you guys didn't have time and wouldn't want to play with stickers. I know men didn't share their feelings in your day. I know you didn't have time for crap like that because there was work to do. I know. I'm just explaining how certain men choose to communicate these days. Yeah, anyway, what do you think about the team this year pap?

RB is not in compliance with The Maryland State Public School system, and the truth is they don't have to be. But the State will never sanction a public school playing them in a regular season game. However, if they really want to get on the field with FH, there is this event called the Quad Four. Every year Todd does his best to get the top teams to come here. It's a great day and you see a lot of football. Maybe the HC at RB would want to contact him about participating. They would get to match up some very good talent. Personally, I'd like to see RB to see if they are truly a State powerhouse or just a one-year wonder.

I agree, let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater. Our line was outplayed on both sides of the ball Friday night. I watched Dunbar in their week one game, and I didn't think that we'd see many passes. I was wrong, but so were a lot of us. Their line was bigger, stronger, faster and more athletic than ours. We started out moving the ball, but they made an adjustment, and we had no counter punch to give. Fort Hill uses assignment blocking, relying on angles etc... The problem is that if you have the horses, you can scheme against the offense. This happened. Too many times on Friday, assignments were missed, or the linemen were confused. This led to plays being blown up. Now some of this was due to being mismatched and some was because of youth. With all this said it was still a good game, Fort Hill will again have a chance to beat Dunbar, but they will have to be almost perfect. For the rest of the talk about who is or is not on the field, that's for the coaches. I trust them, after all, they are on the field with them every day. (BTW, I still think that they are a pretty darn good group of coaches, they just met a great group called the Dunbar coaching staff.)

But now it's time to focus on the rest of the schedule. They still have Hollidaysburg, Briar Woods, and EWOI to line up against. None of those teams are going to be" give me" games!
A great voice of reason.

I stated last week before the game...7 sophomore starters is not the team you want to put up against Dunbar any season.

Still feel last year's FH team would have beaten just about any public school in the state outside of the 3A/4A or 4A champion. Felt the 2018 team would have beaten Dunbar but they lost to Douglass. Can't seem to catch the Poets on the better years it seems.

Would rather have played this game and lost however than not played it at all. I would be in favor of playing this game for another 4-6 season contract. Everyone makes the playoffs.

Also would like to see any Frederick County team pick up FH next year. Need a game to replace Briar Woods (they are now full next season with district games) and the team from NY. But no one in Frederick County will play FH. Not Oakdale, Linganore, Urbana, Middletown, Walkersville, etc. Not even when we have the same open dates. The beat down FH put on Oakdale both years pretty much sealed that fate. It is what it is.

What will change in a year?

Here’s what changes. The Fort Hill team of 2023 beats this Fort Hill team by four touchdowns minimum and most likely five or six touchdowns if they play a full 4 quarters. If Dunbar would have played Wadsworth last year they would have been blown off the field. Wadsworth had a far superior team and passing attack then what Dunbar displayed.. The Fort Hill team of 2022 beats this team by three touchdowns and most likely much more. Everyone I talked to said Fort Hill would lose three or four games this year.

I know next years team with juniors and seniors will be far superior to this years team of juniors and 10 sophomores. Even taking into account the excellent seniors we lose.
It’s easy to blame the coaches, but the coaches looked like they did a phenomenal job coaching the secondary last year. The coaches also looked like they did an incredible job with the quarterback last year. I suspect that everyone was right who said this team needs a lot of work.
I’ve seen you speak very negatively about Fort Hill in the past so here’s the deal.

You can put up $100 and I will put up 200 to bet you.

TAKE THE BET!

You are so right about the QB Brown from last year. I've never seen a player improve from the beginning to the end of the year like he did. Gotta give the coaches some credit for that. And I believe you're right about last year's Wadsworth team. Their QB was a master at directing that offense. I don't know of anyone who thought FH had a realistic chance at beating Dunbar this year, yet there are those who seem to be treating it as some sort of upset.

What will change in a year?

Talk talk talk. Put your money where your mouth is, but you won’t.. Dunbar did not play Fort Hill, any of the last four years. They would have lost every one of those games by a substantial margin. They didn’t play Fort Hill during the Ty Johnson,Barnes era either, they would have lost those games by substantial margin. Also. It’s so easy to talk big on a keyboard.
I already know what you will say when Fort Hill wins next year. You’ll probably say so what Fort Hill won 1 game out of the last four or whatever. People like you are just talkers. When Fort Hill beat Mountain Ridge by one or two points in the State championship that game could have gone either way also. Same with the Dunbar game in 2017 where they won by four points. It could have gone either way. They are not heads and tails better than Fort Hill. This is an inexperienced team that is not near the caliber that Fort Hill has been in the past. Anybody with a brain could watch that game and see it. The quarterback is not up to par yet. The offensive of and defensive lines are not great. The secondary is not good. We are lucky enough to have a great coaching staff, and I believe this team will be very good by the end of the year. The last three Fort Hill teams have been great. Relish in this loss. Who knows you might be able to enjoy the holidaysburg and Briarwoods games also. That was not a great Dunbar team. Unless Fort Hill gets much better in a hurry, they may lose two more.

What will change in a year?

And the 1972 Dolphins would beat this year's dolphin team by a lot. Not sure what your point is, but can you answers I posed to you in my post. Dunbar didn't change anything offensively to beat FH. But FH did. That should speak volumes to you. Furthermore, I saw quite a few FH players holding their arms and shoulders coming off the field. Unless FH can out run, be more athletic and more physical, the result will likely be the same.

The over reactions to this game are funny. This team was wayyy too young to take on a team with as much experience back as Dunbar. Dunbar did stack the box and yet FH still ran for just shy of 200 yds. Yes, the passing game needs work, but with a new QB, new OL, what did some of you expect? It's only the second game. Poets have won 39 straight now and FH held them to under 100 yds rushing. They've beaten a lot of schools not just Fort Hill. I think overall FH played better than I thought they would. It was the three turnovers that beat Fort Hill and Dunbar had the team to take advantage of them.

The goal again is to win the 1A Championship. BECAUSE THEY ARE A 1A SCHOOL. They still have the team to do that. I know people on other boards put too much emphasis on polls. Some of you seem to be caught up in how they look against bigger schools. That's not the point and it's not going to win them a championship in their classification.
Well said
