Great news for parents and a handful of football fans. The state upgraded their attendance policy to now include 10% of stadium capacity not counting participants on the field. That should open up about 600 seats for people in Greenway.

Governor Hogan Announces Updated Safe Capacity Limits For Outdoor Sporting Venues
Venues Limited to 10% of Capacity, Including M&T Bank Stadium and FedEx Field
ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan and Maryland Secretary of Health Robert Neall today issued orders updating safe capacity limits for outdoor sporting and entertainment venues, while maintaining face covering requirements and strict public health protocols.
“With our key health metrics low and stable, we are taking steps to allow more spectators, including fans of the Baltimore Ravens and the Washington Football Team, to safely attend games in the stands,” said Governor Hogan. “It remains important to continue following all of the mitigation measures and public health protocols that keep us safe, including wearing masks and practicing physical distancing.”
OUTDOOR SPORTING VENUES. The governor's order limits spectators at outdoor sporting venues to 10% of total capacity, including at M&T Bank Stadium and FedEx Field.
OUTDOOR ENTERTAINMENT VENUES. The governor's order limits occupancy to 10% for outdoor entertainment venues that have a total capacity greater than 2,500.
FACE COVERINGS AND PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS. The governor’s order requires face coverings at all outdoor sporting and entertainment venues. Under the health secretary’s order, venues must follow social distancing protocols, and social gatherings at the venue—such as tailgating—are prohibited.

Are tickets going to be first come first serve or will parents get first crack followed by season ticket holders

No ticket sales or season tickets. Only immediate family list that each player must turn in. Much like Frankfort has been doing. I can certainly provide a list of people not to let in, LOL.

Interesting. What are they gonna do, check IDs??

I don't know the exact process. Not even sure the schools know yet. I know at Frankfort the players turn in the immediate family members before the first game and they check them off as they come in each week. So yes they needed an ID.

The total cap for Greenway is 609. The total for Mountain Ridge is 400. People on the field (participants such as players, coaches, cheerleaders, band, officials, etc.) do not count towards that total, which is good.

Includes cheerleaders, flag, band, etc. every participant was listed along with player.

The two tickets will be made available to every participant including players, coaches, cheerleaders, band, dance squad, color guard.

If I read the ACPS release correctly - Two tickets guaranteed per participant, but up to 4 can be purchased if enough tix are left. And then the rest to the public, with a max of 4 for any one purchase. Very loose math estimates in my head, I'd say about 250-300 tickets may be available for the "public". That's with every participant and coach claiming their two tickets, and half of those getting 2 extra.

If both teams average 3 tickets per participant and brings the bands, cheerleaders, etc. I don't know if that's going to leave that many open. Also, how many players who only need two tickets will end up getting all four, then give the extra two to another player who has a bigger family? I gotta think that's going to happen a decent bit.

I'm looking to adopt one football player from FH and one from Alco. I can offer a warm bed, good food, a hot tub, a sauna, and a pool in the summer. A couple tickets each week will do wonders for your allowance!

I was told the JV game FH vs Northern it’s two tickets per participant and none for sale for general admission.

You know it's been a number of years of poor attendance with all kinds of explanations. I wonder if people will realize what a true gift Cumberland football is now that they haven't had it for a season. It would be nice for people to return next fall in larger numbers if nothing else just to show all participants they are part of their community and they appreciate them.

Regardless of how many tickets who or whom gets, the bottom line is; if the fans do not wear masks and social distance, the "MASK POLICE" will find a way to shut it all down. So for all you parents and even fans plan to go to these game, get with the program and mask up. The health department is lurking on the edges to pull the plug on one of these teams that will ruin what we have accomplished so far. So PLEASE, do what you know will be the right thing even though you may or may not like it. Remember...its about the kids and their sports. So lets support them! ;)

When I live in the states (I spend half the year plus overseas now in non-COVID times) I live in the South for obvious reasons. The local school I support just finished up their home schedule, which began in August, with no attendance cap and maybe 5-10% of fans wearing masks. They did mark off every other row of bleacher seating at the start of the year but that didn't last until homecoming. So far (knock on wood) the school has had 3 COVID cases total and none attributed to community spread within the school. One was a football player and they didn't pause practice for a day.

Some other schools were limiting visiting ticket sales to 4 per participant on the visiting side or banning cheerleaders/bands from attending.

I didn't necessarily feel this way in August, but starting the season about on regular time was the right thing to do. I'm much more pessimistic about basketball season getting played all the way through than I am about football at this point

All fear in Maryland is based on "what if" not what actually has already occurred. They play sports football included 5 minutes south of Cumberland in WV. They play sports 30 minutes north in PA. They play pee wee football (grades 1-6) in Allegany County, MD and now Youth Football (grades 7-8) in Allegany County, MD as they are both private leagues not affiliated with the school system. But they don't want high school sports done here despite the fact it's been going on all around us since September with no further spread of COVID due to athletics. People today will only see what they want to see.

Now the fight over tickets is about to get ridiculous as to who deserves one. The fight for selfishness COVID has created rolls on.

I'm not saying you're right or wrong but what are you basing this statement on? At face value...WV rates are increasing. Allegany County's rates have jumped to the highest increase since April, perhaps coincidentally at the same time schools have opened back upand athletics are going on. Just wondering what that statement is based on.

Like I said if one looks at what's going on, it doesn't seem to jive. Are the increases unrelated?

You're wasting your time. Reality doesn't matter in Trump universe.. Grandpa is hospitalized but at least little Johnny got to play pee wee football..Speaking of other states...🤦‍♀️

But WV, PA, Pee Wee have been playing football since late August. It's now late October and the rates just started gone up (as well in most of the country). Students in Allegany County only have Pre-K, 1st and 2nd grade in the classroom. If you look at the age breakdown of county positives the past two weeks they don't reflect such. How this virus spreads is not open for interpretation. I know ZERO people under the age of 50 have died in Allegany County. And me being a grandpa, I am the person who has to have the kids home all day doing virtual study with the grandma because the parents work.

What people can't grasp...the NFL is the kingdom of COVID protocol. Players/coaches/staff get tested daily. No one can enter a NFL facility without a tracer wristband. Yet they still have an unusual amount of positives. There is no safe protocol for an airborne virus.

Not sure why any of us waste our time trying to prove anything. Some people just want to lock down children and others don't. As long as the casino stays open and the brew pub, adults are fine.

At least we don't have to listen to you chime in the next 8 weeks on Little Johnny playing football, so that that's a plus.

Yeah I'll be busy doing grown up things like making 65k in profit the next few weeks. I won't have time to vicariously live my life through a bunch of 8 yr. olds.

8 year olds are finished and my grandsons loved it. Next 8 weeks are for the high school kids. It will be a delight not having to read through your FH tears. Good riddance!

You don't have to worry about my "FH tears". You cried enough for everyone over your lemonade stand..

You've got to get away from this assumption that if kids under 10 aren't positive, that schools and kids activities aren't aiding in the increased spread. Kids can still carry and spread this virus without being positive- this has never been strictly an issue of kids dying, inasmuch as them carrying and spreading. . Were seeing all age groups being affected. It's no coincidence that the rates have skyrocketed all over the country almost in lock step with schools reopening. Rates have been surging in states with the least restrictive measures since early September. MD started a little later and our rates have reflected that.

When you made the comment that covid spikes were unrelated to athletics, I thought maybe you had read that somewhere. If it's an assumption, it doesn't reflect the rate changes. But neither of us will convince each other of anything.

I would agree with you on assumptions but only if you apply that as a two way street. I can't make the assumption that schools have nothing to do with spikes much that same that you can't make the assumption they do. This is an airborne virus and I believe adults can spread it at work or while shopping as much as children can spread it in school.

It's much the same as the super spreader protests that went on after Memorial Day. 2-3 weeks later and there was a super surge in cases. But the mainstream did all it could to prove the protests had nothing to do with the spread. Also much the same as in March and April when the mass exodus from New York was in full force, many felt that had nothing to do with the spread. I guess people see what they want to see. None of it makes sense because COVID safety does not exist anywhere, not even in the NFL bubble.

My contention has always been...if the casino, the brew pub concert, airports, protests, Gay Pride parades, Trump rallies, beachgoers, vacationers, etc., etc., etc. can continue then kids can play sports and go to school. To say that is not safe but the other things are is borderline insanity.

FINALLY SOMEONE HAS SAID IT!!!!!
I have done my best to respect the diverse opinions regarding COVID-19 over these past few months, however the ER nurse that posted this brilliantly sums up my train of thought :
Please just take politics out of it and read this with an open mind using common sense.
"Anyone out there who can tell me what our end game is with the covid 19?
What is the magic formula that is going to allow us to sound the all clear?
Is it zero cases?
The only way that will happen is if we just stop testing and stop reporting.
Is it a vaccine?
It took 25 years for a chicken pox vaccine to be developed.
The smallpox inoculation was discovered in 1796 the last known natural case was in 1977.
We have a flu vaccine that is only 40 to 60% effective and less than half of the US population choose to get one, and roughly 20,000 Americans will die of the flu or flu complications.
Oh, you'll mandate it, like other vaccines are mandated in order to attend school, travel to some foreign countries, etc.
We already have a growing number of anti vaxxers refusing proven, tested, well known vaccines that have been administered for decades but aren’t necessarily safe!
Do you really think people will flock to get a fast tracked, quickly tested vaccine, whose long term side effects and overall efficacy are anyone's best guess?
How long are we going to cancel and postpone and reconsider?
You aren't doing in person school until second quarter?
What if October's numbers are the same as August's?
You moved football to spring?
What if next March is worse than this one was?
When do we decide quality of life outweighs the risks?
I understand Covid can be deadly or very dangerous for SOME people, but so are strawberries and so is shellfish.
We take risks multiple times a day without a second thought.
We know driving a car can be dangerous, we don't leave it in the garage. Many speed and don't wear seat belts.
We know the dangers of smoking, drinking and eating fried foods, we do it anyway.
Is hugging Grandma really more dangerous than rush hour on the freeway?
Is going out with friends after work more risky than 4 day old gas station sushi?
Or operating a chainsaw?
When and how did we so quickly lose our free will and give up our liberty?
Is there a waiver somewhere I can sign that says, "I understand the risks, but I choose a life with Hugs and Smiles, and the State Fair and go to Church and go hug my Mom in her retirement home?
I understand that there is a minuscule possibility I could die, but I will most likely end up feeling like crap for a few days.
I understand I could possibly pass it to someone else, if I'm not careful, but I can pass any virus onto someone else.
I'm struggling to see where or how this ends.
We either get busy living or we get busy dying.
When God decides it's your time, you don't get any mulligans, so I guess I would rather spend my time enjoying it and living in the moment and not worrying about what ifs and maybes, and I bet I'm not the only one.
