The may lose most of them, but damn!

Those kids will definitely get some great experiences. Coach McLeod at Silver Oak is one of my favorite HS coaches. Talk about a guy who coaches for all the right reasons.

When I used to ref 7-on-7 the Silver Oak kids always impressed me. Never argued calls, always "Yes Sir" and "No Sir." That's all thanks to the culture Coach McLeod has established there.

He's a big part of the reason why kids who go through Silver Oak are far less likely to be re-convicted than those who go to state owned juvenile schools.

Do you have the numbers on the recidivism rate of SOA compared to other programs? SOA is a very good program from my experience and offers so much more than state run facilities. That's why it costs taxpayers thousands of dollars per month for a juvenile to be committed there. However, to just "say far less likely" is just "saying far less likely." Kids have more skills and are more equipped if they complete the SOA but from my experience they recidivate. It may only take just a little longer before they fall back into their habits that put them in SOA in the first place.

I give the program great credit for what they do accomplish. Especially given that they have yearly turnover of the entire team. There may have been a few kids play two years there but I do not know of any personally. They usually graduate the program before there is that opportunity. But for the program to field a new team every year and teach many kids with authority problems whom never played organized football before is impressive. These kids are truly trained for success by the education, job skills and social skills taught there; however, they allow their home environments to eventually takeover because they return to the same parents or guardians. It's really sad because the programming they receive is top notch and the program does what it can to follow-up with these kids in the community more so than any other program.

Per this Sun article the three-year rates at SOA are comparable so far but only 2 of the 57 who graduated in 2015 had be rearrested when that article was written in mid-2016

Not true. I cannot ever say any names but I personally know two that's been rearrested in the last year and I certainly don't think I know the only two that have reoffended. Plus the story is from the Baltimore Sun so it's already suspect.

Nonetheless, it is still a good program for the high level delinquent kids they accept and gives kids the skills to do well.
