According to family, former Allegany Football Star Shannon Stevens (AKA Grover) has passed away. Grover's struggles and shortcomings are well documented, no doubt this will dominate the discussion of his passing around town. What cannot be argued, however, is that Stevens was truly one of the most talented football players ever to come out of Cumberland. You don't go from Cumberland to the SEC, playing for the Georgia Bulldogs, unless you are a rare talent. Physical Domination was his game. From a simple football perspective, "what might have been" was often discussed. Condolences are extended to his friends and family.

He had his problems, but he was also a really good guy, and as you noted, one of the best football talents to ever come out of Cumberland #RIPGrover

Proof there is more to making it in life than talent. Some kids are not cut out to make it in college for dozens of reasons. I never sensed Shannon regretted anything however. Could have played in the NFL. He was that good.

Grew up around that man and played sports with him from pee wee league up to high school and without a doubt, in my opinion one of the best players I have ever seen if not The Best!! R.I.P. my man!
