It's no secret that Baltimore's Dunbar built football and basketball dynasties by attracting the best and brightest aspiring young medical minds to their humble little school on Orleans Street in Charm City. Let me be more specific, it's no secret that Dunbar took the best and most athletically gifted football and basketball players in Baltimore City and turned them into aspiring health professionals so they would qualify for entrance into Dunbar. Hey, if Tavon Austin had blown a knee and had his college and NFL career cut short, word out of East Baltimore is that he may have been the most naturally gifted Phlebotomist the world has ever seen as apparently nobody could work a needle and syringe like Tavon (little known fact), but I digress.

Impressed by the manner in which Dunbar took advantage of open enrollment and specialized career-track policies to attract Baltimore City's biggest, strongest and fastest kids in an effort to build sports powerhouses, Allegany County Board of Education officials devised a similar plan of their own. These officials, sick and tired of seeing Dunbar stealing state championships away from Fort Hill and Allegany, devised a plan to utilize the Allegany Career and Technical Center to openly recruit the biggest, strongest, and fastest kids in Allegany County (from Little Orleans to Westernport) to the newly formed Career Center Football team. Already stacked with some of the biggest and strongest kids from the more rural parts of Allegany County, the Career Center had a mammoth offensive and defensive line on the first day of practice but what was clearly missing was a lack of talent at the skilled positions, and not just talent at these skilled positions but experience at playing football. Upon realizing this, newly hired coach Bill Cowher (not the Steelers ex-coach but rather Bill Cowher the substitute teacher from Twiggtown) realized immediately he had to attract the likes of Ty Johnson, Alex Barnes, the Brothers Robinette and Rashawn Johnson to the Career Center for football. It took some convincing, but utilizing the marketing and advertising skills of Joe Caporale and some of the best salesman in the County, Cowher and his assistants convinced Ty Johnson to come to the Career Center for Welding, Alex Barnes to come as a Brick Layer in Masonry, the Brothers Robinette to take up Culinary and Rashawn Johnson Auto Tech. With all the pieces now in place, Cowher and his assistant Jimmy Johnson (not the ex Cowboys Coach, but the retired Kelly Springfield Tire Builder from Sperry Terrace) built a team the likes of which Allegany County had never seen. Blazing through the first few weeks of competition like they were playing local Pee Wee squads, the Career Center boys readied for their big matchup with Paw Paw.

Paw Paw, coming off big wins against the Western Maryland Stags and Martinsburg, were somewhat concerned upon scouting the Career Center squad and worried about whether their "Vaunted Tunnel Defense" could handle the offensive firepower the backfield of Johnson and Johnson, the Brothers Robinette and Barnes could produce. Sensing concern both from within the program and in the Paw Paw community that a loss was forthcoming, Paw Paw Booster Club President and Chief Executive Officer Dwight Delawder teamed with Athletic Director Delmer Delawder and acting Head Coach Doyle Delawder to re-hire their recently fired Head Coach Tim Refosco (Jim Refosco's lesser known half brother). The team of Delawder, Delawder and Delawder told Refosco they were willing to rehire him and at double the salary but that he better come to the table with a special plan on how to defeat this impressive Career Center squad. After some deep thought and heavy study, Tim Refosco decided that the only way to beat the Career Center boys was to match them point for point, not so much worry about slowing them down or stopping them (which was impossible even with the "Vaunted Tunnel Defense") but producing enough firepower of their own to outscore the boys from McMullen Highway.

Eureka.....he found it, or rather invented it, a new offense the likes of which nobody had seen before. Knowing that his better known half brother Jim Refosco was known for bringing the then revolutionary Wing T to Allegany and Cumberand area football with great fanfare and success, Tim Refosco invented a new offense to cater to the strengths of all-world Josh Delawder known as the "Wing Delawder" or the "Wing D" for short. Just as the Wing T is routed in misdirection with opposing defenses not knowing where the ball is, the Wing D utilized misdirection in an effort to confuse opponents as to which Delawder had the ball. It was pure genius, and so on a windy Saturday afternoon at Dale Delawder Memorial Field in Paw Paw, the mighty Pirates defeated the Allegany County Career and Technical Center 99-98 in an offensive showcase for the ages. Josh Delawder rushed for 387 yards and 6 touchdowns, threw for another 299 yards and 5 touchdowns, and had 17 rebounds, 23 assists and went a perfect 16 for 16 from the free throw line to lead the Pirates. Ty Johnson led the Career Center with 434 yards on 4 carries while Kirk Robinette had 41 tackles and Alex Barnes knocked out 7 Delawders in the hard fought affair. Next up for Paw Paw, the Cumberland Area Maryland Terrapin Recruits Ty Johnson and Gage Shaffer coached by Joe Theisman at Paw Paw.
