I'm not 100% about this but looking at the MPSSAA site it says News Channel 8 is going to carry the HS State Championship games. If you have Direct-TV, that is on channel 8. I don't think it is on our local cable but if you have Direct-TV you might want to tune in to channel 8 Thursday night to see if the 4A game is on. If it is, set your DVR and record the FH game on Saturday. That way you can go to the game and come home and watch the replay of the FH victory. I also want to see the Dunbar game which will be played Saturday night.

I just scrolled ahead on my guide (Direct TV channel 8) and it does indeed list high school football on Thursday, Friday, and two games Saturday.

Great, I'm setting my DVR to record all 4 games.

I don't think these games will be on Atlantic Broadband in Cumberland unless somehow the local cable company can add this channel for the weekend.

I'm definitely not an expert on this but I'm still perplexed as to how the MPSSAA can dictate the exclusive TV rights to a public school contest? Is it a Stadium issue more than an MPSSAA issue?

It is absolutely a MPSSAA issue. They own the rights to the game. They sanctioned the CW network to provide a live telecast.

We used to do the state game for local cable until they made their deal with CW. Baltimore The first time Fort Hill was in the championship and CW was televising it, there was no local broadcast since Atlantic broadcasts CW DC and not CW Baltimore. In the 11th hour, CW decided to simulcast the game on CW DC rather than allow us to produce and broadcast on Atlantic.

Last year, I made an appeal again to MPSSAA to allow us to televise the game. They told me to contact CW who refused to let us televise the game locally since they hold the rights. Once again, CW had to simulcast the game for Atlantic to show it on some unknown channel "This Network" on channel 100something.

Again this year, I made an appeal to MPSSAA to televise the game and got the same response.

I understand that the downstate teams benefit from a.CW broadcast, especially since they don't get on TV during the regular season. My appeal to MPSSAA is that we televise the home and playoff games all season on local cable and our televising of the championship game in our limited market is no threat to CW or their corporate sponsors. Our announcers know are familiar with the teams and players. Heck, our guys even know that not everybody from western Maryland "looks like Duck Dynasty"

I will try every year to fix this but as of now, we are locked out of the final game.

Anyone know for sure what Atlantic Broadband channel will be showing the final game?

It was channel 153 on Atlantic bb last year, and what was televised never match up with what what listed on the guide. You just had to tune into the channel to see it. However it was listed on the MPSSAA site that it WAS going to be on that particular channel.

This year I found no such info upon their web site. So I guess I'll just look around Thursday and Friday night to see if the other games are playing before the "only one that matters" on Saturday.

Awesome I remember last yr. watching it on atlantic bb but we switched this yr. to direct tv. I searched ahead and it shows HS football on ch.8 sat. 330...

As of now, I don't think any Atlantic Broadband channel is showing the games. They will be on CW Baltimore and News Channel 8 out of DC. Neither of these channels are on Atlantic Broadband. However, News Channel 8 is on Direct-TV, albeit not in Hi-Def.

I watch westerns on ABB channel 153 (ME TV) all the time. On that channel there are mini news segments for News Channel 8 all the time. I never knew (until this thread) where News Channel 8 was from.

Just to add, you can also watch the games on the internet at http://www.nfhsnetwork.com/subscribe/retail. Of course, it will cost you. But it would be less $$$ than going to the game and warmer.
