Just saw that the Texas 6A division 2 Championship game had an attendance of over 46,000! You combine all 4 state championships in MD and you wont even get that. I wish high school football get that much attention here!

Everything is bigger in Texas. Their love of HS football is incomparable to any other state. And if you thought 46,000 was a lot..that was the 6A Div II game...the 5A Div I game had over 54,000!!

However, their 1A finals were a little more normal with about 7,500 fans.

Katy High School has an enrollment of about 3,000. Cedar Hill has 1800.

In 1996 the baseball team was in the State quarter or semi's and lost to the eventual state champion South Hagerstown.

Texas 1A schools are also WAY smaller than MD 1A schools.

1A plays six-man football and is limited to schools with less than 105 students 9-12. It is broken into 2 divisions. Division 2 is for schools with less than 54.5 students 9-12.

Fort Hill and Allegany would be 4A Division 1 schools in Texas. Hancock (smallest football playing public school in MD) would be 2A Division 2.

Cuttoffs (co-ed, 9-12):
6A- 2100+
5A- 1060-2099
4A Division 1- 686-1059
4A Division 2- 465-685
3A Division 1- 315-464
3A Division 2- 220-314
2A Division 1- 158-219
2A Division 2- 105-157
1A Division 1- 55-104
1A Division 2- 54 or less

They had over 8,000 for the 2A Division 2 game (started at 10 AM Texas time) and over 13,000 for the 2A Division 1 game.
