Mountain Ridge is playing in the State Championship game Saturday. Has any local girls team won a state championship. I am thinking Southern they had a couple good years.

Four schools from Allegany and/or Garrett County have won State Championships in Girls Basketball through the years. Southern Garrett has had the most success, winning a total of 4 championships, with all of them coming since 2004. (2004, 2007, 2014, 2018) One thing that I find interesting about their success is that they have had a different head coach for each of their championship seasons.
Allegany won one in the year 2000 as someone mentioned in an earlier post. Mount Savage won the State Championship back in 1977. Westmar won it back in 1990.
All in all, a total of 7 championships have been won by the schools in the two most western part of the state, with Garrett County holding a slight 4 to 3 edge over its counterpart just to the east. A win from Mountain Ridge on Saturday would make it square at 4 a piece.
It will be tough for the Lady Miners. They will be facing defending State Champion Pikesville. Good luck to our Lady Miners. Bring one home for the community.

Pikesville edges Mountain Ridge 38-33. 3rd straight 1A title for Pikesville.
