Fort Hill has completed a 10 game varsity football schedule for 2017. The new opponent to fill the Week 6 opening is Serra Catholic out of McKeesport, PA. See FortHillFootball.net for complete schedule.
The cat kind of slipped out of the bag through MaxPreps two days ago. That was due in part because Serra Catholic updated their schedule with FH on it and on MaxPreps that means it updates the opponent's schedule too. The problem was we did not have a signed contract back yet. So I pulled the game off of MaxPreps and added Paw Paw. Sorry Pirates fans but the Tunnel Defense will not be playing at Donahue Field this year.
On an important note...Alco and FH now share two home dates - Week 4 and Week 6. For FH that is Silver Oak and Serra Catholic. Who plays Friday or Saturday won't be determined until August 23 from my understanding. So for anyone asking is it a Friday game, we won't know until then.
There are so many twists and turns to getting 10 games for FH that I wouldn't even know where to start. On four other occasions since March we agreed to a Week 6 game with multiple schools. All fell through including two that had a signed contract the other team backed out of. The team I spoke of about 3 weeks ago that we had a verbal deal with was a team from Canada that plays American football called St. Joseph's. That game was eventually not approved by the MPSSAA despite this team being approved by OFSAA (Ontario), OHSSA (Ohio) and NJSIAA (New Jersey). To boot St. Joseph's is playing Silver Oak on Aug. 19 and will play Mount St. Joseph here in Baltimore as well as a game with Avalon. Oddly enough, if Silver Oak beats St. Joseph and FH beats Silver Oak...then FH will get the bonus point. Go figure. Without going into 20 pages of explanations, the MPSSAA has determined that ALL Canadian schools have the ability to use fifth year players despite the fact they all meet the national age requirements (cannot turn 19 before July 31). Even though St. Joseph's does not use fifth year players as they are a first year program, the fact they are permitted to do so does not fit the MPSSAA agenda. But Canada is not the US. Their rules are not the exact same for sanctioning and classifying what grade a student is in. I don't care if a kid has played for 7 years, if he meets the age requirements then it should be permitted. Again, no Canadian team is permitted to play a MPSSAA school. None. Great international relations guys, just super. I will expand on this story more later.
