Hats off to the Cougars for dominating Friday night and earning a trip to Annapolis to battle for a State Championship. I remember traveling to Thurmont twice, once when Beall played them towards the end of the program, and once again when Mountain Ridge started up its program, and it was always an amazing atmosphere and it sounds like it was yet again this past Friday night.
I watched this Catoctin team demolish my Mountain Ridge Miners' earlier this year and walked away truly believing that them, along with Dunbar, posed the greatest threats to yet another Fort Hill repeat. They were a complete team then and they just got better as the season went on. You also kind of got a vibe that this team was meant for something special this year. It is going to be a tough task for them to defeat Dunbar but I will be rooting them on come this week.
As far as the Fort Hill side goes... it is extremely hard to play on the road in the playoffs against a good team. I talked to some Fort Hill fans as the season developed, and the common worry was having to go on the road in the semifinal round due to the loss to Cathedral Prep, and that is what ended up biting them in the end. Once things start going against you on the road in the playoffs, against a good team, in a hostile environment, it seems like you are fighting an uphill battle that can't be stopped no matter what you do.
Hats off to the 2019 Fort Hill Sentinels... they were clearly the BEST team in the area. They have nothing to be ashamed off. Looking forward to the 2020 season of area high school football.
