It's official. The rumors were true.

On Saturday night October 14, 2017 a team from the state of Florida will travel to Cumberland, MD to play a varsity football game against Fort Hill High School at Greenway Avenue Stadium. The team is Melbourne Central Catholic out of Melbourne, FL. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.

Melbourne Central Catholic posted an 11-1 record last season and finished ranked 55th in the state of Florida according to MaxPreps. They return most of their starters and that preseason ranking is sure to climb.

The Hustlers advanced to the semifinals in Florida Class 3A last season with an undefeated record before losing to Miami area powerhouse Chaminade-Madonna. The week prior, the Hustlers made national news in defeating Clearwater Central by a record score of 69-62 in 9 overtimes.

The Hustlers are led by 6'2" quarterback Joaquin Collazo, who as a junior last season threw for over 2,000 yards with 26 TD passes in a wide open spread passing attack. Running back Lavonte Valentine (6'2, 190 lbs.) currently has college scholarship offers from Florida, Kentucky, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and USC. On Dec. 30, Valentine set the national record for the fastest time in the 60-meter dash at 6.77 seconds. It was his first time ever running that race.

Head Coach Stacy Sizemore is a former quarterback having played at Southern Miss (behind Brett Favre) and three of his Melbourne CC players currently have offers there including WR Lorenzo Hardy (6'3, 171) and lineman Dermont Morgan (6'5, 260). Cornerback Zamari Walton (6'2, 170) currently has offers from Cincinnati, Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt.

HISTORIC EVENT
This will be the first time in 82 years of Fort Hill Football that a team this far away has flown into Cumberland to play a football game. The contest has been set up for Saturday evening to accommodate fans that normally play their high school games on Friday night. Ticket prices will remain the same at $5 per admission.

A MARYLAND CONNECTION
The Melbourne Central Catholic athletic teams are called the Hustlers. The name came from one of the founding school priests who attended the University of Maryland when former head football coach Tom Nugent in 1962 referred to his offensive specialists as the 'Hustlers'. A University of Maryland Library source explains how the name stuck.

Melbourne is located in Florida on the Atlantic side halfway between Daytona Beach and Fort Lauderdale and situated just a hair south of Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral.

The remainder of the 2017 Fort Hill football schedule will be released at a later time.

Hey BigSavage...this ain't no cupcake! A great goal for Fort Hill to prep for!

Will FH have to take a trip down there next year or is this just a 1 year thing?

I don't know enough about the team to say either way.. I'm sure you don't either other than what's been reported by THelmick... I know Florida is top state for football but so to is Pennsylvania and we all saw how Clearfield turned out after the usual preseason hype job... I guess it remains to be seen, but outside of the usual Florida powers I don't know enough about Florida or the teams they played to form an opinion either way..

So I see they already have 4 kids with D1 offers. Holy crap the SEC article about the running back is insane. He has offers from Florida, LSU, USC, UCLA, Tennessee, etc. and just set the national indoor track record in the 60m at 6 foot 2, 190 lbs. How in the hell do you defend that?

Big savage, in all fairness, PA's top teams are more limited to WPIAL and Philly private schools. Clearfield is neither. Though I will fully agree that they didnt live up to what I thought they would.

I understand that. I'm just simply stating that everyone was hyping Clearfield up like they were a WPIAL or Philly private preseason. Come to find out they were just another paper tiger... Instead of scheduling paper tigers I would like to see the real deal.. Not saying this team isn't the real deal. I simply don't know enough about these Florida teams to say either way. Guess I'll just have to wait and see before I form an opinion...

According to MaxPreps FH's final national ranking was higher than MCC's last season. I think this could be a dandy match-up. Kudos to the Todds for pulling this one together.

Glad this game got done. Always a lot of variables to work out for games like this.

It's no small feat getting a FL team to come up here, FH is the first MD team I know of outside of DeMatha, Gilman and Good Counsel to host a team from FL.

CalPreps early prediction for 2017 has MCC ranked #267 in the US and #25 in Florida. They are ranked behind only 8 MD schools: McDonogh, DeMatha, Wise, Saint Frances, Walkersville, Archbishop Spalding, Damascus and Good Counsel.

They have McDonogh at national #17 and Good Counsel at national #231 to give you an idea of the range those 8 teams cover.

FH is projected as MD #20 and national #905. The early ranking puts heavy wait on D1 players lost/returning and % of offensive/defensive statistical production lost/returning which is why FH is ranked a couple hundred spots lower than they finished 2016.

DAMN! If this is accurate and holds true, Fort Hill is bringing a monster to Greenway Ave. Stadium in October!

This is going to be an interesting game. Don't know anything about Melbourne Central Catholic, despite living here in FL since the late 1970's From the football games I have seen here, the emphasis is on speed. Seems like the last several teams that have come up to Maryland, have cleaned some clocks; let's hope Fort Hill can turn the tables this fall.

maybe eagleinsider knows

what is the overall record of MD teams against FL teams?

Since 2003 (as far back as MaxPreps goes) MD is 14-4 vs. FL but it's all private schools and MD School for the Deaf which has dominated their deaf school opponents over the past two decades.

2003: Maryland School for the Deaf 56, Florida School for the Deaf 0
2004: Maryland School for the Deaf 62, Florida School for the Deaf 0
2005: Maryland School for the Deaf 30, Florida School for the Deaf 18
2011: Good Counsel 24, Manatee 17
2013: Saint Frances 48, Nease 7
2013: Eastern Christian 40, Champagnat Catholic 6
2013: Good Counsel 33, Immokalee 0
2013: DeMatha 26, Amos P. Godby 9
2013: Eastern Christian 36, Madison County 6
2013: Trinity Catholic 21, Calvert Hall 3
2013: Manatee 44, Gilman 14
2014: Maryland School for the Deaf 28, Florida School for the Deaf 23
2015: DeMatha 38, Miami Central 14
2015: DeMatha 23, American Heritage-Plantation 22
2015: Maryland School for the Deaf 52, Florida School for the Deaf 0
2015: IMG Academy 50, Eastern Christian 16
2016: Maryland School for the Deaf 62, Florida School for the Deaf 0
2016: IMG Academy 38, Saint Frances 0

This year there's 3 MD-FL games set in stone and I know there's at least 1 more in the works.
9/8- Bishop Moore at Archbishop Spalding
9/29- Dunbar at IMG Academy Varsity (IMG's JV team, essentially)
10/14- Melbourne Central Catholic at Fort Hill

The 2013 Manatee - Gilman game is the one I remember. Used to follow Manatee, they were a great team, big school, great coaching .... unfortunately that changed four years ago.

I'm going to keep an open mind about this team, but I share Big Savage's skepticism. As he mentioned, you over-hyped the Pittsburgh teams, and you even hyped up Capitol Christian too. Remember they were supposed to be a team "loaded with athletes" lol. Also as previously mentioned, Fort Hill's Max Prep ranking was higher than this teams? Interesting.

I dont remember any of those teams having 4 D-1 offered players at a time. Not sure FH has played anyone with more than 1 or 2 D-1 prospects since the 2008 Dunbar squad. I think it will be a good game.

FYI...Melbourne Central Catholic is a one year deal.

Rumors are that FH was traveling south to return the game. Not true.

All multi year deals but USO and Melbourne CC. So as of now there are 3 holes on the 2018 schedule including Week 6.

Lavonte Valentine was just on NBC Sports Network running in the "Adidas Dream 100 meters" for high schoolers in Boston. He was Florida state champ in his class.

Teams that run the spread usually have pretty good athletes. If it's FL, it's pretty safe to assume there will be athletes. Fort Hill struggles against a spread when there are two things, athletes and coaching. Do we know anything about their coach? Do we know anything about the defense they run. All the athletes and high powered offenses have nothing to do with their defense. If they are used to playing other teams like themselves and don't see the grind it out offense FH runs they could be very unprepared for what they will see. This can cause frustration which can spiral quickly. If FH eats up 5/6/7 minutes on a drive that offense is going to have a hard time getting a rhythm standing on the sideline. This is also where size comes in. If our Oline can get a push and make some holes they can keep the ball long enough to shorten the amount of times their defense has to stop the high powered spread, that makes it much more manageable.
