Final... Mt. Ridge 84 --- Southern 0

Next week Mountain Ridge plays catoctin will be good to see where both schools are at

Southern had 8 turnovers in the first half. They ended the game with 9. Southern fumbled on first series and Mountain Ridge returned it for a TD. Southern's failed fake punt on its next series and MR took over on Rams 13. That was two gift touchdowns and it was 15-0 with less than three minutes gone. Following Southern's only decent drive of the game ended, they needed one play to go 80 yards and it was 22-0. Rams fumbled on next possession and MR recovered in the end zone for another touchdown. Then Mountain Ridge intercepted a pass on Southern's next series and returned it to the Ram 3. That made it 36-0. Another bad snap on a punt and two interceptions on the next three Rams possessions quickly made it 57-0. Southern would add two more turnovers before the half would end. Almost the entire game was played inside of Southern's 30 yard line. The Rams only got on Mountain Ridge's side of the field twice. Once in each half. I felt bad for Southern and their players. Anything that possibly could of gone wrong did.

Mountain Ridge had three turnovers directly turn into touchdowns (recovered fumble in end zone, interception return for touchdown, and recovered fumble returned for touchdown), had a turnover on downs and took over at the Southern 13, had an interception returned to the Southern 3, recovered a botched snap on a punt at the Southern 18, and had another fumble recovery at the Southern 23.

Mountain Ridge's scoring drives were... 12 (fumble recovery return), 13, 80, 0 (fumble recovery in end zone), 3, 18, 25, 46, 28, 23, 90, 35 (interception return for touchdown) yards.

The first quarter took just over an hour. Southern was committed to running its offense and passing the ball. All the incompletions led to many clock stoppages.

thinking time for a coach change? southern has ran the same offense year after year with no advancement besides first round of the playoffs.

Does anyone know what the final score was for the Alco vs. Mtn Ridge JV game on Saturday?

Allegany JV will have a very long year, they have a few sophomores including the qb on varsity with no depth.

Yea, that's what 1A ball is where numbers are low, which is pretty much everyone. Northern has 11 frosh and sophomores on their varsity roster.

Boonsboro beat Catoctin 14-7, I would say it will be a Blowout Next Week
I saw the MR-Boonsboro scrimmage and I also saw the Boonsboro-Catoctin game. I’d say MR is definitely the favorite but I’m not sure it will be a blowout. I think Boonsboro is better than people are giving them credit for. They have some speedy running backs and I thought both of their lines did a great job against bigger Catoctin lines. The Boonsboro secondary is a little shaky, which you saw in the MR scrimmage too, but they made the plays when they needed to.

Catoctin had a pretty good passing game and for some reason, abandoned it in the middle part of the game. They turned the ball over deep in their own territory which led to a Boonsboro score and also failed to score when they had a first and goal at the 1 (Boonsboro forced 2 negative yardage plays and then got an interception in the end zone). If Catoctin gets the passing game going and limits the mistakes, I think they can at least hang with MR.

I think Mountain Ridge has to worry about the good old big head. Being talked about in this fashion isn't something that any Mountain Ridge football team is used to that is for sure. As long as they play good football they should beat Catoctin relatively easily. But they need to not listen to the talk around town and instead listen to the coaching staff this week and each week moving forward.

Careful with the "beat them easily" talk. Y'all will mess around and have a retirement game for your coach like Fort Hill did when they came to town thinking the same way.

For you folks that have been to Catoctin for a game, what is the seating situation at their stadium. Thinking about making the trek down there Friday evening.

There was plenty of seating available last Friday. There is also a section of bleachers closer to the field where the students sit and I would imagine that wouldn't be full on the MR side either.
