I believe the only reason this happened was because of increased scrutiny due to the other scandal at D-Mass. If they wanted to they could hit a lot of schools for this.

7 on 7 is a constant coach/player workout the entire summer. This seems like nit-picking. They should have received maybe a first offense warning - unless this is not a first offense.

They were already on probation for the locker room incident last year and this was an organized, full team practice run by the varsity coaches on a Sunday while spring sports were still going on. That's like at least 3 MPSSAA violations right there. I'd say they probably brought the hammer down more because doing all that while they were already on probation and under increased scrutiny looks like they're thumbing their noses at both Montgomery County Public Schools and the MPSSAA.

Not that I disagree with how this was handled by the MPSSAA, but if they are going to start actually enforcing their own rules, then there are plenty of other things they need to take a hard look at. In my opinion, the new fad of transferring to wherever you please seems to be a good place to start. I know different Counties have different rules regarding this, but in my opinion this has gotten completely out of hand. To me the spirit of high school football is community and we have strayed so far away from that in the name of winning at all costs. Just my 2 cents on this.

I agree. It's like... nobody seems to think of the students missing a game. This isn't college. The school and the coaches cause this crap - well, the system too - and their answer is to punish the students.... wonderful.

The good thing is that the entire system will get scrutiny; the bad thing is that it will not make any difference.

Exactly many teams are practicing in all sports from middle school up. Forfeiting the game only hurts the student players who are being punished, but didn’t make the decision

Yes, it sucks that the kids get one less game, but slapping the coaches on the wrist wasn't going to do any good either. If the MPSSAA reprimands the head coach, gives them a 1 game suspension, it wouldn't do anything to deter them or other programs from doing it again. Head coach hands the reins off for 1 game and gets right back at it, big deal. The MPSSAA, and I would assume Moco, needed to show everyone, not just Damascus, that this stuff isn't ok and well, they certainly made a statement. Say what you will about all schools doing it and the rules being stupid, but until any of that changes, the rules are what the rules are and everyone needs to roll with them. I bet there are plenty of other programs out there that are going to change how they handle the summer and 7v7 because of this. But as I said above, the MPSSAA needs to tread lightly because they cant cherry pick what rules they are going to enforce.

And as for the kids, I have a hard time believing that they all thought a "practice" on a Sunday was legit..........
