So the announcers just took a pretty good jab at the lack of Allegany fans at the game. They said they just don't understand what is going on with all the empty seats, and they were sorry to report this, again. So Allegany fans, what is the reason? Is it apathy, disinterest, waiting for basketball?
I personally don't think FH draws the crowds they should and I have no idea why so I wouldn't even try to guess Alco's issues.

Nice Friday evening, playing Mountain Ridge, last week's performance. Probably a little bit of all of the above.

Something to consider...

Student population in the early 80s was just under 20,000. At that time, there was no pre-K and kindergarten was not county-wide. Student population has steadily declined since that time. Now, the student population is under 9,000, and pre-K and kindergarten are county-wide.

No, no, do not consider anything. Allegany has absolutely no fan support at all. Enough said !

we all can agree on that, i was just curious if anybody really had anything that was something i hadn't heard or thought about.

Mt. Ridge has some big boys. When Karson is running the ball they were running away from him instead of trying to get him lol

I dont think attendance was that bad for an Alco game considering the matchup...

Holy crap. You only had 250 people when you played Dunbar

Hey! Don't forget the band and the FH red-jackets that came to support Alco. Besides, I was there and it looked a few more than that.

Still, if 250 parents show up, that's a chunk of the school.

honestly, medium crowds have become part of the regular season for Allegany and FortHill.. Let's just agree to pack the house for homecoming.

all of the local crowds are down, Allegany's has been down for 10 years and gets worse. The Schools are much smaller nowadays. FH's Home side didn't look very good against Keyser.
When it's not going to be a good game what is the purpose other than if you have a kid or relative playing to go watch 40-50 point blowouts? it's the same way in College Football when many teams play blowout games, the seats are half empty.
I love local football but when the games gonna be over 2 minutes in, there's no point.
There is still a few that never played football or don't have kids that act like it's the biggest thing in the World on Friday nights when there is so many other things to do on the weekend.
Hell at the Allegany Dunbar game this guy was telling me about the tailgating across the street and the super grill and sanipots they would have, I'm like okay. Then he says we are taking the fun bus to Pittsburgh at 6am we will have so much fun, last year we did shot after shot and could barely walk going into the game and he was so proud of that.... me i'm thinking it's High School football and alcohol should not be involved but that's how things have changed over the years.

I like your comments. There are, however, some of us that get to town on a limited basis and like to sit in the stands and enjoy the atmosphere. You know, like... the leaves are changing and it's local football with out the delays and challenges and such. That is why I love attending either and Allegany or a Fort Hill game.

If you support your school and community you go to the game. And who cares if someone is drinking on a bus and having a good time. When FH goes out of town we often meet up with people we know from that area or other FH people and have a few drinks. Some tag along to the game. There is no difference if it is done in restaurant or a bus. It is something to do on a Friday or Saturday night. Plus, I would rather watch a high school football game than go see a movie or a college game. I have been to high school games that are more fun than most NFL games I go to.

Yes, it's a no brainer to attribute loss of attendance to loss of population. But Allegany has never had a real fan base that follows the team around or supports the program after their son or relative graduates. You have this on the FH side with self-centered people but as a whole Allegany suffers from this far more. I remember going to an Alco vs. Keyser game at Greenway in the early 90s and I believe there were about 200 people in attendance. A local game between Alco and Keyser and it was crickets in the stadium. There were more Keyser fans than Alco fans or it was pretty darn close. That was in the early '90s when we had a little larger population than today. Then people complain about paying $5 to watch a game. I saw someone post a pic of a 1946 or '47 Alco ticket on Facebook a while back. The cost of that ticket in today's money with inflation factored in is about $7 or $8 today. It is actually cheaper to buy a ticket in support of a. local high school team in 2017 than it was in the 1940's.

again he said drinking shot after shot and almost couldn't walk into the stadium to a High School Football game.
imagine a drunk that can't walk getting all trashed and going to a high school basketball game in a gym where everyone can hear them. lol
Also drinking on a bus is ILLEGAL the same as in the back seat of a car, Alcohol is Prohibited in public in The State of Maryland and most other states.
I have been to games at WVU and also Cleveland Browns and Ravens and most people handle it well but there is always the drunk idiot, fighting or throwing stuff onto the field or at others in the seats, so glad at Notre Dame they don't allow any alcohol on the property for tailgating anymore and wow the stadium is always sold out and still one of the greatest experiences for any fan.
