Season outlook?

Hey Common Sense, sorry, I'm not on here like I used to be. But yes, I always felt that way, I know that others haven't. Bottom line is that Parents should always have the final choice where their kids are concerned. In Baltimore City there are several good football programs to choose from. Dunbar is special and well ahead of all of them (just looking at the privates). From top to bottom, the staff are all football people, and the parents of the kids are "all in". I've been a Dunbar fan since they played Fort Hill in the title game in Hagerstown several years back. But I'm getting off topic here. Parents have the right to give their kids the best experience as they can. Sometimes transferring works out, sometimes it doesn't. But the choice should always be up to the parents.

Fort Hill vs Dunbar to be featured in Ravens' RISE showdown

Week 1 Dunbar plays Stone Bridge from VA. Stone Bridge beat Briar Woods twice last year by about the same scores as FH
Stone Bridge is a very different team this year, as their long-time & very successful coach that ran the single wing retired last year. They are young and lost their opener, last week, to a good Madison team 17-0.

Fort Hill vs Dunbar to be featured in Ravens' RISE showdown

Stone Bridge's legendary coach retired after last season and they are now coached by former Redskin Kedric Golston, who brought his 4* LB son with him from Gonzaga. Their starting QB from last year transferred and basically all the rest of their skill position players graduated so it will probably take a while for their offense to get going. Dunbar is a big game for them since they are going to have a hard time beating Quince Orchard or Good Counsel.

That's an awfully disappointing opener for Briar Woods considering the amount of talent and experience they have on offense.

Stonebridge lost to James Madison in week one. I’m not sure what to make of it, but it will be an interesting game with Dunbar.
Madison was state runner-up last year in 6A....don't think they have lost a beat. SB was 5A runner-up....seems they have not lost a beat either but we'll see how far off the mark I am on Friday. Good game to go see if you want eyes-on Dunbar before the FH game. SB not far from BW in Ashburn. Of note, SB started out 1-4 last year and still made it to the championship game.

BALTIMORE — The Fort Hill vs Dunbar football game on Friday, Sept. 13 will be featured in the Baltimore Ravens’ RISE High School Football Showdown.

The game will be the third of four high school football games involving Baltimore area teams.

At each of the four games, Ravens players will visit each team pregame and participate in the coin toss.

The Ravens cheerleaders, the mascot Poe and the marching band will also attend.

Both teams will be introduced through a smoke curtain and pyrotechnics.

The teams will also receive a $2,500 donation from the Ravens and Dunkin.

Each game will be streamed live on the Ravens’ YouTube channel, and scores, highlights and a photo gallery will be posted on the Ravens website.

At the end of the season, a play of the year and player of the year will be awarded, and the winners will be recognized at a Ravens home game.

On Saturday, the first two featured games took place.

The first game saw St. Mary’s Ryken defeat Archbishop Curley 41-7.

Ravens receivers Deonte Hardy, a Curley alum, and Tylan Wallace were in attendance.

In the second game, Archbishop Spalding beat Dematha 26-10 with receivers Rashod Bateman and Zay Flowers in attendance.

The Ravens players have not been announced for the Fort Hill vs. Dunbar game, or the fourth game, Oakdale vs Linganore on Friday, Sept. 27.

When the Sentinels meet the Poets at Morgan State, it’ll mark the first regular season meeting between the teams.

They’ve played six times in the state tournament including in five championship games, with Dunbar holding a 5-1 advantage.

The last meeting was the 2017 title game, a 30-26 Poets victory.

FH Quad Recap

I would rather see Morgantown on the schedule. Closer, great game day field, biggest school in WV. They beat Bridgeport last season.
Morgantown beat Parkersburg this weekend and play Bridgeport next weekend, Maddox Twigg who played in the local youth league then went to Morgantown had surgery before the game and won’t be playing for a while. Does anyone know of what happened to him?

My takeaways, I'm in agreement with the OL/DL comments, No offensive holding penalties though. Pass defense looked shaky at times. Because of his offensive prowess, we sometimes forget how much Jabril means to the defense. He can cover opponents best receivers, or step up and stop the run. In his limited time because of the Ross 75 yd run, I think the offense looked smoother with #11 under center. # 8 was serviceable, but I just think #11 gives them a bigger upside. Bender is bigger, faster, and stronger than last year. Liked that Ross was lining up at WR when not in the backfield. He is a weapon at both spots. Every time he shifted, the defense looked like they were going to crap themselves. While the QBs didn't really target him, I think film will show him running wide open on every pattern he ran. He and Bender blocked very well out of the backfield, and it was a Ross downfield block that got Bender into the end zone for the first score. Just one man's opinion.

Todd, thanks for the insight, but I'll put my two cents in. I feel that you were pretty much on the money, except that I felt that the line played inconsistently. I liked the pad level, but they really need to work on their feet and hand fighting. I don't think that I saw any missed assignments which is really good. The line also needs to block ahead of the play, not where a defender is standing prior to the snap. (ie...LBs react, they don't stand in one spot.) The Defense needs to get off on the snap, and again they need to move their feet. They got better as the scrimmage went on but needs work. Looking forward to this year and watch these kids develop.
The line is all sophomores and juniors. Yes, to say it will be massive work in progress would be an understatement. Knowing your assignment has to happen before getting the confidence to explode instead of think.

Agree, the LB were not attacking. Sitting back waiting for the play to come to them 4 yards off the ball. I think I counted like 5 or 6 different LB combinations. Same with the DL. Hard to find consistency when you are rotating young kids to find the ones you want.
