Allegany should’ve opted out

I hope I'm wrong with this assesement but I think the days of parity in high school football are dying. I place no blame on any school, coach or fanbase but rather the value our society places on sports, winning and promoting the "individual" brand.

Teammates, loyalty and attachment to your community/school are gone. We must play where can either win or increase "our owns" chance of success. It happens in every region with your Fort Hills, Bridgeports, Martinsburg's, Fairmont Seniors. Mind you I am not blaming the schools, it is a societal issue.

You take one, two or even three kids from surrounding schools who are impact players and they play for the powerhouse school slowly but surely the other schools have a weaker roster, losses pile up and then the remaining players no longer want to invest their time and energy if they are not winning.

Programs then struggle to survive and some fold. Some of it is indeed coaching but not always. In all of the schools listed above they have been aided from players who moved, transferred or whater they call it nowdays to play for THE TEAM.

There is no team in our area that can provide Fort Hill with a competitive series year in and year out. You might get a good game occasionally but that is not the norm. The same could be said of Martinsburg until the area became so densly poulated that Spring Mills was able to make a move.

I know I will get blasted for this but if we think what this may lead to, in a few years it could change high school football drastically. I know my values are traditional but you also must think about what we are teaching our student athletes and how it will impact them in the game that truly marks their future and that is the game of life.
You aren't alone with this thinking. We may be dinosaurs, but we exist.

Here is the way back:
1. Administration must want a better football program
2. The community wants a better football program
3. Fire anyone involved currently
4. Make football a priority
5. Get kids involved
6. Do what FH and other successful programs do
7. Create a culture of expectations among the administration, coaches, athletes and their families
Not as hard as you think…. Being committed to these things isn’t hard. If it is hard the wrong folks are running it.
Make football a priority? The community wants it??? It is just a sport...an extra activity...other things for kids to do!!!!!

Tristan Ross. Talk about tough luck.

Sounds about right.
Here's an idea. Throw him the quick pitch and tell everybody else to stand still! Don't move, don't block, don't run...let him just run so that the refs can't throw a flag and nobody can do something stupid behind the play that has nothing to do with the play and he gets some credit for the td's that he's earning. These senseless penalties and bad calls combined really must be infuriating for this poor kid!

Spring Mills forfeits 4 games for ineligible player

It's on the TGC forum in WV. And on the WVSSAC records. They are having the best season in school history.

Not sure of the details.
it's a crazy story but a player Transferred in from out of state, The Problem is where he came from he was 19 and got an 11 year old pregnant and was a fugitive from justice.

These players are much better than their coaching staff coaches them to be. When you consistently see defensive players out of position and a complete vanilla nothingness of an offense, that's on coaching. Alco has some size, they have some speed, they have the makings of a decent team. I feel utterly embarrassed for these kids, not of them..but for them.

They have no coaching. There may be some okay coaches on the staff under different leadership but as it stands right now, the entire staff is completely ineffective. I sat on the Alco side this eve with some friends and the fans are done with it all. Hell, the players were too. But what do you expect when your coach goes on the air and says publicly that you're considering opting out. It's inexcusable. The kids deserve better than what they have.
Just to play Devil's Advocate for a second...the Alco program certainly has been a far cry from what it once was prior to 2008. Before Coach Todd Appel took over at FH. But the Campers have had some decent years marred by a Red & White buzz saw that pretty much shreds every 1A opponent. Mtn Ridge just had 3 incredible seasons in a row and still got hammered by FH in two of those seasons both in the regular season and in Annapolis. Granted however, they were never beaten like Alco was tonight. Wow that was hard to watch.

FH just is not a 1A program from a competition standpoint. Take them out of 1A and it's probably Alco vs. Mtn Ridge most years.

From the home county of Bill Hahn, I say AJ Rapp from Tucker County. 30 and 3 the last three years. He might like the challenge Alco would present.

I guess if anyone wants to see a decent game this weekend, there is still time....you have Handley and Sherando tomorrow at noon in the Handley bowl. Both 8-1.
Sherando-handley has the makings of a good one. Some bad blood there. Good teams, good coaches.

Needs gutted and rebuilt from the ground up. I’m 54. I’ll never forget the days when you just didn’t know who was going to win. Those days are long gone.
Do you remember when Hansel was named coach pretty quickly all those years ago? I asked the question of Allegany fans why this happened so quickly, didn't anybody else apply, what was the story. The overwhelming response was "he's been with the program, he knows the kids, they love him, he knows what he's doing, he is the perfect choice, he'll get things going in the right direction immediately".

I hope people don't think I'm an arse for saying what I see, but that first half was the worst Alco varsity performance I have seen in my lifetime. Which probably means in school history. They didn't want to be there mentally or physically at all from the start.

As for the scrum offense with no line splits, no comment. Not that it would have mattered.
Couldn't agree more. It all starts at the top.

How many personal fouls is FH #3 going to get before he learns that it takes no skill to keep your mouth shut? Why is Alkire allowing this? It seems like every game he gets a 15 yard penalty for flapping his jaws.
This is the one thing about this staff I don't get. Alkire is the perfect gentleman, never says anything he shouldn't, handles himself like a true professional. Why would he allow this to continue game after game. Does he think he's helping by allowing it, maybe letting the kid learn thru his mistakes? Maybe somebody who knows a little more about this from the inside could shed some light.

Allegany should’ve opted out

Allegany needs to change direction starting tomorrow! There are better options.

The young men at Allegany know fully well what they signed up for - so good for them. Everything else.... the system and this particular season stinks. It stinks bad.
