FRANKFORT HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS
I got some really messed up info today concerning the plight of Frankfort in this new West Virginia four classification alignment coming down the pike.

So the WVSSAC, the governing body of all high school athletics in West Virginia, has decided to move to four classes as opposed the usual three. Frankfort will wind up being in Class 3A based on their proximity to Cumberland where school enrollment is no longer the deciding factor. Instead the factor becomes how many people live in a certain radius.

Keyser on the other hand will be in Class 2A despite having almost 200 more students than Frankfort because they don't live near Cumberland.

Why would a town population outside the WV state line have anything to do with classification?

I always felt the WVSSAC was far superior to Maryland in athletic policy. Since COVID hit they are far more hideous now. First, declaring state champions based on who didn't forfeit because of COVID was an embarrassment, but this takes the cake.

Hope this news is incorrect because the nature of it all laid on students is hideous.

The current WVSSAC Basketball Classes uses this stupid formula
Enrollment
Distance from county seat
Nothing about area distance
The formula was made out to make all Private Schools play AA or higher, but it didn't work out correctly
Huntington St Joe and Beckley Christian somehow were still in A
The idea was stupid to ever be used
Keyser is AAA
Frankfort is AA
Hampshire is AAA

So those are the basketball classifications? Same for football?

If the enrollment isn't greater
and
same formula is used for 4 class football
It should be the same or very close
But without sections or regions
Of course the cut off numbers per class will change for the new class period
Wouldn't happen till Fall of 2025 when WV reclasses again
