I heard an unconfirmed report of concussion during the game, but in the Times-News this morning Coach Appel was very clear the doctor said it was safe for him to return,

I don't think they have it on the vid. There is a short clip of him in the vid walking a little wobbly on the sideline. As I understand it he lowered his head trying to tackle Robinette and got the worst of it.

There is, however, a clear vid of a FH player coming in late on a tackle with his head down, using his helmet against Robinette's helmet. That did get a penalty. I don't think it is the same incident.

Heard he got hit, not use to that. Appeared his bell was rang. The way he was staggering NFL wouldnt have left him return with precautions taken to head injury.

Ty Johnson got a stinger in the second quarter. And yes you can call it "he got his bell rung." FH coaches/trainers immediately took his helmet and he was obviously not going back in the game. At half time a doctor (yes a real doctor) ran him through whatever it is they do to determine his health and the concussion factors and the doctor cleared Ty in the locker room in front of his own family. Coach Appel made it clear they would not even consider putting him back in a game without a doctor clearance despite Ty asking to go back in. Even after getting a doctor's clearance, FH coaches were not so willing to let him back in the game. So to focus on safety issues, they still held Ty out for the first 6 minutes of the third quarter to see how he would react on the sideline. Then they evaluated him every play as soon as he went in. Ty is fine, looked like himself after the game. He has no past issues with head injury.

If anyone here wants to even hint about taking this thread the direction of "Ty played to win at all costs" I will have it deleted. Ty's health comes first. From a football standpoint, his status for the playoffs was far more important than Homecoming. If there was any risk of further injury he would not have gone back in.

Every coach from pee wee to the NFL is more than well aware of the concussion factor and the liabilities/safety associated with playing sports. That's a good thing. If you are not aware of these concussion factors and what we know today about them then you must live under a rock.

He was on defense and in on a Robinette tackle. Another player came in with a knee to his helmet. He was never ruled with a concussion. He passed those tests.

You're all wrong....everyone knows the Gilmore's invited Ty to the luncheon with the West Side Chinese Immersion Team as a guest speaker.......Ty, like the Chinese kindergartners ingested way too many egg rolls.........MSG poisoning had him a little rattled, they flushed his system at halftime and he was good to go.

First, thank you Todd Helmick. Well said. For the record, I am Ty Johnsons mother and I find it ridiculous that this is even being discussed. Coach Appel would never put Ty in harms way. AND AS HIS MOTHER, I SURE AS HELL WOULD NOT!!! Ty was cleared by a physician. He doesn't have to be a neurologist to run the tests needed to know if it was a concussion. Somebody is always trying to belittle Coach Appel or look for something that isnt there. So do me a favor and leave my son out of your conversation. I've read so much of your drivel for days that its nauseating. Instead of all your negative crap, you should be thanking Ty and Gage for bringing the eyes of a D1 program back to our area!

BOOM. Thank you Mrs. Johnson. Blue Birds just can't stop singing the Blues.

I'm not at liberty to discuss patient information nor would I ever. What I can comment about with 100% certainty starting from number 24 through the entire roster is the love, respect, and genuine care the coaching staff, doctors, medical staff, mothers club, fans has for these young men. Hands down this is a family. That's all I will say. Big Red is all family and that stands out everywhere I go. And as far as 24 goes, I know the head honcho on the hill thinks the sun sets on 24. He's a special young man.

Agreed FortHillFan89, I mentioned too many egg rolls just to make light of the situation, while others adorned in Roual Blue attempt to cast dispersions. Ty is universally recognized as not only a once in a generation talent but also a once in a generation young man. I have only heard positive things about him, both Ty and those around him to include his family and the Fort Hill coaching staff are doing things "the right way."

The young man was the reason Maryland's Head Coach attended Homecoming, it was exciting for everyone.

As the father of a minor athlete myself, I didn't mean for this post to offend anyone. I was asking the question because the paper mentioned "injury" but did not specify further. It's possible the Times-News has a policy about that.

As for this board, I understand we are discussing minors and we have to be careful and sensitive about any personal information, but is there a policy against talking about player injuries here. Please state for the record what is and is not allowed so we will know for future reference.

HIPAA covers all policies about anything medical related. If Ty's mom (and only Ty's mom) wants to disclose or further expound on the injury, that's her call and only hers. If we wish to speculate, that's all we can do.

Far as I'm concerned, this is case closed.

Although there are no threads about the injured Alco player, Eirich - there were comments - I made a couple. That is pretty much sums up the fact that all injuries.... I mean all injuries get commented on in this forum.

More than that, the commercial video clearly shows Ty walking very wobbly on the sideline. As a great competitor, fine young man, and the most talented player to come out of Cumberland in years - it would be a subject of conversation.

Let me stretch this further: It is more than fair to ask the question why he went back in the game. If posts were made that FH felt they had the game in hand and were not running their best offense, why put him back in the game? This has nothing to do with the judgement of a doctor. It is a fair question to ask. It is also fair to discuss what precautions the NFL takes. No more, no less.

Now, let me stretch this even further: Since we are all about injury, where is the discussion about the blatant helmet to helmet on Robinette. It is right on video and got a penalty. Shouldn't that be taken as an opportunity to stress sportsmanship and injuries. I mentioned it twice. I didn't see any posts by 'the-powers-that-be' using it as an example of "health comes first." It is possible that threats and negativity are pretty much reserved for Allegany folks - even to the point of a proper question as to whether Ty should have gone back in the game?

This usual stuff is never ending. It should be a learning experience but never is. Yes, there are some who "live under a rock."

You brought it up several times. No one is biting. Find another fishing hole.

Thanks for the quick, smarmy response which proves my point. Glad you chimed in. Yep! For sure, this thread is all about injury and precaution when it deals with comments rather than an actual incident. Thanks for coming out from under your rock.

Sweetcheeks, I haven't been under a rock. I've been on top of the rock for nearly 14 years on this site. I'm glad you eventually found it, and are now the new Johnny-come-lately who thinks he is far above the intellect and mindset of anyone else here who posts.

Newsflash dude.

You're just a troll. Repeatedly posting the same info over and over. Fishing for people to respond to a topic by asking the same question 5 different ways, when nobody cares to respond. Getting into flame wars with other trolls. You sold out Allegany last year and were riding on FH's jock all the way to the state title game, showing way too much interest in Dekari Darr for a grown man, by the way...and now you are back in the warm snuggly confines of your blue pals, slamming FH and every poster you can.

Seriously, find some new material. It's playoff time. Done with ya, old man.

"showing way too much interest in Dekari Darr for a grown man" - That's pretty low. All it takes is a little reasonable push back from me and we find out that you guys are - at your core - no count and low rent. So, tell me... what is the real problem with you that you need to post a 'pedo inuendo' to me? Do you think that it makes you appear more intellectual? Are you now a man of letters? Or, does it really give a proper reason to dismiss you entirely.

I am just a person who posts what he thinks for or against Allegany and FH. You, on the other hand, show where you live. And, the list is growing around here. Glad you pulled the facade of decency.
