Upset Alert

Catoctin will get a good taste of the Fairmont double wing tonight. It will be interesting.

Outside of the years where Douglass is a good 2A, PG County small ball can't compete with the better small ball teams around the state. That's been proven too many times.

Fairmont Heights over Catoctin. Looking at both schedules on teams played. Gotta give love to Fairmont. Maybe I’m wrong, but they played a tough PG County schedule for a 1A team.
I'm with you, losing to a Douglass team by 6 points is a pretty dam good showing...they won't be intimidated or shocked by anything Catoctin has...i think they win.

I really think it’s going to be a great game also. What about Randallstown and Fort Hill I was shocked they beat Gwynn Park so easily. This could be a really good game too

People are downplaying Catoctin. Their only loss was in OT to Walkersville. They pretty much cruised against everyone else. I remember in 2009 everyone said Alco vs. Joppatowne was the state title game. Not so fast, Joppatowne lost the next week in the state finals to Catoctin 37-12. This is the best Catoctin team since their state championship team 10 years ago. I really believe the winner of FH/Catoctin next week will be state champs. Dunbar is the only other team capable of winning 1A this year.

The Gwynn Park program is down a little bit this year. I don't think FH will have any problem with Randallstown.

Very true. The better PG players are going to the 4A or private schools. It's hard for the smaller schools to retain talent.

True that. Then when you get into the heart of the metro centers it's even crazier. Show me a public school in Baltimore, DC or Pittsburgh that dominates - outside of maybe Dunbar. Pittsburgh is even worse. I think what you said makes a good point as to where this country is in regards to kids transferring and choosing to play for places that breed success. The large population smaller public school athletic option is dead or dying.

Todd on a completely different topic, on my way to tonight's game stopped at Millstone and had my first taste of Paw Paw lemonade. The latest batch. Really really good. Thanks.

It's really bad for DC public schools. DC youth leagues produce really good teams and players. They are always going to Florida to those youth Super Bowls and either winning or doing well. But by the time they get to high school those same players are at Gonzaga, DeMatha, St, John's, PG, Moco or Northern Va schools. There are also a lot of misc. private schools like Bullis, Avalon, Riverdale Baptist, National Christian, etc. that have winning programs and are recruiting kids from public schools
