Thoughts on venue change?

I wasn't able to make it down to Navy, but for those who did, what did you think of the venue change?

$5 for a drink and no free refill, that's the only complaint I have. Just like at M&T, MPSSAA did fail big time by not utilizing the big screens for anything other than the score and ads. I'm not sure how they gets arranged, but it would be a nice thing to see. We got out fairly easily afterwards, but we didn't hang around long after the final horn either.

Overall I think the venue was fantastic, and honestly, I would say 95 % of the Fort Hill people I've talked to agree. Yes, there was an issue exiting the parking lot, that part was more difficult. But all that could have been changed by maybe starting the 1A game at 1:30 or 2:00. Overall though, it was a great success. My only concern moving forward is that you will always have that Navy/Conference Championship issue looming. I mean Navy won't host it every year for sure, heck, they may not host it for another 10 or 15 years, but it is always a possibility.

The venue was fine. Food was overpriced, which is to be expected at a college or NFL stadium. But the selection of food was limited, no french fries? But I wasnt there to eat, so I wont belabor that aspect.

Traffic exiting was a little rough, but not horrible. I would think they would be able to split the parking into different sections so that people aren't coming in at the same time the previous game is letting out, but overall - the change was fine. I much prefer being in Annapolis over Baltimore, in general. Love the city.

I liked the venue. I sat on the 30 and had a great view of the field. I had the same comment on the Jumbo-trons - why were they not being used. I could not hear the announcer, never caught anything he said (sure it was important)

I thought it was a huge improvement over Baltimore. I was there for the Friday night game too and there's going to be problems when you have that many people leaving at once. It was worse after the FH game of course because of the second game.

Words of wisdom to the MPSSAA...bring an extra set of first down markers please. I don't know how many times the officials had to take a 5 minute break to fix the set they were using. I heard this same thing occurred the night before. How hard is it to have another set of chains?

It's the biggest game of these kids lives. I think they deserve to play it on an NFL Field.

There are several states, many of which have a bigger football tradition than MD, that do not play at NFL Stadiums.

Florida- Orlando
New York- Carrier Dome
Pennsylvania- Hershey
Ohio- Ohio State
California-Sacramento State Univ.
Washington-Tacoma Dome
Illinois- University of Illinois
Wisconsin- University of Wisconsin

And yes, I am sure some of those college stadiums are probably better than the NFL stadium(s) in the state. But of all the choices in California they chose Sacramento State???? I guess they subscribed to the state capital theory as well!

the games at Raven's Stadium were EMPTY
These games would be much better played at a smaller stadium like Towson or Morgan st.
WV does it right, the games at Wheeling Island make for an very nice atmosphere.
obtw Greenway Ave Stadium would be the best choice :)

It just looked that way because of how big it is. FH had alot of fans there but it looked empty...

I just think if its suppose to be about the kids. Whats better than playing your High School Championship on a NFL Field? Of coarse its not about the kids, its about the $$$

if it's about the kids they wouldn't play in a NFL or College Stadium that has small goal post either.
I do think the kids would prefer to play in a stadium that looks packed like WV has than a stadium that looks like nobody is there. Wheeling Island feels awesome for the Finals.

Definitely agree about the goal posts! Those goal posts had a hand in Westminster's loss to Gwynn Park in the state finals a few years back.

I always thought it felt odd sitting in a 90% empty stadium. I do agree that Towson or Morgan would be the perfect size. While it is nice to be in a NFL stadium, or even a nice college stadium, I am sure that the kids could care less where it's played. They are playing for a State Championship and they would play it on a high school field somewhere if they had to.

I talked to some kids that played at M&T Bank and that was the highlight of there State Championship trip. They didnt mention anything about how empty it looked. They talked about how cool it was to play on the same field as some of their favorite players.

There was a second exit open. If you are walking out of the stadium it was in the far left corner. Make a right out of the parking lot. Then a right at the next street and a left at the light. That puts you back on the main drag headed out of town.
