Thomas Johnson forfeits this weeks game

WOW, Once a Great Program...
Still confused about what the big deal about 9 players going both ways is about.
Some Teams have 40-50 Players and still only play about 15-16 kids

I wonder if the elimination of the ELA program about 2 years ago being solely placed at Frederick High and now spread throughout the schools is one of the various factors for decline in football numbers at TJ, specifically, given it’s close proximity to Frederick High? Could it be that some families moved their kids to other schools and the numbers were replaced with ELA students who have little or no interest in American football? On top of the little or no interest in football, Frederick County, with the change to the ELA program, from what I was told, spread the gang problems associated with the ELA program to other schools that were once primarily contained at Frederick High.

Anyone from Frederick have input on this? Some of my information is anecdotal source information directly from law enforcement, without actual numbers provided.

Fact of the matter is too many people got other stuff going on and football is secondary in lives. Might be the problems ya'll be mentioning an not saying football isn't popular but in areas near Charm City an the Cap people are involved in other things. Other sports are getting more participation too and Im hearing a general consensus numbers on teams are down other places across Maryland. Maybe it has to do with youth levels an lack of feeder programs like article says but maybe with the physicality kids are tired of that hittin. Other options to focus with since most ain't with that grind or thirsty for it.

I was thinking the same thing. They used to be a serious program!!

I remember a few years ago when FH beat TJ. There were TJ fans in this group leading up to the game saying how good TJ was and FH would not beat them. They had support

What year was this? I don't remember them playing in WMD recently.

Evidently their program has been struggling, in the last two years their record is 1-21

After thinking about it, it may have been more than “a few years” lol. Thomas Johnson had a strong team and they had fans posting on here how Fort Hill didn’t have a chance. FH went there and won

Pretty crazy.. friends of ours had a son who played for TJ like 6 years ago maybe. Their FB graduated and played at Towson. We went with them to The Bank when TJ played in the state title game that year. They must've really fallen off since then.

At that time there was a lot of fun “trash talking” on here and at times posters would come from opposing teams and join in on the trash talking, but it was all about football. I don’t remember the political debates, etc. as we have now. Was there a moderator? For some reason I remember someone in charge of the group who would kick ppl out.

TJ lost many students due to redistricting. There is a large community in Frederick County called Spring Ridge that used to be in TJ's school district. The Spring Ridge students were redistricted to Oakdale when the new high school opened. Many of the Spring Ridge students have been and currently are key contributors on the highly successful Oakdale teams. In addition, the feeder football program that TJ had for years folded around the same time that TJ lost students to Oakdale. Furthermore, TJ's long time football coach Ben Wright left TJ around this same time period.

I believe if TJ can start a feeder football program back up this would help their high school program immensely. They have some athletes! Most of the high schools in Frederick County have their own feeder programs playing in the Mountain Valley Football League. The kids start playing flag football as early as 5 years old for their districted high school teams The MVFL is a very competitive youth football league and most of the older teams run the high schools offenses and defenses. Many of the high school coaches are somewhat involved with the feeder programs. This is the reason Frederick County football is so good. Many of the kids have been playing together since they have been 5 years old.

Hopefully, TJ will have enough players available for Week 3 to play Oakdale at the Varsity high school level.

Yeah, Dave used to be the moderator. Any off topic comments, personal attacks, etc. would be deleted and eventually get you kicked out. He was my editor when I wrote the game articles for this site, at the time it was MD High, I think. He's a really talented sportswriter. He went on to cover Univ. Maryland football and he still does a great job at it. After he left the board was unmoderated and the craziness started.

TJ has more issues than just football. Two students last night apparently murdered a man at a county fair in a “knock out” game.

The latest I heard was they are not being charged with murder. I guess as long as it was 'a game' to them - in a grievance sort of world - then assault is all it will be. They'll be free with a clean record and some street cred.

Unfortunately, to some degree you are correct. I deal with this on a daily basis at my job.
