see you next week... oh wait!

Must be a 15 year old! Please don't judge all on the actions of some misguided few...

Game went down to the wire. Allegany has a young team and I bet next year they'll give FH a run for the money!

Allegany could have all the talent in the world, but Preakorn and Co. could figure out a way to ruin it. Alco deserves better than what they are getting right now. I thought Alco would win tonight, but I told y'all No. Carroll was a scrappy team that knew how to win games. Congrats Alco on a nice season and hope next year you have a coach worthy of your proud tradition. Nice game for a few Alco underclassmen and hopefully a preview of next year!! Great game for Tyler Eirich only a week removed from a bad sprain.

I agree thats why this playoff loss does'nt really bother me.. I feel bad for my nephew who is a starter for Alco on both sides of the ball. He is a sophmore so there is more football to come for him. I really feel bad for Alco's seniors who never even got to experience a playoff win after Korn failed them back 2 back yrs... FH has the coaching and the players to get the job done again this yr.. and I will be rooting for my hometown enemy lol...

My thoughts exactly FortHillFan89, funny how it's ok to dish it out but classless when the other guy does it.

How about one kan the corn for old time sake.....

Had FH lost to a team they were predicted to dominate, all we would hear from Blue is FH choked again. Hmm. I'm not insinuating Blue choked. I am saying the digs hurt when the wound is fresh. Especially for the kids.

Given the circumstances I wouldn't say blue choked... They were a fourth seed. Again hats off to Alco for a complete effort!

I was just as tempted to make a post similar to the little homecoming post, but it was just THAT... Temptation to be a d*^k back... However I feel FH fans should better represent themselves.

I am not saying they choked. It's not my place and not my intent. It's a blue card they like to play.

My post regarding the comparison was tactful and a reminder that we should just be nice.

My basketball comment was legit. Alco is the head honcho in basketball. It is a basketball school. Their football days have been over for a long time

We have no vid to review and only NC had fans at the game, so getting a variety of reports is impossible. I only got about 10 minutes on radio because once I heard about the injuries I figured it was going to be a different game.

Allegany drove the field and was close enough to easily score at least 2 more touchdowns. I'm sorry, but I will assess that to play calling not a stout defense. I am also going to guess that Korn played a defense not to give up the big play at the end and ended up giving up a bunch of short passes all the way down the field. Thanks Korn - but the pros do the same dumb frickin' thing too.

Once again, I have a penchant for dumping it on Korn. But you see, the way Allegany drove down the field early in the game does indicate they had the horses to win - with two more starters it could have been the game we projected. I refuse to believe that NC had the ability to adjust defensively to Alco's ground game. And, if Allegany were easily passed on they would have been passed on for four quarters and constantly trailed.

So, injuries on starters (critical in 1A) along with some untimely play calling by Korn did them in. It happens. But it does spare Allegany a worse beating by FH - in that they were obviously banged up.

As an Alco grad we get over it - or we don't get over it.

It certainly wasn't stout defense that stopped the Campers from scoring. I believe Allegany had 20 rushing first downs during the game.

In reality, when one looks at MD basketball records during the early days this question has to be asked: How many schools outside of Allegany County actually played basketball? The reason I bring up the question is because between 1927 - 1954, Allegany County schools won a total of 25 state championships.

Allegany led the way with 11; Penn Avenue/Fort Hill had 7; Bruce had 4; Central Lonaconing had 2; and Beall had one. (There is also a school by the name of "Barton" that had 3 state championships. I don't know if it was the "Barton" located in Allegany County.)

A major historical event occurred in 1954 that potentially changed everything - Brown vs. the Board of Education - otherwise, known as the desegregation in public schools. When you couple this landmark decision with Allegany County's declining population over the years, well...you can see the results that follow.

Since 1955, Allegany County schools have won a total of 9 state championships in basketball, and Valley High School can lay claim to five of those ('56, '57 '59, '79, '81). Allegany has two ('63, '93). Bruce has one ('61), and Mount Savage has one '67).

In closing, Allegany High School is currently the best basketball program in Allegany County, but as FHHSAHS stated, they have only won one state championship in the past 50 years, and that was 21 years ago.

One final note...I'm glad FH is not playing Allegany next week. Why? Too many unknowns when the two play each other. I know this is an oxymoron, but the unknowns seem to have the potential to occur because both teams know each other so well.

We heard two words a lot this week. "Second chance" Even Korn mentioned it in the article after Homecoming. I thought that was a little puzzling for him to do so. You concern yourself with that second chance when you get to it. Allegany is a very young team. Those two words I'm sure went over and over in their minds during the week. Well, you only get one chance at a "second chance". "Many of the Allegany players had a look of disbelief as the teams lined up to shake hands." was a quote from the Carroll County Times. You wonder how much the coaching staff did in defusing those two words.

How about FH in 1958? If my memory is still good - Jerry Meeks at 6' 2" at center, the tallest player in the city.
