So coming to the end of the season , some things are becoming evident. FH once again the Big Dog in the yard, with ALCO, Southern and Northern still in the mix. Right now it looks like Catoctin has the #4 spot. So, anyone think Northern or even more so Southern has a chance to beat ALCO in Greenway in the next 2 weeks? Just curious the thoughts out there on something other than scheduling.

Northern can't afford another loss. If they sweep Southern and Alco they will be in the playoffs with the amount of points they would pickup with those wins. At this point, I would say the complete opposite will happen, Northern will get swept by those two. The Huskies have always played everyone in this area tough. No matter the kind of team they have. So I would not be shocked if they pulled off one of those two games.

I think the Allegany/Southern game is going to be very interesting. Allegany has struggled stopping the run and on defense overall all year. Their offense has carried them a lot this year. Southern's offensive line has some size and they have seemed to get on a roll offensively. With the game being in Cumberland and Allegany getting better each of the past couple weeks I think they get the win but not be at all if the Rams pull of the shocker.

Catoctin has a pretty good schedule the rest of the way. I don't see them losing at all. Unless they play a stinker. That is why I think Northern will be out.

With that being said, the region will be Fort Hill's to lose, no one is within two touchdowns of them.

The Southern-Allegany game will be a true measuring stick to see how far Southern has come back. Will Allegany be caught looking ahead to homecoming?
I think the last part of that is very interesting. Will Alco look ahead to Fort Hill? Would not be smart to do so. Alco stands to gain a lot of points over the next two weeks.

This is my prediction.

1A WEST
1. FH
2. Alco
3. Southern
4. Catoctin (maybe FSK if the beat Liberty)

1A SEMIFINALS
1. FH
2. Havre de Grace
3. Dunbar
4. Frederick Douglass

Southern /Alco game should be between 8-1 teams if everything holds true so will probably be a game for home field in the first round of the playoffs as I assume those 2 teams will end up 2 and 3. That is unless Northern stirs the pot. At least it makes the last couple of games for those 3 teams interesting. Southern does have an uphill battle with both those games being away. Northern is home for both so that adds to the mix

If Havre de Grace wins out, they will be the #1 seed.
Their final three games are; C.Milton Wright (3A-5 wins) that's this Thursday btw, Edgewood (3A-4 wins) and North Hartford (2A- 3 wins)

Ok.. playing devils advocate... if ALCO loses to either Northern or Southern, they probably end season 7-3...Do they still get in since 3rd loss would be to #1 seed?

I think they could look ahead and it wouldn't matter. Southern and Northern are not on Alco's level. That's not a criticism of either team, and I respect they have the balls to play Alco, but history says when they play a cumberland school it is not going to turn out well.

Just my two cents, but as long as Alco wins one of their last three, they're in. Southern and Northern may be playing for a playoff spot on week 10, winner is in. Catoctin looks to have a grip on the fourth spot and they have a very easy ride the rest of the way. Boonsboro also has a shot. The team that might be the dark horse here may be FSK. They have a tougher "row to hoe", but they can take that spot away from Catoctin.

That is very true .. recent history has not been kind to either team versus both FH and ALCO. And while I realize it often does not convey to varsity, at least in Southern's case, their roster is dominated by a junior class that won the CAYFL and went undefeated as freshman/jv in 2015 playing both FH and ALCO. I think Southern has the linemen to equal ALCO. Northern has a few good skill position players, just not the line to hang with ALCO or stop their run game. Again, not saying one success conveys to the next, but it may make the Southern/ALCO game a little closer than most people think. Northern has ALCO in Accident so who knows ???Can't chalk up a Southern or Northern win to just ALCO looking past them.

I (being partial) think Southern will be the 3 and Northern will be out. Southern can beat Allegany, but will have to play a perfect game on both sides of the ball. Game 10 of the regular season is finally going to mean something to both Garrett County Schools, and for that we are all thankful! Southern has come a long way, and I am very interested to see how they handle playing Allegany at the stadium. It will be a good measuring stick. Are they at the Fort Hill level? I will just say, not yet, but great things are happening and the culture up here on the mountain is changing, shall I say reminiscent to late 80's and early/mid 90's!!! Now as for Southern/Northern, who knows, you can usually throw records out the window, as of late Northern has had the upper hand, but to quote Lee Corso, "not so fast my friend!" I think Southern will be a handful for Northern, who will be fighting for their playoff lives with losing to MR, probably Alco, maybe Smithsburg, and Southern. They have a tough stretch and anything can happen. Good luck to all the teams from Western Maryland!

If Southern gives Allegany a game, will it be because Southern has risen from the bottom or has Allegany just fell through the floor. Allegany wins BIG.

Well, looking at their common opponent, Mt Ridge, I would say once again that Northern will struggle with ALCO. They have nice skill position players but just not the horses up front to match up with ALCO both offensively and defensively.
Southern and ALCO have had no common opponents this year. Alco's loss to a tough Chestnut Ridge team that passes well is similar to Southern's loss to a passing East Hardy team that will most likely be the #1 seed in WV 1A going into the playoffs. Both ALCO and Southern like to keep the ball on the ground. Often it is the matchup that makes for a good game. I give the nod to Alco's offense but Southern's defense has been very stingy against the run this year. Whatever the outcome, I see this game as being 8 points or less difference with a probable rematch of both teams 2 weeks later.
