Honestly, I was thinking this exact same thing a week ago following the MR blowout of Hampshire, and this past week just made it even more clear.

The shrinking of the population has really highlighted the separation of talent. It's so much more extreme than it used to be. It's like women's NCAA basketball. The top 3-4 schools are leaps and bounds above anybody else. Someone was saying last year that the men's tournament would have to go to 250 some schools to get the level of disparity between a No. 1 seed and the last team in that the women's side experiences in a 64 team field. That's what as happened to local football here.

Yep. I can remember when BW, Alco, FH and Beall all had very good football teams at the same time and I am not discounting the other area schools either.

I believe the Allegany/Keyser game will tell you

Games that involve Allegany for the rest of the season will make this picture even more clearer. Their games against Keyser, Southern and Northern will provide clarity.

Right now it looks like this... at least for me:

Level One - Fort Hill
Level Two - Allegany
Level Three - Keyser
Level Four - East Hardy, Southern, Northern
Level Five - Mountain Ridge
Level Six - Hampshire, Frankfort
Level Seven - Moorefield

Those above mentioned games will help clear up level two through four. You could argue that East Hardy belongs on a level by them selves after beating Southern in Oakland. I will await the Northern/Southern game to decide fully. Once the season plays out it could very well end up with level #1 through #10 with very one team on each level and pretty big gaps between each level. Biggest gaps right now have to be between level one and level two. And again between level five and six.

My thoughts right now
1.) Fort Hill (And it isn't close right now)
2.) Allegany (If they get their defense fixed they could challenge Fort Hill)
3.) Keyser (Might give Alco a game but I believe the Campers are better)
4.) Northern (Hard to tell how for real they are cause of their schedule, we will know by months end)
5.) East Hardy (Would of been nice to see a NHS/EH game but they don't play each other)
6.) Southern (I told everyone when I saw them in their scrimmage at MR, nice year for Rams)
7.) Mountain Ridge (Nice bounce back last two weeks, Next two weeks will show if they are 1st three week team or last two week team)
8.) Hampshire (Held in tough against Keyser early, will probably defeat Frankfort)
9.) Frankfort (Pretty down year for the Falcons again, surprised by margin of defeat against MR)
10.) Moorefield (Long year for the yellow jackets)
