What have you been doing as of late with off-season workouts?
“I work throughout the year, but in the off-season, I can get in more training and weight room time. I’m still in the weight room working on getting stronger and explosive and on the field focusing on things like exploding off the line, getting in and out breaks, route running, speed, ball handling, and game speed catches. Also, I am studying film and just trying to become a better athlete.”
What do you feel you have improved on most since last football season?
“Probably speed and being a versatile receiver.”
What are you trying to improve on before the football season begins?
“Being a complete athlete on both sides of the ball, including becoming a punt and/or kick returner.”
How has Covid-19 factored into your workouts?
“It’s been different, but it hasn’t stopped my work. Before COVID-19 I was preparing for track season and football, but then school closed. I’m not able to work out with my trainers and get on the field and in the gym like I’m used to, but I’m adjusting. I miss working out with the team and at my gym and competing with my guys, but I try to get in 2-3 different workouts a day in between my school work. My workouts change, but they always include running, ball drills, and weights. Thankfully, my mom has turned part of our basement into a space with my workout equipment, and I go outside in my backyard to do the rest or run in my neighborhood. I don’t have all the equipment I’m used to but I’m making it work.”
How do you feel your team will do this football season?
“I’m expecting for us to do great. We will have a new head coach so I know that it will be an adjustment for all of us at first, but as long as we show up every day, do more than expected, play as a team and be coachable, I think we have what it takes to not only compete but win.”
Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“North Point.”
Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against this fall?
“That’s hard. Contrary to what some people think about the SMAC, we have some great players.”
Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes, I’m preparing to play football in college. It’s always been my goal to play at least one sport in college and that’s going to be football.”
What colleges have been recruiting you?
“As a sophomore, colleges coaches can’t really communicate with us until we are technically juniors, but they can send us questionnaires and camp information. I’ve received both from a few colleges and was planning to attend some of those camps this summer. For us in the class of 2022 this was going to be our summer to get our names out there, but COVID-19 changed everything. Right now, with everything on hold or canceled, I’m contacting coaches and looking forward to being able to get my recruitment going, so my recruitment is 100% open.”
Have you made any college trips yet?
“I’ve done some unofficial visits to some colleges to tour the campuses, attend spring practices or camp such as Old Dominion University, Penn State University, Georgetown University, Howard University, and North Carolina A&T State University.”
Do you have plans for more trips soon?
“Before COVID-19 we were planning out my Spring Break and Summer college trips. I’m trying to remain positive and hope that everything gets back to normal before the summer is over. But just in case, I’ve done some virtual tours and have some others coming up. It’s hard to get a good vibe virtually but I’ve got to do what I can for now.”
What camps are you planning to do this summer?
“Before everything was shut down, I was narrowing down college camps for the summer. I was also planning to do the Rivals Combine along with some showcases. Not everyone has canceled their events, but things change every day, so I’m just staying ready for now.”
Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Oregon and Kentucky have probably been my favorites the longest along with USC and Clemson. As a young kid, Oregon’s colors and uniforms were what got me. They have the best and most different uniforms and those that know me know I’ve always liked crazy colors and different styles.”
