What was your first reaction when the football season was moved?
“At first, I was very at peace with it because I'm a very brutally honest person so I knew it wasn't viable or practical for us to have a season.”
How do you feel about the decision as of today?
“I think it was very responsible so that people can plan and respond accordingly and not raise hope. Too much liability. Kids could die.”
What are your sporting and workout plans now?
“I work out 5 to 6 times a week and record it. I play basketball to stay in shape as well. I'm training as if we were playing in fall.”
How do you feel your team will do this football season?
“I feel we will repeat as champions because this team is very young like the 2018 team my brother led. A lot of our freshmen and sophomores were able to participate and get title experience, so they know what it takes. We lost a lot of seniors, but we still have firepower and a strong senior class and guys with a lot to prove and a new staff.”
Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“QO. The rest of the schedule is cupcakes. But with QO, there is that mutual respect and they have and always will be a perennial contender so credit their coaching staff gives us a look at a team we will have to beat to win the 3A. They've kind of replaced Seneca as a rival as they've fallen off in recent years.”
Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against this fall?
“Chop from QO. Last year I would say Quez because he's so hard to tackle and behind a great line. Chop is a great player who I grew up playing with and is a big factor in any game. He plays 1 way so he's always fresh and will attack you all game. I went to the Wooton game last year since we didn't have a game and I think he blocked 3 punts in a row unscathed. Dude can ball.”
Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Football definitely, and maybe track.”
What colleges have been recruiting you?
“My nine offers are from Davidson, Long Island, Harvard, Georgetown, Fordham, Morgan State, Yale, Navy, and UPenn.”
Do you have plans for game day trips this fall?
“None are planned. I doubt they will be allowed with the dead period extending, but if I could, I would like to go to some of these schools game and get that experience and atmosphere.”
What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“Harvard, Yale and Morgan State are usually the most persistent, but most of these offers have been acquired in the past week so it’s hard to say. I’ll say Harvard since they have been around the longest, but Morgan wants me to be a special player for them.”
Have you made any college trips yet?
“No, not for me, but when my brother was getting recruited, I was able to see a lot of these high FCS, Wake Forest, CAA, and ODU.”
Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“I had a deep admiration of Alabama.”
