The proposed classification for the next two years came out today. The only change in the 1A West is that Boonsboro has come back down from 2A. It is interesting that Douglas of Baltimore is now going to be a 3A. They totally skipped the 2A class! Mountain Ridge will remain a 2A team. Sorry for their luck, not that it matters much in football.

Anyway, I'm sure that I've overlooked some interesting moves Statewide so go to the MPSSAA website and check out the proposed classes.

I mentioned a little while back Douglass would probably go right to 3A! I love it! They have NO shot at a title now! Love to see them face a legit team and get crushed! Cheating gets you nowhere

Did I miss something about Douglass cheating? What, how, when?

Could be wrong I think they are referring to douglas getting players or fh ppl call "recruiting" as dunbar

Unless Baltimore changed policy there are no school districts. I had juveniles tell me they could pick a school they wanted to go as long as it wasn't a charter school. I would assume that a parent would just have to go to the school of choice and enroll the kid. I imagine it has to be chaos managing population. I can only imagine that some of those schools fluctuate extremely from year to year. There is no more cheating in Baltimore than anywhere else if recruiting is considered cheating. County school boards control their own districting policy. The City is it's own county in all respects and it does not prohibit school jumping. Is that fair, maybe not, but to call it cheating is far reaching. How many kids have you know in Allegany County to use a grandparents address or pick a divorced parent's home as their address to stay on a specific school. That equates to lost money and resources going to the school in the district where the kid actually resides.

I think what he was referring to was that Douglas made a great effort to schedule teams that they knew they could beat. What they wanted was to out point the 1A West winner and not make the trip to Cumberland. This didn't sit well with several coaches in the Baltimore area. While we argue about this all the time up here, you really can't blame them or anyone else for putting their kids in a position to get into the playoffs. They may be taking advantage of the system but they aren't cheating.

I'm also on the same boat as far as what schools kids attend. The State shouldn't tell me where my children should attend school. Of course, if I elect to send him to an our of district school, it's up to me, as a parent to get him there. ( on a side note, there was a discussion on the Baltimore board about Franklin, and they were happy to announce that Franklin had fewer than ten out of district kids on their team. It was funny, up here we get upset with one!)
