Sooooo...as expected, it turns out the MPSSAA made excessively noticeable monies from the football state playoffs. They needed it bad after not collecting any playoff income the previous year due to COVID. Splitting football in 6 classifications while selling tickets online only through the MPSSAA paid off. The MPSSAA also made out pretty good on broadcast income and NFHS kick back.

With that said, I'm getting that the MPSSAA might not be moving back to 4 classifications next year. Don't be surprised if they shift to 5 classes. At least that is the scuttlebutt I got this past weekend.

Like in college, it's football and men's basketball that feeds the bulldog. Without those sports the other sports would be in dire straights.

How would the classifications be broken down?

Would they take the number of schools with football programs and rank the schools based on enrollment and divide by four or five?

That's how they do it for the other sports so I would imagine they would do the same for football. I'm good with 5 classes, just not 6. The size of our state doesn't warrant 6 classes. But please just name them 1A-5A, the 1A-2A and 3A-4A just sounded ridiculous.

If that is the case, each of the five classifications will have either 36 or 37 teams.

For 1A, FH, AHS, and MRHS are locks. Dunbar, Williamsport, and South Carroll would be on the bubble between 1A and 2A, but seem to be leaning more towards 2A.

Yes, dividing classes is always the same in MD. Take the total number of teams and divide by 4 or 5 or 6. Every sport is different depending on the number of teams.

There are 182 MPSSAA football teams. That would make roughly 36 teams in each class.

No matter how the classifications work out, it's guaranteed OneRIng will complain about Fort Hill for something. 5 classifications would be good.

Nah, didn't miss anything. From the non-existent views on YouTube it looks like plenty of other people missed it, though.😂🤣😅

Still praying to avoid Dunbar. Nothing changes.
I just hope Dunbar is good enough to make it to the championship game to play fort Hill. Unfortunately they lost to Douglas Fort Hill crushed them

Would Dunbar and some of the other teams that were moved up to 1-2a be moving back down or staying the same
As of now, if there are five classifications Dunbar would be in the division above 1A - whatever it will be called.

The Poets would be one of the five smallest schools in that classification.

If there are four classifications, Dunbar would most likely be 1A. If so, Dunbar will be one of the largest schools in 1A.

All three Allegany County schools would be locks in 1A.

More than anything, my hope is the top 16 teams are seeded and forget the regional BS.

Yeah I really wish they would just moved to a
1-16 bracket as well

Regions will never be removed, ever. That has been made clear since the playoffs started in 1974.

Lol, no, it's the first word out of yourself and One Ring since you have to live vicariously through another school since yours is no longer relevant.

WOW for 3 Grades FH has 495 & Alco has 573= 1068 students so all 4 grades if they were to consolidate would be just over 1300 Students in the Building. I still don't understand why they haven't Consolidated these schools yet
Better yet to ask Hancock and Clear Spring.

Both schools were that big at one point, but now for some reason having even one is considered diabolical on a Hitler scale.
