"Of course, in 1A, there's Fort Hill and Allegany, who have recently been one of the top, if not the best teams in Class 1A. In 2A? The Fort Hills and Allegany's are almost a dime a dozen"...... Is this guy nuts say this or is it just me. If Memory serves me correctly they have always played mostly 1A teams and still wouldn't make the 1 A playoffs.

I don't see what is wrong with the quote. Sounds to me he is saying FH and Allegany are 2 of the best in 1A

From where did you get this quote? To me it sounds like he is saying that Allegany and Fort Hill have been the class of 1A and that it wasn't like that when they were in 2A. Which is true, the 2A West had a couple good team's each year, ex... Walkersville, but that they are few and far between in their region when they were in 2A.

It was in the insert from the paper. He may be saying they are the two best teams in 1A, but come on a dime a dozen in 2A. I think FH and Alco can and could have done very well in 2A. I bet you coach Hansel and coach Appel would take it as insult

Oh, I took it as saying there aren't teams in 2A that dominate like FH/Allegany do in 1A.

If you look closely at the article it isn't Patterson who is saying that quote you referenced. It was the person who was writing the article. You can tell that by seeing where the quotations are in the article. The quote from Patterson was about how he went down state to watch Oakland Mills and Marriotts Ridge play (who were in his region at the time) and how they looked like college team's playing. And how much harder it was to get in the playoffs each year in the 2A West.

Think it was just a way to remind people Mountain Ridge still has a football team.

Whomever the quote is attributed to is trying to imply that while FH and Alco are the cream of the crop in 1A, in 2A there's tons of other teams of that caliber. It's NOT complimentary.

While I do agree there are more teams in 2A of that caliber, a dime a dozen implies they are widespread. And that's just not accurate.

It's not complimentary, and I agree "a dime a dozen" is an exaggeration, but this is the same thing I've been saying. If you talk to the actual coaches and scouts they will all tell you this.

Dunbar would have gone deep into the 2A playoffs this year, maybe win it. One should never expect respect from people that would never give it to you anyway.
My "what a joke" comment was originated at the person who started this post accusing a coach of saying something that he didn't. When they were called out on it they disappeared as opposed to just correcting their mistake.

happens all the time here

I'm still laughing at the new screen name that popped up for 2 days saying I was a WCBC employee and then disappeared forever when they realized they were wrong.

No one disappeared, you read it your way I read it mine

I think it's good Mt. Ridge got a little Western MD Varsity Time on here. It's usually all FH or Alco, got some debate and all....good stuff..so this is good.

Where do you guys get this stuff from? Lol - Dunbar isn't ranked on any of the polls this year, even the Baltimore Sun's. And they haven't won any championships since they moved to 2A. As they found out, 2A is a big leap from 1A.

Moving up in class is obviously more difficult. I have been saying this for years that Alco has more state titles because they competed in a lower class from 1974 to 2001. Dah! I dont want to take away from those Alco titles anymore than I would with what FH is doing now. But don't compare the title numbers if in a different class. Especially when the head to head is 57-32-4 in favor of FH.

If FH played in Alco's class they would easily have won titles in 1987, 1988, 1994 and 1998 and probably had a chance in other years. It is what it is.

FH won a 3A title. It's far more difficult than anything Alco or FH has done since.

If you are the size of the schools in the class, it shouldn't be harder. Can't compare a 1A school to a different class.

Allegany beat Fort Hill in 1988 and Allegany was 2A in 94, same as Fort Hill. Allegany won six titles at 2A. Fort Hill only managed one.

Your argument doesn't really hold water.
