This post is meant to be an unbiased view of local football programs in their current state. I hope it brings about good, open conversation without personal attacks on each other and everyone's varying opinions.

Fort Hill- Pretty much what a strong high school football program is about. Tradition, pride and a community that supports the program combined with hard work, excellent coaching and deep talent. Unfortunately for them no other program in the area is close to their level at this point.

Allegany- Until the last year or so one of the better small school programs in Maryland. I hope they can turn it around and unlike many I am not going to point to coaching as their problem. Declining enrollment and Fort Hill's success has effected their program.

Mountain Ridge- They seem to have the bodies and athleticism but have always struggled with inconsistency. At times they can impress and other times they stumble when least expected.

Northern- I feel as though Coach Carr does more with less than almost any other program in the area. Northern lacks numbers but his teams are always well coached and play hard, especially at home.

Southern- At one time these guys had a great program and tradition but through a constant change in coaches they lost their way for awhile. Last years team showed glimpses of the some of the excellent teams of the past. It will be interesting to see if they can be consistent from this point on.

Keyser- In my opinion Coach Biser does a great job. His teams are well coached, physical and next to Fort Hill probably the next strongest program in the area.

Frankfort- I also think Coach Whiteman does a great job too. He gets the most out of the players he has to draw from and his players play hard for him.

Hampshire- This is a tough place to build a program. The large geographic area the school draws from makes it tough for players to participate in many of the things that make a football program successful. When they are clicking they can be a good team but lack of depth (due to the above factors) tends wears on them as the season progresses.

I am not a writer so forgive any errors in my post. I hope everyone enjoys the upcoming season and I wish the best to all of our area schools.

I think your read on the local HS was excellent and on point. As far as Hampshire goes, didn't the opening of Spring Mills High School take some of their possible kids as well? I may be wrong but I was thinking that was the case.
You mentioned coaches Whiteman and Carr. I too agree that they are both very good coaches. While FH has the numbers to find or create the players that fit in their system, the thing that these two great is that they adjust their system to fit the kids they have that year. They will run when they have runners, pass when they have passers and receivers, all the while playing the defense that best compliments their talent. The ability to adjust is what makes a great high school coach in my humble opinion.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I don't think Hampshire lost any players to Spring Mills, just too far and in another county. The former coach from east Hardy will begin his second year at Spring Mills this year. He did an excellent job at EH so it will be interesting to see what he does at SM.
