Just asking?

1) How Mt. Ridge reserves feel about about NOT getting in the game at 51-25 ?
2) Did Mt. Ridge coach get the QB stats where they wanted them?
3) What is the rational thinking of an onside kick with 3 seconds remaining and score 51-31?
Just asking if anyone else saw these peculiarities? Hum!

America has become hypocritically sensitive in all aspects of life...sports is no exception. Too many times I watch coaches/fans cry about the other team running up the score when I'm a believer that it's not the other team's job to keep the score down. At the same time, when the score is well in hand and the winning team has their subs in why does the losing team not have their subs in to get some playing time? Whatever either way.

But I was surprised at some people's response to the illegal man downfield call that negated a MR touchdown right before the half. Of course that call was open to interpretation pretty much like most officiating calls. The reason MR got down to the goal line right before the first half ended was due to two questionable officiating calls on FH...a roughing the QB and defensive holding, which moved the ball 25 yards (I thought the roughing the passer call was really bad). So not sure why Coach Patterson would call out to the press the illegal man down field that negated their touchdown as the first half ended. The only reason MR was in that position in the first place was due to referee interpretations.

At times the officiating crew in this game had some questionable moments but I thought they were balanced with it and had no bearing on the outcome.

Interesting questions. Keeping the starting QB in and pushing for the score with the FH reserves in, down by a ton, was just silly. Hopefully a learning experience for the coach if he gets back down there again.

Although how cool was it that FH got to take a knee on the last play of the game with 3 seconds left. A meaningful number for these kids.

I've had several MR fans come at me with the "bad officiating" comments. Mostly people who really don't understand the game. I shrug them off.

The roughing call on FH was TOTALLY bogus. Watched a replay of that this morning and Snyder was hit as he was throwing the ball.

As for keeping the starters in, reminded me of the Alco-Dunbar game when Dunbar was well ahead in the 4th and even they were subbing, but Allegany chose to leave their starters in. That game was at Ravens stadium. How about letting the kids who have worked just as hard get a few snaps so they can say one day "I played in an NFL Stadium!"

In the end no one cares. It’s almost always wins and loses that are remembered

Anyone complaining about the refs should consider the blatant offensive PI by Mtn Rdg on the first TD pass. A receiver blocked his defender from the LOS to the the 1 yd,- total of 6 yards. It was a blatant pick play that spring open the other receiver. Also, on one of MR’s drives there was a bogus out-of-bounds late hit on FH on the MR sideline. The calls were bad both ways at points with MR maybe even coming out favorable with calls or missed calls that benefited them.

it’s obvious the coach was letting Bryce finish his career out. Some interpret it as padding stats. Who knows? I will say that the on sides kick shows that they’ve never been there. Now they have and we can expect for him next time to show some decorum. It was bush league for sure

i’ve never been a coach so maybe this was the wrong thought process. I figured he was just showing his players that you try to win until the very last second

Mountain Ridge coach showed he wasn’t going quit and they weren’t quitting. Some ppl say quit and play substitutes, some philosophies are show the kids we aren’t quitting

Quitting is one thing, but when you’re down 4 td with 1:00 to go reward the kids that busted it for you all year by letting them play on a college field. I could see if you were down 2 scores but 4…. Na, Patterson was trying to make it look as good as he could. When your opponent punts once, when your opponent averages 10 ypc and when your opponent is beating you by 4 td, 1 measly garbage TD is not going to prove anything other than it shows your inexperience.

It would be nice to apply that formula both ways. Had FH kept their starters in at the end while in the red zone they score to go up 58-25 instead of turning the ball over on downs with subs. But that is considered classless as opposed to never quitting. I get it, the losing team deserves sympathy. The other side is to this discussion...it's nice to have all your kids get reps in a state championship setting. The game was over at that point. If proving you never quit against the other teams bench works, so be it.

Either way. I don't care about hurting other people's feelings with scores late. But that's me.

This is what 3/4 of FH fans on here would have said had the roles been reversed.

Fort Hill made the decision to pull their starters and not score again. Yes, it shows the class that their coach and program have no doubt. Would some Mountain Ridge fans have been upset if they did do that? Yes. Would they be right? I don't believe there is a right and wrong in that situation. You are going to offend someone no matter what you decide. You have to decide what your philosophy is in those situations as a coach and go with it. Forget what anyone else thinks.

I have no problem with Coach Patterson choosing to let the players that got them to Annapolis finish the game. I also understand the idea of getting everyone a chance to play in a State Championship game when a game is that far out of hand. Would I go for an onsides kick with less than 10 seconds left, down three scores? No. But I don't fault Coach Patterson for deciding to do it.
